YIKES! Some reallyyyyyy bad falsehoods in here. The waitress does .... what a waitress does. A good viphost (an independent), however, arranges the entire night. They will for a client sometimes spend upwards of several days in advance arranging details of the reservation, 1. negotiating down the required bottle number to save you money. 2. consulting and negoting re: the best location of the table per the client's desires for the night 3. negotiating re: a comp bottle if possible 4. negotatiing re: best total fee they can for a client 5. negotiating re: the time of the arrival for the client (clients sometimes want later, venues want earlier) 6. arranging the timing of their arrival from a previous venue/concert etc and depature for another venue or afterhours spot. 7. can even be involved with the transportation of the party to and from the venue(s) ... among many other tasks. There is no need to tip your host. You can if you want.
