Chris Liebing coined the term back around 98 or so. Bascially, it's just minimal party techno. No huge builds, the rhythm is the melody... just amped up hard beatz that don't stop. A lot of the stuff Marco Bailey is doing nowadays could be called schranz. Even Thomas Schumacher to some extent. I think DJ Amok still has a page up on mp3.com, so check out his track "Gemetzel (2001 Rework)" if his page is still up. That tune is a pretty good example of schranz. Hard, sometimes dark, very mechanical party techno that's up around the 150bpm range.

Eh, I'm not that big of a VNV fan. But they definitely work for the dancefloor. I just like the harder shit. If you like them, you'll probably like a lot of Apoptygma Berzerk and Icon of Coil's newer stuff also. Pretty much along the same lines. Trancey industrial club beats with vox.

Agreed. Most of my friends have dreadlocks, thus never wash their shit. I've got long hair, but I wash and double condition it every day. And every once in a while I'll give myself a hot oil treatment. But every time I see their shit, I just have to cringe. I don't think I could go for more than a couple days without washing my shit.
