  5. 3 Girls Killed, 2 Hurt in Texas Shooting By KRISTEN HAYS HOUSTON (AP) - A man was charged with capital murder Thursday after his teenage ex-girlfriend told police he shot her, her mother and her three younger sisters, killing the three youngest girls. Police were searching for 35-year-old ex-convict Anthony Quinn Francois, who the victims' relatives said had resisted Shamika Patterson's attempts to break up with him. Police spokesman John Cannon said Shamika, 16, told police who arrived at the scene, ``My boyfriend Anthony shot us.'' She and her mother, 34-year-old Sheila Patterson, survived. Her sisters - Nakisha, 15, Ashley, 11, and Brittany, 10 - died, Cannon said. The five were shot early Thursday while most of the family was sleeping in their home in southeast Houston. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Francois has been in prison five times since 1988 for crimes including drug possession and robbery. Cannon said police weren't aware of any protection orders barring Francois from associating with Shamika or her family. But he said that Francois apparently came looking for her. ``Whether or not his intention was to shoot the others, we don't know,'' he said. Hospital spokesmen said Thursday the family asked that no information be released about the conditions of Shamika and her mother. Family members who arrived outside the two-bedroom home in a low-income neighborhood said Francois had been upset with the teenager. Cousin Nicole Nellums, 23, said the two had recently broken up. ``He's just mad because she didn't want to be with him anymore,'' she said. Another cousin, 20-year-old Tiffany Patterson, sobbed outside the home. ``Why did he have to come and kill them? It's just not right,'' she said. 11. CLUB KING BOOTED By LAURA ITALIANO -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PETER GATIEN His family can stay. Email Archives Print Reprint August 21, 2003 -- Like some unkillable clubland Terminator, he has survived a federal drug prosecution, a tax-skimming conviction, the wrath of state and city regulators, hordes of hungry creditors, bankruptcy and debts still soaring into the millions. But yesterday, the curtain finally came down on Pierre Jean "Peter" Gatien, the city's embattled former King of Clubs, when an immigration judge ordered he be deported immediately to his native Canada. Judge Elizabeth Lamb of the Justice Department's Executive Office of Immigration Review ordered Gatien's "green card" yanked under the 1996 Immigration and Naturalization Act, which allows the feds to deport resident aliens who have committed serious felonies. Gatien's felony was his 1999 guilty plea to skimming $1.3 million in state taxes from his Limelight and Tunnel nightclubs in the 1990s. Gatien will leave behind his family - who are all American citizens - a pricey Gramercy Park apartment, millions in vendor and tax debt and his probation officer. But although he'll be gone, he won't be forgotten, said lawyer Benjamin Brafman. Gatien is in negotiations to sell the rights to his life story to "some very prominent people in the entertainment industry," Brafman said. "Something spectacular will be announced fairly soon," he said. Gatien had used his pricey team of lawyers to stave off deportation through three years of legal arguments and court delays - much in the way he has kept at bay seemingly everyone from federal prosecutors to unpaid ice and beer vendors. But the judge yesterday ruled that Gatien could no longer remain free on bail while deportation hearings dragged out. Faced with going into federal custody for the months it could take to continue fighting deportation, Gatien decided to throw in the towel and agree to be deported. That way, said Brafman, he'd only be in custody for the several days it will take to process his one-way trip to Canada. Gatien's wife and business partner, Alessandra, 35, and daughter from a previous marriage, screenwriter and actress Jennifer, 28, dabbed their eyes with handkerchiefs provided by Brafman as Gatien was led away, without handcuffs. "He's still in the country, so I'll believe it when I see it," said one of Gatien's largest creditors, when told of the deportation ruling. "He keeps living the good life. He hires the best lawyers, and they're the only ones who get paid," said the creditor, who asked not to be identified. In the early and mid-'90s, as owner of the hedonistic Tunnel, Limelight, Club USA and Palladium dance clubs, Gatien was a nightlife icon. The empire crumbled slowly, but dramatically. There were fatal drug overdoses in both Tunnel and Limelight, and his colleague, drug-deranged party promoter Michael Alig, was busted for the hammer-bludgeoning death of another club kid over a drug debt. He sold Tunnel and Limelight in 2001.
  12. my heart goes out to the relatives. 4 children found shot in burning home Wednesday, August 20, 2003 Posted: 12:20 PM EDT (1620 GMT) Anthony Lamar Bailey, shown in this undated Detroit Police handout photo, is wanted for questioning -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Story Tools -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DETROIT, Michigan (AP) -- Four children ages of 1 to 12 years old were found shot -- three fatally -- in the basement of a burning home, and their father is being sought for questioning Wednesday. The surviving child, a 9-year-old girl, was in critical condition at Sinai-Grace Hospital, police officer Christopher Cole said. Police believe the father, Anthony Lamar Bailey, 37, fled the scene on a bicycle after the blaze started sometime before 9 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities were not calling Bailey a suspect, but urged residents to dial 911 if they see him. Cole said neighbors reported Bailey had been raising the children and that he was in the middle of a divorce with the children's mother, who has not been seen for about a month. Cole said it appeared the fire was set to cover up the crime, but added that further investigation will be needed to confirm that. Tommy Samuels, 38, who was visiting his brother in the neighborhood, said he saw firefighters bring out the children's bodies. He said the firefighters tried in vain to revive one of the children, who appeared to be a girl about 2 years old. "They tried to save that baby," he said. "They really, really, tried. They kept pounding on her and pounding on her."

  14. Suspect In Jam Master Jay Murder Reportedly Shot DJ's Nephew AUGUST 20TH, 2003 A suspect in Jam Master Jay's murder has reportedly been charged with shooting the rap legend's nephew. The Daily News reports Wednesday that 20-year-old Karl Jordan was charged last week for firing three rounds at 18-year-old Rodney Jones in Queens in May. According to the report, Jordan is being held on $50,000 bail on charges of attempted murder. Jones is said to be recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg. According to the News, investigators are also looking at Jordan as they try to solve the October murder of Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell. Mizell was shot to death inside his Queens recording studio on October 30, 2002. According to the News, a witness says he saw Jordan enter the studio shortly before the shooting. Mizell was a co-founder of Run-DMC, which is credited with bringing rap into the mainstream.
