NYC Clubs next to be Shutdown?

Recommended Posts

I was reading an article in the NY Post yesterday about NYPD enforcing the laws in NYC clubs. The articled from my understanding hired underage girls to try to get into clubs and charged the club owner for violating laws of allowing underage minors in, underage drinking, not checking ID, drug activity also they cracked down on the outside of clubs for DWI, public lewdness, disturbing the peace. Club Spirit is the first to be shutdown but can operate for there scheduled corporate parties until Dec. when it will close for good, The next that is on there hitlist are Crobar, Pacha. I will post the article when I find it.

HOTTIES A LURE

PROMOTERS FILL CLUBS WITH UNDERAGE BABES

By ANGELA MONTEFINISE and ELIZABETH WOLFF

________________________________________

September 24, 2006 -- The club scene in New York City revolves around young, hot girls who, whether or not they're 21, are invited into parties to line the pockets of club owners and promoters bringing in six-figure salaries, those in the scene say.

"The key demographic is a young, stylish, hip person," said promoter Eric Soler, 34, who works all over downtown Manhattan.

He and dozens of other promoters create lists of potential patrons and steer them into clubs with promises of discounted cover charges and bottle service or free-drink tickets.

"For the most part, you go after women, because women are going to bring men who are going to spend money," he said.

And the 18-to-20 crowd is priceless - despite such high-profile tragedies as the murder of 19-year-old Jennifer Moore after she partied at Guest House on wild West 27th Street.

"If you can get a bunch of cute 20-year-olds, you take them," said one veteran promoter who works 27th Street and spoke on condition of anonymity. "No one will check their IDs and everyone's happy."

A Post reporter who responded to an online ad recruiting club promoters was met by a college-aged entrepreneur who told her to target underage girls for upcoming events.

"If they're hot, we'll get them in," he said.

Promoters often hire young, attractive college-age clubbers to recruit hot bodies on campus, explained promoter Shawn Rose, 27.

A 19-year-old clubgoer said promoters sometimes go further by gathering underagers at a meeting point and escorting them into a club to help them bypass security.

On Friday, the Post watched just such an arrangement in action, as a promoter swept two young girls past ID scanners and into BED.

"These promoters are my best of friends now, but it's not like they're naive about underagers," the 19-year-old said. "They know it and they like that we're young."

Promoters usually host their own parties at nightclubs, pocketing 100 percent of the cover charges at the door and a percentage of drink sales.

Promoters are well aware that West 27th Street - and clubs all over Manhattan - are under scrutiny.

"The clubs are scared s- - -less," said promoter Johnny Premier, who runs premierlistnyc.com and holds parties at Spy and BED in Chelsea. "I have thousands of 18 to 20 year olds looking for parties. It's a market that's not being served."

I wish these underage chicks would stick to underage parties like I did when I was younger...that one incident is making clubbing suck for everyone.

The sad thing is everyone is blaming the clubs.. Not the monster who did this to her or i hate to say it a naive young girl.. no matter how safe they say the city is its still NYC.. And a young woman walking alone around 12 ave no matter what the time is dangerous.. Remember 10 years ago getting out of clubs in that area with all the pimps and hookers around.. Now that shit was dangerous.. This is politicans looking for a scape goat instead of telling the truth

As much as certain clubs and certain gentlemen enjoy underage chicks in the clubs, it's the underage chicks (the ones that are careless messy alcoholic drinkers) that are damaging the club industry (along with the gun/violence & drug use), which is allowing the city to enforce stricter liquor cabaret licenses and the shortening of club hours. I can't believe the door people/bouncers at these clubs are allowing this when they are jeopardizing their club as well as the others to have some pretty young things hanging around. This is just the beginning of the Club Crackdown, if these certain clubs keep turning their backs on this issue. Be prepared......

no i think its far more then the underage chick, they could care less about that they are just using this as an excuse to close down every clubs in the city, and like i said in another thread if this keeps goin i think there should be massive protests against this! Cops are doin everythin now to shut down and regulate all the enjoyable places NYC has to offer i mean i been hearin too many times these days that clubs are being shutdown for the night right around 3-4 am, that alone should prove that those idiot scumbag politicians are behind this!!!!

this video here might be an extreme example of what im talkin about but it raises some good questions... YouTube - Martial Law Police state

This is very similar to a point I made in another thread. Politicians and the NYPD have no choice but to crack down after a white girl from the suburbs got murdered after leaving a club that should not have allowed her in or allowed her to drink. If people would act responsibly in the first place this wouldn't have to happen. Of course it is much easier to blame the cops or the politicians, but at some point clubbers need to take personal responsibility and realize that it's often the choices they make themselves that are making the clubs look bad.

true but at the same time they make such a big deal about the whole alcohol issue, ur allowed to go to war at 18, but you can't drink at a bar or a club if your under 21.... gimme a fuckin break, they shouldnt have to rely on just one incident, where as there were already so many bad and worst cases that have happened in the clubs. You have to realize in a big city like New York these sort of things happen and are usually taken care of but that doesnt mean they have to shut a place down, so why would this case be any different all of a sudden??

thats ur answer right there... all the 18-20 clubs are pretty much done so thats why underage girls are running to places like this...that and the fact that they wanna show that they party with the older crowd..

the politicians and cops also have people to answer to. in the case of a lot of the neighborhoods where clubs are, you have the real estate interest as well as the financial and political clout of the well-heeled residents who live there. think back to Vinyl on Hubert St. For years the space was available until finally it was bought, to be converted into multi-million dollar condos. The crackdown on clubs is but one facet of a city that is slowly changing over the years to be more palatable to monied interests and the often more conservative or suburban mentality that goes along with it.

get some money-making young club-loving people into the political process or with some leverage in community affairs and things would change. it's also an election year and things always get a little loony during those times.

basically there are two masters here: the people who live here and have money who want their real estate values to keep going up, and the tourism/nightlife industries and the tons of money they keep flowing into the city. what we are seeing now is whoever (cops, politicians) trying to toe the line and keep both parties happy. i'd really love to know who (police captain, politician, real estate mogul?) ordered the greater scrutiny on clubs we're seeing now.

