    I believe I have a very good reason to hate Space. Here it is...

    I was planning to go and see Erick Morillo "close" Space 34 but some friends in Orlando wanted me to go up and visit so I missed it. When I came back to Miami and found out there was going to be a second closing party with Danny Tenaglia, I was a bit confused. I thought Space 34 was closed? But sure enough DT's site was boasting about the event. Being a huge DT fan, I had to go because I hadn't seen him in Miami since WMC01. My friends (also huge DT fans) decided to come down (it wasn't hard to convince them) and see Danny. I had warned them that my last experience at Space 34 (when Lalwer and Zabiela spun) was everything but enjoyable. My friends' response: "...fuck Lawler and fuck Zabiela too!" I agreed whole-heartedly! So it was on!!! First Danny Mitchell at Blue, then Chus & Ceballos at NV and then DT at Space 34. Blue was good as usual. Cheap drinks, laid back atmosphere, comfortable leather couches and great bar service! Off we went to NV. It was completely empty! They wouldn't stamp us for re-entry. Off to Space 34. It started when we got the bouncer attitude at the door. He was pissed because I didn't give him a FL license so he had to actually look for the birthdate!!! His words: "get a FL id!." The man was obviously dumb as a fucking brick!

    Cover was $30. We decided to pay it because it was Danny and I have no problem forking over the cash if Danny's playing. But the instant I saw the upcoming line-up I got so fired-up!!! That's when I truly realized that Space represents everything that is wrong about Miami's nightlife!!!

    The opening set was awful! Too hard, too monotonous, too fast! There was no space to dance. Wherever we stood, we got pushed around by juiceheads without shirts sweating like pigs and smelling like dung (if that's you, try using deodorant)! We went up to the tacky, tasteless concrete monstrosity they call a terrace!!! I can't even recall how many people asked us if we were selling or wanted to buy E or K or Coke. Is anyone stupid enough to say yes to these clowns? My friends were quite infuriated already, cursing and bitching about the hype with Miami's nightlife. I was feeling quite guilty. We bought small drinks in the world's most expensive plastic Dixie cups (and the bartender complained that we only tipped $1. We went inside and heard Danny for a while but it was very disappointing. Not a bad set, just nothing like the vibe when he plays at Vinyl (Arc). We left at 6:00 all of us completely pissed. My friends vowed never, ever to come back to Miami calling it dirty, grimey, and "if Space is the best you fuckrods have, then we feel really bad for you." A big argument ensued where I tried to convince them that next time we'll go elsewhere but to no avail. I don't know why I was even arguing. They were dead right!!! That night cost me the company of two good friends and a whole lot of attitude from a bunch of coked up employees on Puig's payroll!!! I realized that night that a party isn't a party without friends. Puig, you motherfucking, cum-guzzling, lying, cheating druggie!!!!!!!!

    Someone will come up with a place infinitely worse than hell with your fucking name on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the future, guard your fire alarms, fire exits, and start frisking your patrons. You never know when the occasional prankster might stop by to say hello!!!

    and you my friend are a dumbass.. don't hate me for it, it's just my opinion... ;)

    Technically I started clubbing when I was 15. My cousin got me into it. She was 18 at the time and tried to hook me up with one of her friends from school. Obviously we were not in the US. It was in Greece in the summer of 1993. Back then it was all Europop. I was sort of into that sound until I realized what real dj's were. That was when I saw Danny Tenaglia perform in Athens. I had no idea who he was. I just saw a NY Yankees hat in the booth and asked somebody who was djing and then they told me. From that moment, I was hooked. I didn't know all the subgenres of dance music but I started going out and learning. Then, I started listening toi Oakenfold and Sasha and Digweed and all those dj's. Then they got old and started doing it for the money so they didn't give a shit about being ecclectic with their sets. I gave up on big name dj's when I saw Howells at Arc. From that moment on, I vowed to stay away (except of course for DT's sets). Then I started getting into the roots of house music and I also liked the sound of the west because it sounded more "natural" and funky. Progressive had died for me a little while after Lucien Foort, Tarrantella and Redanka, etc, etc). I will now only settle for (under the house moniker) tech house, west coast house, deep house, latin funky house.

    nice story Phil.. u touched me...

