  2. EQ Magazine is a good resource for audio engineering info. You also might wanna look into purchasing an ear training cd set to help you learn about eq, phase, compression, etc.

The easiest way to probably do it would be just to pick out a track that has the same type of sound quality that you're after, play it over the speakers you'll be mastering your own track on, and then use SoundForge or T-RackS to tweak your mix and try to match the quality to the track you're using as a reference. Switch back and forth listening between the two tracks until you feel your track closely resembles the audio quality of your reference track.

  3. It'll take more than just reading a tutorial. Even for the basics, it's gonna take a lot of ear training. Find a friend who has experience with mastering and either have him show you some basics or just have him master it for you.

  4. Tonite, me and Rexx Arkana are gonna be spinning techno-industrial-gabber at Fun House. Then probably hitting up the afterhours dungeon after that.

Sat, going to see Prong in Brooklyn, then hitting up Downtime, then maybe hit up the dungeon again for afterhours.

  5. VJ Exeris does some pretty twisted visuals that he mixes live in time with the music, but I don't think he's done any of those kinda gigs since he moved here. I did a remix for his band, Mindless Faith, and he showed me some videos of raves he VJ'd at before he moved to NYC.

  6. Definitely Fun House every Friday at Flamingo East on the upper level. Rexx Arkana plays all of the bands you mentioned, and I play some of the more aggressive stuff like Funker Vogt, Numb, Wumpscut, Jugend Staat, E-Craft, etc. I also like to mix a little techno/schranz and hardcore in with the industrial.

Mugz, you don't need to wear black to get in. It's an ecletic crowd. If you tell them at the door that you're there to see Dräcos (me) spin, they'll let you in and you'll also get reduced admission ($5).

Anyway, Flamingo East is at 219 Second Ave btwn 13th & 14th Sts. 18+/21 to drink. Rexx doesn't go on til midnite, and I go on after him, so if you don't like synth-pop and 80s music, then it's probably best not to get there before midnite.

  8. Don't use the mic input. Use the line in input. If you just want to make a wav file, you could use the sound recorder program that should be pre-installed if you're using a PC. If you want to be able to edit it by normalizing it or compressing it or whatever, you'd need some software like SoundForge or something. You can burn the wav file to cd if that's what you want to do, and there's plenty of free mp3 encoders out there if you want to make an mp3 out of it. Check out hitsquad.com for software, and check out astalavista.box.sk for cracks.

  9. It depends. Sometimes people will give me their new tracks at the club and ask if I'll spin them, and usually I won't since I don't know the tune and I won't know if it'll suck or not. But I was pleasantly surprised last Friday when this drag queen gave me a copy of her new track and asked if I'd play it so she could do a performance to it. She had it set up really nice so I could mix in and out of it really tight, it had a good tempo since I usually play above 140bpm all the time, and the track turned out to be pretty sick.
