New York City DJ looking for residency

Recommended Posts

there is a difference in my mind between being a "dj" and "spinning records".

not everyone has spent enough time nor has the talent to be called a dj and fall into the other said category.

with that being said, i say good luck trying to find some things, but honestly, it's all about the hussle...if you're not constantly going out, talking up people, handing out mixes, trying to network then in my opinion you're really not trying to make it for yourself...but who knows, you might be doing that..but if you're not, i suggest you look at your goals.

Aren't we all right? OK, I'm placing myself on the map for booking agents and promoters for house music venues alike to find. This is yours truly, Mix Show DJ Delmar Browne AKA The Lord of Flatbush inquiring an opportunity for bookings to any, available clubs or lounges. If you wish to contact me, please email demix@delmarbrowne.com or check my website "In De'-Mix".

The URL is www.delmarbrowne.com

I hope to hear from you from soon.

Enjoy the Music

hey dude .. along with David Joseph's suggestions . i suggest u go to parties just like anyone else .. check out good DJs and see what they do best .. socialize with people .. and be a club goer .. be part of the sceen .. do business sometimes but not all the times .. meaning .. also have fun and mix with the crowd .. be part of them .. and they will tell u where the opportunities are .. what music do they like ..

i know my crew specifically are big on that .. i.e. giving best advice .. going to the best DJs/venues .. etc.

i don't know how much time/money you have on hand to do the above but it it worth while doing it .. and if u know the right people .. u might not need to spend that much money to socialize ..

if u do all of the above already .. GREAT ..

in any case .. best of luck to you ..

peace

damn, that was unneccasary....you ask people for something on a msg board leaving MINIMUM info...and when some people kindly responded telling you what they think would help..u tell them their assistance was no good..

lets be honest...NOBODY GETS WORK OFF A MSG BOARD>.and since "the resume speaks for iteself", you wouldnt need to post..or you would ba aware..that nobody is taken seriously on messge boards because "everyone is a dj" these days...and the odds of meeting people who are TRULEY important in the bussiness aspect of this industry is HIGHLY unlikely - simply because..even if they did see your post...there are 109320392 other guys that post the same thing every day...the ones that make it...are the ones that hit the streets...if they have something special to offer, word of their talent spreads around. Everyone is always so quick to try to jump in this game and get "a name", they start praising every little thing theyve done..and every gig..and yada yada...well guess what...you and 1000000 other people...so instead of trying to make yourself sound good..just shutup and let the music talk for you and if you really think you have something to offer(and i dont mean this in a cruel way..more of a figure of speech)...people will react.....

anywayz.... the computer is not the place..i dont care what anyone says..and i think the response u had up there was pretty damn cocky..especially to people who just wanted to help you.

trancesun2 .. that is nice of you my friend . i really appreciate that ..

well it is simple . if i dont like some place or venue . i will either be constructive about it .. or i would just move on and not bash it . there is no point ..

besides .. no matter what clubs do. there will always be people who dont like this or dont like that .. it is just the nature of humans ...

there was this story about an ancient figure .. this man was a wise guy but he always had a comic twist on things ..

so the story goes that .. one day he went out to the market with his son .. and their donkey .. the man was riding the donkey and the son was walking behind it .. they passed some people . and the people go .. "look at the cruel man... riding while his son is walking" .. so they switch .. and now the son was riding the donkey and the man walking behind .

next they pass another group of people . and they go "wow ..look at this un-grateful son . he rides while his old man walk" ... so the man and his son figured .. ok . lets both get on the donkey ..

so now they passed another group of ppl .. and they go "look at these brutal cold-hearted people .. both of them on the donkey .. no mercy for the animal" ...

so they both get off the donkey .and the man figures ..ok . lets just carry the donkey .. and as they did and passed group of people . those go "look at these two . they lost their mind " ..

the story here means tht there will always be someone who does not like what you do .. so move on .. do the thing that makes sense to you .. to the best u can do it ..

peace

yup, but like i said..NYC unfortunately has a horrible crowd..they bitch..they moan..they dont support the local scene unless your the 1 in a million rare "fanboy DJ" ...vicious..peters..etc.but i love seeing others who just love the scene for what it is..small party..big party...if there is music and people smiling...its an event worth going to. I think too many wanna b dj/producers jump the gun too quick to become the next famous guy..when instead they should focus on doing what they love..eventually people will notice..or eventually you will learn enough about the scene to the point where you know everyone from every aspect and genre of the scene...and like i said above..if you got it..and you present someone with what u can offer...they will bring you into this lovely yet sometimes dark...industry. anywayz..in another post i read you were in egypt....i love egypt. Many of my close freinds are from that area...and we get along great..im greek...and the egyptians are very similar..when it comes to family values...partying..music....all the good stuff. n e wayz..once again..expressing my love for others true to the scene....ya habibi ...

It's true and being cocky wasn't be understated! New York City is probably the toughest city to get any guest spot or residency; Reason being that everyone is out there for the same thing! The competition and talent is out there, but it's being overlooked based on the genre of music. This was a topic spoken on a panel at the Billboard Dance Music Summit; Hip Hop Music is being supported by their peers and Dance Music either doesn't get the same support or chose to keep it's genre underground by their peers.

trancesun2 ... i am half Egyptian .. half French/Chinese (my Chinese is only like 8% and dont ask me how i calculated it . hehe)

one of my co-workers are Greek and he is the coolest kid ever .. and i have known Greek guys and they were generally very positive and optimistic about things .

and yes we share the same values about family, parties, music, etc.

u should come out with us sometime man .. i feel we are friends already :)

just pm me and i will let u know of our next outing .. well .. i wont be out for quite a while myself coz of my family emergency situation . but the crew will ..

peace