    Now let me tell you guys a lil' story about how I got into clubbing...

    I was born in a little club off the shores of Spain called Space in the island of Ibiza. My mother (a clubber before me), was there clubbing & doing what clubbers do with my father. She started to feel some discomfort in her tummy, so my father walked her in the dj booth & sat her down next to a dj by the name of Carl Cox (My dad knew him, that's why he could take her in there). Anyway, to make a long story short, it wasn't the alcohol or the herbs my mother took that day & night that was making her tummy hurt & inflated. It was actually me! Miraculously mr. Carl Cox delivered me from her womb & held me up high above his turn tables as the music played & everyone cheered with happiness & joy. That was my first taste of music & clubbing & I've been doin' it ever since... :heart:

    F#@$ Space & F@!# Oscar G!! :mad::laugh:

    can you put me on the G-list for your Birthday party this Saturday?? :heart:

  7. Boy, some of you love to hate Space. What do you guys call empty?? Empty is what NV was @ 5am+ with about 25 peepz on the Dance floor!! << sorry sobe I know you love "MT" & your pals work there & all but I'm just statin' the facts... :rolleyes:

    As for Space- the Mainroom was full up until the terrace opened @ about 6am+ (that's when everyone ventured up there). I guess just over 1800 peepz means an unsucessful night @ Space?!? :rolleyes: If you're space capacity measuring stick is the "closing parties" then I would say most of u are close to being accurate. Unfortunately, when you stuff a venue with 4,000+ peepz in one night & it goes off the way it did, expectations rise & everyone expects it to be that way every week from there on out. If it isn't, then the Space "lovers" :rolleyes: come out mouths blazin'.

    Sure the Terrace didn't open till LP made the call. & if I'm LP I'm thinkin' why open the terrace @ 4am & risk losing the mainroom to the Terrace? The fact is, that if you hold all those peepz in 2 rooms for that long a time, as soon as you open that 3rd room they'll flock into it like a virus. Space's priority that night was the Mainroom & Sander. The flip side is, I'm not fully convinced about holding the terrace that long, because I believe a lot of peepz go there for that experience alone & others need a break from the Mainroom & lounge (escpecially as it gets later in the night). The Terrace also opens up another option/room to the club which might influence the average clubber to stay longer @ the venue while others continue to walk in thru the front door helpin' the entire club fill in while attempting not to bore the "Terrace" people who might grow impatient & leave. I'm sure the idea of 3 rooms sounds better than the holding the terrace/2rooms idea, but either way you look at it, both are a risk. So I'm gonna go with LP's method becuz he's got the knowledge & experience. But to say that Space was empty is an extreme exhajurration. The Mainroom was full all nite & I mean full from the second I walked in shortly after 1am. So toss that empty Space comment out the window... :rolleyes:

    I'm gonna leave some of you "Space lovers" with your pre-mature celebration ideas & move on. Some of you (hint: sobe2003) love to hate Space, but things will seem to quickly & radically change if your friends got an opportunity to work for the organization. Flat out hypocracy if you ask me... :rolleyes:

    Sure Space is goin' thru changes, but we're far from done. We might just surprise you soon enuff...

  8. Demi played a good set. Crowd was there, not "full", but more than definately there. Lots of familiar faces including Shawn Rudnick, Ralph Falcon, Jimmy T, Oscar Fonseca, Mono & Duque and then some. The fashion show chicks were hot, specially the girly w/ the black hair. Good stuff overall. I was really diggin' Demi's tunes (some tech, prog & tribal near the end of his set mixed & programmed flawlessly), I'm happy I got to finally catch a full Demi set... :aright:
