  1. B2B and Joey... It sounds like you guys agree... Even though I'm a trance fan, from your descriptions, I think I would like deep house better. Even though like Oaky's anthems for what they are. Apart from that, though, the trance I like is the Nubreed type...darker, spacey. I HATE high bpm trance...I call that candy trance...esp. when it has vocals. Reminds me of Aqua etc. Vocals aren't always bad...just how you use'em. Midnight on West 27th is a great example of correct usage. Otherwise, the only time I like really high bpm is in _some_ drum and bass (jungly). Input? ------------------
  2. Lola... Sorry to bust your party peeps, but Lola ain't all that. I met her last June when my company was doing a deal with hers (Bikini.com) at the Licensing 2000 show at the Javits Center. She was pretty rude and abrupt, especially compared to the other girls who were really down to earth. This one Hazen was especially sweet (that's why I even remember her name). Maybe Lola isn't always like this, but she strikes me as the kind who is hot, knows it, and will treat men like shit because of it. ------------------
  3. Hey Mario. If we can't make it to this, where should we look for everybody inside Sound Factory? -Dennis ------------------
  4. Hey, are ya workin' Fri? Mrs. Fields might not be open yet, but we can grab a bite if you have time. Lotsa places round there... AIM or PM me... ------------------
  5. Even though you're going, I'm glad to have gotten to know you and Mike. I know you'll be back soon. Don't worry! And of course, we will visit you too. Some friends and I are planning a Europe trip for the end of Feb, so, perhaps you and M can meet us in Amsterdam... We have each other's emails, so we'll talk! See you Saturday (if I can)... Where/when is the meetup anyways? -Dennis ------------------ [This message has been edited by furnace (edited 01-11-2001).]
  6. OMG that sucks. Last time I lick an envelope. Thanks for the heads up! ------------------
  7. Happy B-day Zoya! Who needs to vote? I think this amount of birhtday wishes proves you are the most popular female on the board... I hope to see y'all Sat. When and where (inside SF) will we be meeting? Hey Luce, you'll miss us and we'll miss you, but I have every confidence that you'll be back soon. -Dennis ------------------
  8. sirdante and all who are weirded out by combinations of music: New sonic ground is always being broken, and people discover new music at their own pace. You said yourself, diversity is cool. So to explain the Samba connection: As I type this post, I'm listening to Fila Brazillia...combination of alot of Latin dance rythms into electronic music. It is INCREDIBLE. For me, music is about capturing a feeling emotion. Trance and house do it one way, and these Latin rythms do it another, more understated, yet sometimes more powereful, way. It's also nice to be able to be taken away by the music, and sink into another culture/time/experience that what you get everyday. Bottom line: electronic samba sounds great. Give it a try. Suggestions: Fila Brazillia Braziletrico (compilation) Jazzanova Mo'Horizons Eighteenth Street Lounge - Jet Society I challenge one and all to take on this music... ------------------

  10. Vampie! Hiya... Everyone here is suggesting Trance...which is cool. But if you want to listen to something other than what you are hearing every weekend, give these cd's a try. 1) Thievery Corporation - DJ Kicks 2) Ian Pooley - Since Then 3) Ming + FS - Hell's Kitchen (if you like hip hop drum'n'bass) I can't explain the first two, you just HAVE to hear them. If you have a fast connect at work, I can send you some mp3's to try... -Furny ------------------
  11. Chasey... As Ooana and Ichi-Gami have re-enforced, my point is simple: Skin on a nightlife guide/mag is a bit misleading as covers go. The content will have to be extra good to get past the creidbility issue. And, from our point of view, having pictures like that will appeal to the wrong type of crowd (both Ichi and I touched on people's expectations). As many fair-weather clubbers there are, vibes are created by people who love the music. People belong to this board because they have a passion for this music. Twilo, Exit, Soundfactory, Vinyl, Limelight, wouldn't be the moneymakers they are without the right music. If you are around long enough, you will realize alot of people here have their ears to the ground and can really feel the pulse of where music is going. ------------------
  12. Me too... Wanna cigarette? ------------------
  13. Yes, we talk about personal stuff, but this guy seems WAAAAYY overboard. Seriously, give us a holler, and we'll come by and stomp his ass for ya. Just say the word. ------------------
