your favorite local DJ's and why - just curious

Hey guys,

long time no post. Been observing but I haven't wanted to join in on all the bickering. I am curious though as too who your favorite locals are and why. Here is my list

1) Jon Cowan - this guy amazed me last week when he opened for Dave Seaman. To be honest, I thought he was much better than dave and dave played a damn good set. Dave and Jon also went two for two at the end and Jon didn't miss a beat. You coulnd't tell the difference. He is also the only local that from what I understand has true international expirience. I've heard he's played for big UK clubs like renaissance, slinky, cream and in just about every country around the globe. Why doesn't he play more locally? his sets are so diverse ranging from dark deep stuff, to nice vocally stuff, to banging uplifting tunes. Jon is definitely my favorite local.

2) Austin Leeds - another top local that never plays here.....why I ask? top producer who is just as good behind the decks. His sets are deep dirty and dark ala digweed. every time I've seen him he has really impressed me, I only wish he played for us more.. I am constantly reading about his sets all over the globe on the global underground board.. If he's getting international bookings why don't club owners book him in his hometown?? weird huh?

3) Oscar G - reognition is definitely due for the main man in MURK. Oscar has been one of my favorite miami guys for a number of years. His mixing ability is SICK and his track selection can be amazing. Sometimes lately though, Mr. G plays too obvious. He also occasionally even plays trancey which makes no sense too me. He used to be the deep trbally house master. I wish he would just stick too his roots. I guess you have to play a bit of cheese from time to time to stick with space though. I am just glad oscar is finally getting the respect locally that he's deservd for years..

well - I guess thats my top 3 - look forward to all of your opinions..

peace,

the herbster:laugh:

My top five in no particular order:

Oscar G – always on the money.. his track selection is as tight, as the beats he throws down.

Edgar V. – the man is more then just a trance dj.he is just a damn good dj.

Roly – I was one of his biggest critics, and now I’m among his biggest fans. he just gets better and better every time I hear him. he is the real king, of the Space patio in my book.

Jimmy Toural – banging house that always gets me moving..

Eddie S. – MIA lately but he can throw down some of the sickest tribal beats around.

Robbie Rivera – once a month at crobar isn’t enough. the man is a master on the dex.

He's not the only guy down here that plays internationally. How about..

Brian Tappert: plays regularly at Ministry of Sound, Pacha (Ibiza), and everywhere else in the world

and how about other local guys Louis Benedetti (Soulshine), John 'Julius' Knight....

I really like Louis Benedetti and John Knight's production work, really vocally, soulful tunes. Migs threw down a nice remix of "find a friend" on Sat.

My Favs

DHM - Never know what kind of set to expect from them. Always keep you guessing.

Vaughnz and Sheldon (Lust Crew) - They never get mentioned on this board but these guys really rock!

No particular order -

1.) Roland - He's been defining his own style of sorts lately. Keeps it at a nice 127-135 the whole night, while having an excellent variety of sounds, as well as a few interesting on the fly mixes that he pulls off :)

2.) Oscar - Miami's answer to Danny T. Does the marathon set thing when he can, and is finally getting local recongnition. Keeps it very fast paced, perfect for the morning hour. Production work is unparalleled. He's done a lot, that's for sure!

3.) Stryke - More than just techno for sure. It's too bad Ongaku! had to go...

4.) Edgar - People classify him as trance, but he can do so much more...very versatile

5.) Sean Bauzay - Likes Bedrock stuff a lot, mixes it well, makes for an enjoyable evening.

6.) DJFX - Breaks and more. I'm a sucker for scratching, which he pulls off very well.

7.) Luis Diaz - Tribal, progressive, all mixed well with each other...

8.) Jimmy T - Good tracks to get the dancefloor moving...

9.) Jon Cowan - Does a good job of tossing in some old tracks that I still love to hear, as well as getting a hold of new stuff no one has yet ... throws a killer party too!

10.) Ariel Baund - Too bad he's stuck at Level, he really needs more exposure!

Thanks Jesse and Dan. :)

my faves are

DJFX-spins breaks, house, drum and bass, downtempo, he scratches, and mixes well

Stryke-always busy on the decks, doesn't settle for just mixing tracks and is always tweaking knobs and playing with effects...great producer, very cool guy and not to mention extremely generous

Oscar G-heard him once....blew it up...very impressive

Edgar V- good trance, down to earth guy

mine will be rather obvious but here we go.

Greg 'Stryke' Chin - techno, house, progressive , tech-house he can do it all .. puts on a clinic everytime I hear him spin. School is in session kids. A really great person as well. Ongaku is dead Long live Ongaku!!

Oscar G - hmm what can I say. He totally knows how to rock a crowd no matter how big or small it is. Track selection makes trainspotters head spins. Someone who make you laugh so hard you will cry.

DHM - Ahh DHM. The people who got me listening to deephouse. I thank them and the aquabooty crew and some guys named james and marick for opening my mind up to this beautiful and soulful music. Finally getting some love locally. These guys can throw down.

Juan Mejia - One of the sickest opening dj's period. Really knows how to get a floor moving without overdoing it. One of Miami's best.

Sean and Jimmy T - Really know how to get a floor shaking. Looking forward to hearing from both of these guys on a more consistent basis.

Ariel Baund - really works with what he haves. I've only heard him a couple of times but he really makes records come out and jump at you. :) Bright future for him.

MURK - I know I mentioned Oscar, but I'll include Ralph as well. These guys really put on a clinic on how to make a floor move at space back in Sept. Midnight Expresso anyone? :)

SPACIOUS MAKE IT HAPPEN AGAIN!

TAKIN OVER MIAMI,

Ramon C.

He plays on DJ Pete Dekan's weekly radio show. He's also an active member of this board. I respect Oscar, Stryke, JC and everyone else, but I'm a trance/breakbeats kind of guy. Call me old fashioned, but that's just what "does it" for me
