Teller, headlining magician and illusionist at the Rio and star of Showtime's Penn & Teller: Bullshit!

"Pool parties are a modern society's way of un-subtly humbling each and everyone of us! No matter how hot you think you are—or how hot you think someone else looks—someone even hotter shows up! I am glad I have had time to work on a good personality."

With summer just around the corner everyone is preparing for a palm-tree-and-bikini-infested battleground with the Las Vegas nightlife community going non-nocturnal and bringing the battle to the daylight hours at swimming pools up and down the Strip. While Rehab might be firing the opening volley next weekend when they kick-off their third annual summer of chaos, it is Tao that is positioning itself to run and gun in the summertime sun.

It is now official: Tao and the Venetian Hotel have formed a partnership that will give the Asian-infused hot spot their very own 14,000-square-foot outdoor entertainment facility and pool deck. The 21-and-over venue is shaping up to be both a daytime and nighttime operation with daylight hours focused on a French Riviera-style beach/pool club. The nighttime party scene expansion will serve as a fourth room to fill with the beautiful, the famous and the party-hungry. The pool will be accessible from the hotel's main pool area as well as from a stairway that is currently being constructed within the nightclub. "We expect the action to be non-stop day and night," noted Tao honcho Jason Strauss who will over-see the operational and marketing efforts of the new sun-soaked venue. "The venue will feature cabanas complete with flat-screen plasma TVs, pool tables and the other requisite perks," he continued, while adding that the 'bathtub babe' concept will certainly be extending to the new venue as well. "We are really excited about this new project and feel that the Las Vegas nightlife community will really love what we are doing. We will be blending party aspects of Ibiza, Monte Carlo and St. Tropez with Las Vegas and doing something no one has really done before in this city!"

Those of you oiling up already can slow down just a touch, the venue is still a few months away from its late summer opening date. One thing is for sure though, when it does open, it certainly sounds like it will push Las Vegas nightlife to the next level giving us true outdoor/poolside party venues to compete with similar venues that have enjoyed much success in Miami, Fla. It isn't the only expansion Tao has plans for either. One source told The Eye that they are currently negotiating with several other principles that would result in "brand expansion" venues elsewhere in the property. We're not 100 percent sure what that means, but it sounds promising!

Wow, that's some really impressive and lofty plans that Venetian has for extensions to Tao and the pool. Really makes me think about how much Mandalay Bay is missing the boat here.

Now, it's been a few years since I've stayed at the Venetian. But I've never gotten the impression that the weekend crowds booking rooms there are as prone to the Miami/Ibizia/Mykonos style of pool/beach parties... as compared to say, those booking rooms at the Hard Rock.

Maybe it won't matter much, but one of the things that I've always felt makes Rehab so succesful is that it's not just a promoted event, it's really an extension of the entire party vibe that the entire hotel focuses on. So I'll be very curious to see how the Venetian tries to cross-promote room bookings with their new pool scene.

Honestly, as someone who spent his young adult life in pools across the country, I never understood why Vegas pools, in general ..... lets say it .... SUCK. You build a $20 gazillion dollar casino and you leave $4 for the pool. Yes, some complexes have amazing pools. But a ton of pools are just down right inconvenient to get to or are just a joke.

Its about time a complex tries to do it right.

If any of you have been to Ibiza or Nikki's in SoBe.....

you know how amazing these pool/beach/club venues are.

I truly can't imagine a better venue for "hanging out" then Nikki Beach. Throw in the music/vibe and first rate facility/staff....and it's the shite.

Now a small bird is telling me that Nikki's is looking to expand in "Lo Cal"...

Not official but considering two spots right now.

Why they don't put one in Vegas.....no real answers for that.

;-)

And we gotta remember that some forms of House, at least in my opinion, are so much more enjoyable to listen to outside, near water, in a beach or tropical setting than inside in a dark smoke filled room.

The music listening experience is dramatically transformed when you find urself dancing shoeless in the shade under a tree to a beat that sounds like it was made for that setting.

You either have to get their super early and wait in the long ass line to buy a wristband before they reach capacity- or have your friends register you to their room for $40/person if they don't already have 4 people registered. If they do, the hardrock will not issue any other wristbands to that room.

They have a few people at the door checking for wristbands and are pretty strict

hey! coming to vegas for mdw for the 1st time. can we get into pool parties without staying at the hotel the party is at?

If a pool is hosting a party event (e.g. Rehab at Hard Rock) then they typically will offer admission to non-guests for a cover charge.

Otherwise if it's not a special event, over MDW it can be tough to get into the better pools at hotels you're not staying at, at least Fri/Sat/Sun. Most of them at least want to see a room key, the bigger ones will actually scan your key card to verify that you've got an active room there.

That's been my experience, anyway... perhaps others here can shed some light or maybe share a trick or two for getting in. :)

A "trick or two"...

Trick 1....

Offer the guy promoting the event(or the head of security)

A Hundo(this will get you in if mostly girls and one or two guys)

If you are all guys, you better be hooking them up $50 per two guys(minimum)

Trick 2....

Roll with my crew....;-)

forgive me for asking, but what's a hundo??

there are 6 of us - 3 girls, 3 guys. we fly in saturday afternoon and are staying all week till the following saturday. my issue is that we're kinda like music snobs, lol - don't really like the whole hip-hop thing - MUCH prefer house (or trance)...we're spoiled here in new york (i guess on vacation it's more tolerable though).

i hope someone posts the "low down" of everything going on that week (i think i saw the start of that in another thread). seems like there are lots of parties so i'd love to know where they are, times, and what kind of music is spinning.

thanks for your help!

Doubt there will be much in the way of pool events during the week and no official pool events for Saturday or Monday have yet been announced. Rehab on Sundays plays primarily house/trance but they do mix it up, especially if the crowd responds positively.

And yes there are already other threads giving the scoop on the big MDW weekend events, tons if information is already there (and will grow over the next few weeks). Some really incredible lineups for electronic music over the weekend.
