1. Read the bulletin board. Often times promoters will list an email address. If you contact them they will put you on the list. Sometimes being on a list like this will get you past the line and save you $5. Other times it will leave you wet, cold, and frustrated outside. I usually put myself on multiple lists to avoid the line if I really want to see the dj. You can also go to http://www.twilo.com and register for their email list. They will send you two weekly updates. You can usually call them to get placed on the house guest list . It does not work for the last Friday of the month (sasha & digweed). I would care if their music still sounded like Northern Exposure North/South. But alas it does not. Good luck! ------------------
2. I work for an B2B solutions internet company. I can usually wear what I want as long as it isn't black skin tight vinyl with nipple clamps. The assless chaps don't really work either. Sometimes I wear a suit when I meet with Clients or go to conferences. I don't mind it, pimpin' is oftentimes nice. Everyone at work knows I club but I do not care. I am what I am. The people I work with are young, fun, and enthusiastic. Most like to party. Pretty cool most times. I use the job for the $ and the experience. I will move on when the challenge is gone or boredom sets in, whichever comes first. ------------------
3. The music....and always the music. I have to agree with you, tgoodnight. You hit it on the head. You described the perfect club scene. I like your style. ------------------
4. You may want to check Astoria or Forest Hills Queens if you do not want to do the Manhattan tip. It is definitely worth it in my opinon. I live in the Upper East side of Manhattan. It is not the best place to go out but it is clean, safe, and as quiet as it gets in Manhattan. I feel like I am in the suburbs of Midtown. I work near union square and it takes me about 1/2 hour to commute. If you want fun, convenience, and a little prestige do Manhattan. You can not imagine how different it is to live amongst the skycrapers unless you have done it. I think everyone should live in NYC once. It is an experience that you can never match. ------------------
5. Check out the Virgin Megastore on 14th st. Also check HMV on 86th and Lex. Speak to Kenny, he knows his shit. ------------------
6. I second those opinions. I would love to hear Nick Warren. I just got turned on to his stuff and it is thick. I am also down with Ferry. The Trance Nation anthology (1,2,3) is great. It would be cool to hear him live and off the hook. Nice call Blue and Wiz. ------------------
7. What the hell is wrong with you? Are you kidding me? What are you talking about? You mention two female dj's and then make a blanket statement. You are Faq'd in the head. Do not be spouting this prejudice shight around me. You closed minded ass. ------------------
8. I know I have mentioned it already but Slipstream by J Scott G is on point. It is a bit different. I have yet to hear a 2cd mix which is on all the way through. There is always one disc which is much better than the other. I need to check out that PVD stuff. ------------------
9. Anything and Everything with a higher level. I mean, the artist's passion has to be palpable. There are just too many groups going through the motions. And of the ones who have it, there are not many that can keep the intensity going for more than a couple albums. So I will list the albums that I have played the most in the past couple years. Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dream Tonic: Lemon Parade Duncan Sheik: Self-titled Dave Matthews: Remember Two Things Refreshments: Fizzy, Fuzzy, Big & Buzzy The Bogmen: Life begins at 40 million Fighting Gravity: Forever=1day Stabbing Westward: Wither Blister Burn + Peel Stone Temple Pilots: Core or Purple Tin Star: Thrill Kisser Vertical Horizon: Everything you want Dishwalla: Pet Your Friends Tool: Aenima NIN: The Downward Spiral Depeche Mode: the last three albums Interesting list. Ear candy for me the past 8 years. ------------------
10. I completely agree. Exit is ok but never a perogative. Everytime I have been there it has been almost all guys. It definitely does not compare to Twilo or Roxy (big dj nights. If George Acosta spins again I will have to give Exit another chance. Gotta love that South Beach sunny trance. ------------------
11. Cool. I will keep an eye out for all these names. I had already known about Tenaglia, Tsettos and Junior. Matt Masella is good. I saw him a True last Wed. night. Intimate crowd but his sounds were deep. ------------------
12. I like Gabby from the New York Trance Authority. Who do you all dig? ------------------
13. If Trance is your passion and you are all about nice drops, check this out, In Trance We Trust vol 3 Lars Holte.....pretty nice. Also check out Slipstream, mixed by J Scott G from Deepsky....a nice American change.
