I respectfully disagree with what he says about LA but understand where he is coming from. As someone here who personally left NYC for the LA scene many years ago, the initial thought was one of depression thinking that LA could never match NYC. Yes, NYC will always ahve the density factor as a plus for the city - the ability to go so many places in just a matter of a moments on the subway or the cab where in LA everything is more spread out. But I really have to say, not to toot my horn, as someone who is exceptionally connected in LA, it's really jawdropping how every scene is represented in LA. Everything you mentioned you believe is absent in LA really does exist. The problem is it's not as well publicized as possible. (Again, not trying to shameless plug but) LALate tries to connect people that would otherwise never go to an all age massive or a 21 and over 18 hour dj warehouse party the opportunity. The scenes DO exist and LA has really pioneered the ability to take clubgoers from White Lotus at 2 am to a secret warehouse party in downtown LA with an entirety different vibe till sunrise the next day. What is a negative out here - and maybe is in NYC - is a lot of the house party, warehouse party, scenes are sometimes run by people who logically are rightfully so are trying to advance their career - music, art, whatever - and as soon as their career pops and starts to advance, their events die out as they move from warehouses into large scale arenas, and then television or radio. LALate has tried since establishment to bring all different vibes together under one house and has been very successful at doing so - yet there are so many other scenes, vibes, and grooves out there, than on average once a month which several dozen approx. presented to us to which we say - "wow, didnt know that even existed here". That's the true beauty and wonder that is LA nightlife. - LALate.com

Use to wear years ago Halston for men - the response from women was so incredible... the problem is the scent is hard to wear because its so strong, but the ladies went crazy for it. The best cologne on the market - Nomad --- you can wear it 24/7 for all purposes and it really becomes part of your scent, it doesnt seem like you wearing a cologne, girls love it, and a girl recommended it to me.

Man -- Ive read every post in this thread and watched the Limelight video. The limelight video brought happy tears to my eyes in a second. I'm not sure, but based upon the previous posts, my patronage of Limelight appears to be even a decade earlier.... starting in 1988. Let me tell you, in 1988, you dressed up in the thick of winter with your adult-looking jacket to make yourself looking older for the doorperson. You walk up with two hotel girls from your college and put the girls in front of you for the doorperson. And with a wink, smile, and hug, bam, you were in. Forget carding, we were in, time and time again. The upstairs railing watching the clubgoers downstairs, the hitting on foreign tourists in the club, the pipe organs. At that time, Madonna's Like a Prayer (never my favorite song) was a hit, and they lit up the organ pipes on CUE with the song, and each pipe flashed in sequence with the lead in to the song. That stuff just blew the socks off your feet as a 6' tall kid looking at ernormous organ pipes on a wall being light sequence with a song. It's amazing. Before I watched the video, I couldnt in my mind remember what the outside of the Limelight looked like, and then, in a heartbeat, you showed it in the video, and you brought tears to my eyes. In 1988 to 2000, Limelight, Tunnel, and Mars was the bomb, each with their own reputation of crowd and experiences you would encounter, and man, were those reputations. The video while later still brilliantly captures the look, attire, senseability of people at that time. I never did Tunnel, although wanted to. In fact, a couple of years ago, someone told me an episode of Sex and the City talk about the Tunnel decades earlier than the show and how Carry had gotten pregnant at the Tunnel back then, to which Samatha said "oh, remember what use to go down at the Tunnel?" Mars, however, I did patronize and boy was Mars unique. Does anyone have pics or vids of Mars? What made Mars great was its ability to shock you with bizarre acts in each room in a clubgoing setting in the middle of a rundown area (if I remember correctly). The vibe -- you could cut it with a KNIFE at Mars. Un-be-lievable vibe. By around 2000 Club USA was just about opening (if my memory is correct) and since I was leaving NYC at that time, never got to attend but the opening reviews then were unbelievable. The person who posted those videos, thank you so much, that was wonderful. A part of my memory had been lost and you've brought that back some heart-moving memories of one's clubgoing-coming-of-age period (for choice of a better word), many memories, more of which I would love to volunteer if anyone wants to hear them.
