vegasguy25
Yes folks, probably the biggest, best known brand in US clubbing is setting up shop in Vegas at the NY-NY Hotel. They're moving into the spot that currently houses the Cabaret Theater, in which Rita Rudner currently performs. Her last gig is June 10th. Construction will start shortly thereafter, with an eye toward being open by NYE. Oh, and they're also setting up shop in LA on Hollywood Blvd in a venue called the Fox Theatre. Crobar LA is on pretty much the same timeline as the Vegas one.

No one can convert a Rita Rudner Theater into a major venue in SIX months thats suppose to compete with venues that cost $28 million down the street.LA - that spot is abandoned and has no entitlements. If they just started permitting today, under current permit timelines wont be open till 07. Nice location though. Lets hope they dont do another LA Godskitchen slipslam like 05. vegasguy25
Not sure why you guys think it is not possible for a club to be built in six months. If an entire resort can be built in two years, a club can be built in six months.
epope
Buddy...it could be possible...But I know for a fact its not going to be done by then a good friend of mine is friends with the owners....and she has told me its 2007 for sure...not sure what time though but its not going to be NYE...iTs actually going to be brought about by the same owner of Tao... lalate
For LA permit timelines, a place on Hollywood B with no entitlements cannot be done beginning (filing) to end (door opening) in 6 months.
cool1g
IMO the biggest time in building a venue from scratch is the actual construction of the venue itself. In this case its already done - they basically just have to reconfigure it for a nightclub. To me it seems reasonable that can be done in 6 months or less.RE Crobar LA, i had heard earlier this year they didn't get a cabaret license and the deal was dead. But a friend who does business with Crobar was the one who said its still on schedule and gave VG that info he posted. We'll see - i hope they do open. Crobar Miami is probably my favorite indoor clubbing experience in the US.

vegasguy25
For LA permit timelines, a place on Hollywood B with no entitlements cannot be done beginning (filing) to end (door opening) in 6 months.LA is already permitted. Stop guessing that it isn't. Basically, it is outfitting a theater, since they can't tear them down in LA like we can here in Vegas. Crobar Miami is awesome though, so I have high hopes for what they can do with the Fox Theatre.
ukjay43
NY NY is an easy answer for why Crobar....People that "know" Crobar are mostly Eastern Seaboard folks....NYC and Miami...Sure there is Chicago as well but....NY NY caters bigtime to the Northeastern Italiano's who frequent and stay there all the time. Natural match.Crobar in Miami(I was there about 2 weeks ago)is too cramped and not a great venue for WMC due to the natural overcrowding and insane followings of certain DJ's. I will admit it's an awesome club however when not overflowing with too many peeps.I am interested in seeing what kind of music selection Crobar in LA will adopt. This wack ass Hollywood Town and all of it's poser promoters and wanna be actors like Hip Hop....to the Max. And before LA LATESKI attacks with a fervor---yes there are spots in So Cal for great house music---but all in all...LA is a predominately Hip Hop scene now and I don't see any change in sight due to the demographic trends. I do hope that Crobar becomes a sophisticated club for the Dance Music loving set and gives AVALON--aka LA's Crack House and Spundae---LA's Weird Rave club a major run of competition in the years ahead. It's amazing at all of the Money being spent on Nightclubs in Vegas in the last year. And the latest Rumor is that Drai's is going to move to one of 4 "currently being considered" Casinos and have an all new venue with the same vibe and ambience as the first "smoke filled dungeon".They need to do something fast because once the patio/terrace opens at Late Night Empire----that place will be off the rails and packed to capacity at all times.Yo E! Do you know where Drai's will eventually end up? My peoples tell me that the Barbary Coast is set for demolition within the next year(More High Rise Condos---how about that for perfect location) and Victor is just going to move rather than wait to be told when he has to.Your take?Jay C

ukjay43
Avalon is a good venue depending on the DJ or act.But if you stay there until late and happen to find yourself in the terrace area-----yikes.....Hopefully you aren't sober to see what is likely to be surrounding you. ;-)It's also very dirty and can become a "rave like" atmosphere. Why I love Vegas so much more is the "cleanliness" of the club scene.Jay C
greenie
I've had some great nights at Avalon thanks to some incredible DJ sets... but I've definitely run into my share of sketchy situations as well. As Vegas clubs (and other spots/cities) have matured I too have less patience for that kind of scene. If I happen to be in LA and say, Christopher Lawrence is lined up at Avalon I won't hesitate to go... but it's not the kind of place I'll simply go regardless of the DJ... which is something I do at most any club in Vegas.but back to Crobar...I'm definitely excited if only because they're a serious player in the electronic scene and their arrival will only set the bar higher for the entire industry. From what I had been told a few months ago, the Aladdin /Planet Hollywood location fell through because Crobar wasn't confident that the casino would be committed to promoting the club, since the PH people can't even commit to getting off their asses on their renovations. Finally I would also like to say that about 6-8 months ago I brought up my hearing about Barbary Coast being on the short list for demolition and boy oh boy did some of you think I was insane. (well, I am insane, but for different reasons)
epope
Hopefully you aren't sober to see what is likely to be surrounding you. ;-)Jay CHey Jay....I think if your up at 7in the morning dancing your ass of on any terrace you better be f'ed up because everyone else will....And everyone is going to look like people from the Michael Jackson - Thriller Video...lololol...In regards to Drai's honestly I don't know where they could move it to. I am sure they have some things in mind, but to keep the whole Drai's Feeling not sure where they could be moving it to. Will be interesting to see though. I am wondering if they are going to find a location for it at the Wynn. Since Mr. Drai is part owner of Tryst. Not sure we shall see....And Jay!! Don't Forget ReHab RX 2006!! Opening Day....I am so not letting you out of this one!!
vegasguy25
Hey Jay....I think if your up at 7in the morning dancing your ass of on any terrace you better be f'ed up because everyone else will..I am up partying at that time periodically, and sometimes well past that, and I am never fucked up on anything. I can still have a great time. Sunday morning we left Empire Ballroom at 10am stone sober, having had a lot of fun.