I agree with you. Back 10 years ago virtually all (good) clubs were 18 and over. That age group has no where to go anymore, so instead of a club just giving someone who is 20 years old an armband to go inside and dance, now you're getting the same person at the same age who has to either get a fake id or find another way to sneak in and once they finally are inside, they can also drink alcohol.

I don't Know why oh why.. People get so caught up and try to act surprised at this "under age" girls getting in the club. i mean really.. I remeber when everyclub in the city was 18 to party 21 to drink. I still have some of those old Palladium, Carbon, Metropolis flyers. One of you said it best, it has nothing to do with upholding the law or that quality of life BS those politicians are trying to feed us. It's About real estate these days. Those Big Willy Big Money Dudes want the spaces for luxury condos.... the club owners are making money and are not willing to sell... So they go to the nearest precint or assmebly man...Give them the iconic white envelope... and next thing you know...RAIIIID!...

The unfortunate event that happened to that young lady on 12th Ave. Made the news probably because her family is connected. i've been around for a long time and i've seen or heard stories like that many time. They never made the news cuz no one wanted to live in Chelsea or the Meatpacking district or Tribecca even. To the NYPost, report on real news... like Why the fuck is the subway fare going up again when i have to wait an hour on sunday morning, to get back to Brooklyn after i'm tired from dancing.lol

Let the Children PLay!!!!

People don't know how to act anymore.

When you got into a place underage, you acted correct, because you knew it was a privilege...You were in a place of older people, you didn't want to draw attention to yourself, nor wear out your welcome.

Now the kids take it for granted. They go out, get bombed, and make stupid decisions. And we have the current state.

Will it ever go back to how it was? Probably not. It's not any club in particular's fault...it's the stupid ass kids who are incapable of wiping their own ass without their parent's help.

the article mentions nothing about pacha, i think their track record of running JP parties without a hitch, and crobar cant even handle 1 monthly party let alone two (boris and victor).

but does mention crobar and home. mark my words, crobar is shut before years end.

Having been in the clubbing scene for almost 15 years now, I agree with what the Mod had to say as I did take it as a privilege when I would go out back in the day. I had a blast, would have the occasional underage drink, however knew how to handle it and would not act like an arse. Teens these days in clubs have little if no responsibly, half the time are f-d up by the time they get there, proceed to get in underage and then continue to feed their still growing bodies with drugs and alcohol and then do not know how to handle and/or control themselves. I also feel that the pressure does need to come down hard on these clubs as the main concern on their end is as we all know is $$$. Why oh why do they need to charge $40 as well as the sliding scale depending on the mood of the door bouncers to hear a DJ. I mean come on now, $6 for H20, $8 for Red Bull, hand over fist it comes in, so do ticket prices need to be that high? The other thing that has really been grating on my nerves, specifically about Crobar, not that I go there often (only for certain DJ's that only play occasionally in NYC) is the fact that the drugs in that place run WILD. I know we are not suppose to smoke cigs in any public place, but I mean I cannot smoke a cig, but people can do bumps of god knows what on speakers, platforms, etc. in plain site of bouncers and that is acceptable?? I was there for Victor at his last Evolve party and a haggard lookin women showed up (queue the crystal queen music) and I just knew she was loaded with the goods and sho nuff, it was like the cotton candy cart had arrived at the amusement park, they literally, literally were lined up for bumps, got bump, did bump, wipe nose, magically, instantly the best dancer in Crobar, this was all in plain site of two bouncers. The children could not of been happier as was she and her man she was with. I saw the look on her face at one point and it was like she was at a flea market and she had just opened up her car trunk and she was cleaned out of all her stuff before she was even done unpacking the car. The time before that, I was at the bar as I was ordering a drink and this guy had a Ziploc bag and I asked him what he had (as a joke, knowing what it was) and like they were tic-tacs he just flung the bag towards me and asked me if I wanted to pick my own out, I laughed at him and said that I was fine. It is this blatantness in clubs that has really gotten IMHO out of hand, back in the day, it was behind the scenes so to speak, we all knew where it was if we wanted it, but I mean standing at a bar with a Ziploc bag in tow is a lil too much and this is all contributing to what is going on to our clubland. I never recall so many drugged out people in the clubs, then again, a girl named Tina was not hangin around much then either, it is just sad, we use to be able to go out, look over at each other and know that the vibe was flowing and we all were in the moment, now I have to worry about pissing off some person who is moody b/c they have too many drugs in their system or they got too drunk. Sad.........but maybe one day it will change and people will realize that drugs aren't what make the party it is the MUSIC!!!! Thanks for letting me rant....

P.S. If we all stopped going to the clubs, what would the club management and the city do then, both would lose a bundle of money. Even for one night, if we all protested even against the clubs, I think it would be great to let them know that we are not going to be treated like cattle.......but then again, who in their right mind could go a night without house music, but it would be interesting.