  14. Short train ride to Albany area is cool. My roomate is from up there, he knows the area well. Actually, he drives back every weekend to spend the weekend with his girlfriend so you can hitch a ride with him, no train! There's lots of bed breakfast, the horse race track is up there, there are lakes, woods, etc. AIM me for my #, I can give you more details. -Furny ------------------
  15. However... I _definitely_ give Chasey credit for askin' us. You've come to the right place...cuz we shore luv clubbin'! Check yer pm's... ------------------
  16. Right on! Ok I feel stoopid now...you musta posted this while I was still typing mine. Nick Warren has one (not Darren Emerson) ------------------
  17. Dood... "Back To Mine" is a series of cd's where big name dj's were asked to put together a bunch of songs they would listen to themselves, after playing an intense set at a club somewhere. One of my faves is Groove Armada's "Back To Mine"...in fact, listened to it on my way to work this morning. They remix stuff from Tribe Called Quest to Barry White to Al Green... Another good one is Dave Seaman. He's got this AWESOME remix of DM's Useless (shout out to Mario,Jilly, and the DM peeps) by Kruder and Dorfmeister and Sneaker Pimps' Six Underground. Diversity in music is key... ------------------
  18. Hey dood... While I understand how it might be annoying, there is no reason to get violent about it. The guy is actually on this board. Next time you see him, introduce yourself and ask nicely. Don't be a 'roid rage boy. Peace. ------------------
  19. Chasey... I think your mag would get alot more credibility if it featured DJ's and other things on the cover. I like a cutie as much as the next guy, but I buy Maxim etc. for that. There will definitely be a certain percentage of no-neck roid boys (and other variety of meatheads) that WILL judge a book by its cover, expect more skin inside, and throw it away when there isn't. Or,even worse, expect to see women like that lining the walls of various clubs. And when they find out that isn't the case, they will start drunken brawls and shoot people in the middle of the dancefloor ("What Incredible Irony!"-Kyle B.). Thus killing the vibe of any place that might have had one. Ok, I was definitely blue-skying a little there, but you get my point. Personally, I would use it if it had usefull info, no matter what the cover. And if it didn't, I wouldn't pick it up, no matter what the cover. There is so much skin out there already...do you really expect it to differentiate you? What does everyone think about the credibility issue... ------------------ [This message has been edited by furnace (edited 01-08-2001).]
  20. Dolcemimi: I hope you're not referring to us when you say "small club scene". I think I speak for many of us here when I say that the people that have been meeting up and clubbing together from the board are not "...always about- Who's the prettiest, richest, coolest .. One big pathetic popularity contest. " Everyone has a place, a community. Especially in a city as large and diverse as this. I'm sorry if h.s. was tough, but being bitter doesn't get you anywhere. Come to the next meet-up and share the love ------------------
  21. You must be Asian... ------------------
  22. Pete...thanx...mebbe u can help me out if you know some of this stuff. What should I call it? Joey says that "dub" refers to other stuff... Maybe we can call it "world groove", since there are alot of cultural flavors integrated into it (which is why I like it so much...one of the reasons why Midnight on 27th St. is one of my fave trance tracks) I hate to pigeonhole stuff, but at the same time, you sorta need a point of reference so people know what you're talking about. Also, Pete, I know that the stuff has been around a while. Do you know any more stuff along these lines? Do you listen to it/spin it? It's DEFINITELY good to see that peeps here on the board have an open mind...I hope so, but wasn't sure... Anybody else listen to stuff we've probably never heard? ------------------
  23. Woo Oo! We will def share music soon...and we'll learn Latin dance after swing dancing... innuend0...good question. I find my own drum n bass stuff. Started with a few compilations, and you just branch off of that. Next Monday, I'm going to see a friend of mine spin at Joe's Pub. He is Ming from Ming & FS. They are based here in NYC, and they have an album out called Hell's Kitchen. I highly recommend you check them out. ------------------
  24. Bwahahaha... I was gonna say yes I'm there...but then I realized, I am waaaaay underdressed for Union Bar. I came to work today in fleece and baggy carpenter pants with the oldest most raggidy - ass old running shoes you've ever seen. I guess that's a plus for workin at at dot-com. Hope y'all have fun! -Slob ------------------
  25. Hey Charlie...I wish that was the case. If y'all are bored, respond to my post about New and Cutting Edge Music. Thanks! ------------------
