  1. I'm actually the real santa. Yup, that was my lap you were sitting on.
  2. Fuck Disneyland, Shelter is the happiest place on Earth! I always leave that place inspired, with a smile on my face. I hope it goes another 15.
  3. Just because it's easier doesn't make it better. Having to get your song signed by a label helps filter out a lot of crap. Now, without a filter, the market is being flooded with crap. What is happening may seem nice now, but it will ultimately kill the EDM scene. TRUST ME! Anybody who knows how the industry works will agree with me on this. If you don't know, please do us a favor and take your ass over to one of the Pacha threads.
  4. As a DJ and producer I can say for a fact that there are songs that are made where the low end is a major driving force of the song. These songs just don't sound good when played on a CD. Anybody who has ever been to Shelter can voutch for me on this point. For those of you who haven't, I'll give another example. Everybody has heard Switch's "A Bit Patchy" (that song with a sample of Sugarhill Gang's "Apache"). The bass on that song is key. With no low end it loses soooo much. (magicxmotion, I'm not directing this at you, just using your quote to state a point )
  5. Antifm was right on. The chapel room and the main room were both bangin! I found myself runnin back and forth between the two. Great vibe. lol "That Guy" was in full effect. Well worth it! PS - "Asian persuasion" was definately representin. I was lovin it. Had to text my friend at one point to let him know what he was missin. Mmm mmm good
  6. Yeah, but the majority of DJ's are playing in IMPROPER venues rather than proper ones. This is what I really get a kick out of though.... If you go to a smaller venue and see the DJ playing all CD's, she/he'll usually tell you it's because she/he would rather bring a couple of CD books than a few crates of records. OK, I can understand that. It's easier. We do, after all, live in a lazy society. But then you'll see them bring out their own CD player(s) (the cost of these could be anywhere between $500-$2000, depending on what kind and how many) because the CD players at the venue are shitty, or they don't know how to work them. LoL. I don't know about anyone else, but I wopuld rather bring out records than equipment any day of the week. Breaking down, setting up, breaking down, setting up. Such a pain in the ass!
  7. Cool! I'll just say this. W/out people who don't keep it real, who would we know who really was keeping it real?
  8. I love 127bpm, but the other night I was playing some Terry Mullen, DJ Dan, Bad Boy Bill type shit at 135bpm and almost blew a load!
  9. You're my boy Bull, but I just don't see exactly where you are going with this. I understand your willingness to commend said dj/producer for not comprimising his morals. I hope this is what you mean by keeping it real and not referring to the style of music he would have to play if he had played Pacha.
  10. Feel free to come by anytime, if even to just hang out. We hang out late on Thursday nights while we broadcast our internet radioshow. It's a good pre-game to the weekend.
  11. You said the key words: "Paid their dues." A lot of the younger generation have been spoiled by their parents most of their lives. They are used to instant gratification and a lot of the time not having to pay for it. They don't want to pay their dues. People in this industry, for the most part, are not made overnight. It takes commitment and patience. After you go through all the bullshit you can do whatever you want. This also goes back to antifm's question. To briefly answer it: yes, kids today are lazy and that probally influences their decision on why to play CD's over records.
  12. I'm talking about here in the states. They do things differently over there. People are different. The politics are different. The Market is different. I wish it could be like that over here.
  13. HA! Thanks! Unfortunately the site is down right now. It'll be back up in a week or so.
  14. haha What up holmes? Thanks again for comin out on Thursday and doin the show w/ us. Had a blast!
  15. I've actually had people ask if I wanted to join file sharing groups on the web. AND I OWN A F'ING RECORD STORE!!!
  16. If House music becomes commercialized by the corporate big-wigs, then I say F' that shit! If it becomes mainstream by 'the people' from a result of quality music, then I'm all for it. Why? If the people help it grow, then we will have more control of the direction it will go. If the corporations get their hands on it then we have no say. Just look at what happended to hip-hop and punk.
  17. Like most other sub-genres, Dj'ing is a lifestyle. You have to immerse yourself into the music. Its more than playing one song after another. It's being able to establish a flow. It's being able to establish a connection with other people through your selection of music. It's being able to move an audience, no matter how big or small the audience may be. It's a willingness to sacrifice other things in your life to do something you love. It's the ability to be a part of something bigger than yourself. It's an addiction. It's a feeling. It's something that's really damn hard to explain. I aien't gunna hate on people who play CD's. Some of the better Dj's that I know use CD's. I do have a problem with people who get most of their music through free download websites + free file sharing groups because they would rather spend their money on drugs or some shit for their car. I do have a problem with people who don't involve themselves with the scene. I do have a people who are damn leeches and vultures and contribute NOTHING to the betterment of the scene. Stop looking for damn handouts! CD's don't kill vinyl, freeloaders kill vinyl!
  18. Just sayin its not Pacha so nobody really cares. People care more about the venues now rather than the DJ's (for the most part)
  19. I think it says something about the state of affairs when only about 3 people take this semi-seriously.
  20. There are a lot of NY DJ's who are getting up there in age (Timmy Regisford, Francois K, Louie Vega, Roger Sanchez, Danny Tenaglia, David Morales, Danny Krivit). Do you really see these guys doing this for another 10 years? If not, who do you think will "fill their shoes" as the big names in the city? I mean, seriously, who could step in for Timmy @ Shelter when he decides he's done? Are these parties going to die?
