  1. I wouldn't put it in a box like that. Body & Soul is many things. True, many people use it as a comedown party. However, it can also be a great place to go when you didn't get out the rest of the weekend and just *have* to shake your groove thang before getting back to work on Monday. Definitely go, and make sure you stay past 8pm for maximum effect. P.S. The scene is house. Pure and non-imbibed.
  2. Amen to that. It amazes me how many people (I'm not pointing fingers, so please don't take offense) choose the "comfort" of a car over the safety of themselves and everybody else on the road. One reason that I chose to live in NY over any other large city is that I can go out and do WHATEVER I want -- and always get home safely.
  3. Actually, the software, not the OS, is generally at fault -- though a robust OS can usually handle software errors. The operating system is designed to handle certain kinds of requests from the software that you run on it. Sometimes, software is poorly designed and tries to do things that the operating system doesn't allow -- i.e., an "illegal operation". This sort of scenario can also be caused by multiple programs running simultaneously and experiencing conflicts between each other. Windows 9x/Me are not designed to be robust enough to handle such errors gracefully. They're consumer OS's, and as such Microsoft has not deemed it necessary to make them exceptionally robust. Try Windows 2000 if you can get your hands on it. You won't be disappointed. Sorry if that sounded preachy -- you asked for it
  4. Yeah... Body & Soul is 3-12. Sorry you can't make it. You should really check it out when you get a chance, though -- it's a great party.
  5. Body & Soul. But then again, I don't know what you're looking for.
  6. To all the replies... true. If you have to get fucked up to love it, you don't really love it. Met a girl tonight who loves house... when she's drunk. Sorry girl, but you don't love house -- you love booze. Hats off to all the people on this board who know their own hearts. We're one in a million, I feel.
  7. Does anyone know the words to "Cascades of Color"? I love that song, but I can't understand half of what they say.
  8. Forgive my ignorance, but who's this Boris character? What's he spin?
  9. Of the ones I've been to (Cheetah, Exit, Centro-Fly, Limelight, Vinyl), absolutely Vinyl.
  10. The subject says it all. Went from 6 to 9. I'll say it again... yay Body and Soul!!! EDIT: One more thing. On my way to Vinyl, I was singing "New Day" to myself, because that's the attitude I was trying to have. Guess what? They played it -- it was a beautiful moment for me <wipes single tear>.
  11. I dance by myself often, but I do get tired of going out on my own. I was excited about tonight because I'd be spending it in the company of friends. Ah, well. Moving on.
  12. I was supposed to go out with some friends, but found out that they chose a club that's 25 and up for guys. Guess what? I'm 22. And they're not changing their plans for me -- great friends, huh? To give them a little credit, they didn't know about the age limit, but still.... I had energy, but I feel it draining from me now. I really don't want to go out alone again, been doing that a lot lately. Maybe I'll just stay in and watch a movie. Shit.
  13. Danny Tenaglia -- the man himself -- said that Vinyl will be open on Friday. As mentioned, though, the area below Canal is closed to traffic. You may begin rejoicing now.
  14. It wasn't. $40 was the minimum. After seeing the same post that you're referring to, I was definitely taken by surprise. It was worth it, even though I couldn't really afford it.
  15. Definitely too crowded, though the Pinky Room was more manageable and the main room cleared up some after DT came on. <gripe> I was under the impression that the party was $20 minimum, $40 RECOMMENDED. But when I got to the door, I found out it was $40 MINIMUM. Now, I don't know who spread the rumor about $20, but it sucked big time that I barely had enough money left to buy a few bottles of water (and no, I wasn't rolling). With all due respect to the victims and their families, I was prepared to pay as much as I could really afford -- and that's how much I took out of the bank beforehand. </gripe> Enough whining. I HAD A BLAST. I hadn't danced in weeks (funding problems plus the obvious). I let out about 50 tons of pent up energy on the main floor, then moved down to the Pinky Room when I started feeling tired. Listened and danced to some great house down there, until it turned to rap. I was about to leave, but on my way out DT came on. I thought I'd already missed him! I caught my second wind immediately and stayed for about another hour. Well worth the $40. I just wish I'd been prepared. Was anybody else taken by surprise?
  16. Yeah, Tuesdays are generally pretty boring. But tonight: Moby and DT!
  17. Have you checked out the Sunday edition of the New York Times? When I was looking for work a couple of months ago, the number of paralegal positions available was mind-boggling. Sorry I can't help you any more. Good luck!
  18. hoke

    you....

Have you ever met a girl that you tried to date...
  19. <-- Raises hand. Question, though: I get off work at midnight. How late do you think this will run?
  20. When I was 16, I went to a club in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Don't remember its name, but I do remember having a great time!
  21. Vinyl has been closed recently due to the WTC attacks, but will be open again soon. To my knowledge, that includes Friday. The *Saturday* party -- Shelter -- is the one that got the boot for good. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  22. Body and Soul is indeed a great dance party. I'm a firm believer that the crowd makes the party, and Vinyl has a top knotch crowd.
  23. It doesn't take a genius to recognize the contradiction in these statements, either.
  24. Huh? Why? Here's something for you to try: If you're running Windows, open up the Character Map utility. Select the font "Wingdings". Have a look at all the characters available -- from which you could make all sorts of "freaky" images. Now, if this little joke wasn't the result of somebody with too much time on their hands, where do you suggest it came from? Did Satan magically make those characters appear on your screen?
  25. There are arabic people all over this country. Perhaps we should just all stay in our homes at all times, to avoid those dirty Arabs at all costs.
