Opinions on allstar weekend

What did everyone think? Good? Bad? How were the clubs? Any interesting stories from some of the big names or players in town? Interested to hear what went on

My girlfriend does cocktails at Mandalay and from that point of view, there was nothing but bad things to say about the weekend and rude/low class people in the hotel and casino. I was up there Saturday - and the way I saw some of these girls treated was god awful. Verbal and physical sexual harassment, constant degrading and name calling, threats and near physical activity for not serving drinks even if they weren't gambling, one of the waitresses was assaulted by a male customer - not good stuff.

I'm hoping there are a few good stories out there to go along with the bad - Its a shame that what should have been such a positive for the city didn't turn out so well IMO.

My experiences were the exact opposite. The staff at OPM received record tips, records bottle sales, record covers and record turnouts for four straight nights. And not one incident to report.

I did, however, hear stories describing how many people in the service industry found it challenging to "service that crowd."

I've always said it. Many people fear what they don't understand. Most of the local club industry knows how to service the Paris Hilton fans of the world. However, it's an often misunderstood scenario when servicing the "Lil Scrappy" crowd!

On top of that, communications can be misunderstood, especially coming from the "ballers" crowd. Many come off as rude, when in fact all they really want is to be treated like a VIP. Those people are willing to hook up the staff who understand their preferred elevated level of service.

And of course, respect is a big thing. The initial communication may come off as a little sharp around the edges, however it's really a test, and anyone who can pass that test enjoy a profitable situation right away.

I was really wanting to hear your feedback b/c I figured who would know better than MW - especially in a club atmosphere. I imagine things were nutz and your club and it was probably one of the best weekends you could possibly have. I think those who were in town to spend $$ and have a good time did so w/ respect and class. It was those who weren't willing to dish out a little extra (for that rare experience to party with the superstars) that were the problems.

From what I witnessed outside the clubs, so many people expected free drinks in the casinos whether they were gambling or not, something the girls can get in trouble over. Either that or someone playing would try to order drinks for themselves and 8 other people. And when you tried to explain that to people that you can't do that- watch out - they were ready to chase you down and fight or degrade the people (in this case waitresses) until they were ready to cry or take a sick out and leave for the night. Most of these people outside the clubs wanted to be treated like a VIP - not even willing to give up a single dollar for a tip or ask nicely for something they wanted for free.

Its good to hear positive things happened in the clubs though - I would hope that people were there to have a good time, spend $, and spread a positive vibe. Who were some of the big names that passed through OPM?? I would imagine there were a TON

A lot of what I have been hearing is that there was a very low class crowd here in town this past weekend. I was listening to ESPN Radio today, and a guy called in to talk about his weekend. He is a server at a restaurant on the Strip, and they had 41 skipped checks this weekend. I could never even fathom skipping out on paying a check at a restaurant, but apparently I was raised differently than a good number of the people who were here this past weekend.

Almost all of the callers today, and there were a lot of them, were overwhelmingly negative. There were some positive calls as well, but those were few and far between.

Also, there was a good amount of violence on the Strip this weekend, well above and beyond a normal weekend. I can do without that, and I am sure Metro can too.

You should have told your gf to give out hand jobs while serving cocktails. She would have made a killing in tips.

Sorry but that sounds to me like a crock. Besides if that was really true, you'd think the restaurant would know some steps to avoid that.

You can believe whatever you want. Between believing you and believing the server, I'll go with the server. I think everyone else will as well. Perhaps you've come up with some tactics to prevent this that the Food and Beverage and security departments at the casinos haven't thought of yet.

The only basis you have for doubting that is that you, for some reason, don't want to believe it. That doesn't make it any less true though.

Your right - she probably would have - but I figured with your mother in town whoring herself out all weekend to the all ballers and NBA crowd that the $$ probably wouldn't be as good. Can't even fathom how much her holes were stretched out when she finally came back home to Jersey - that plane ride must have been a bitch!

U going to Miami next month?

Nope. I am thinking WMC was a one-time deal for me. There are so many other trips I would like to make, and Miami, to me, is getting beyond the point of diminishing returns with how much it costs these days. I hope you have a great time if you go though.

Believing me? I wasn't even there. But you're basing your perception of the truth on a call to a radio show. Either way, like I said before, the group of people who patronized my spot, tipped well, acted respectfully and spent a lot. Sorry if other people experienced a lower crowd.

You get a sanitized version of the All-Star crowd because your bouncers and doormen keep the scumbags out. A lot of restaurants don't do that, so they get every worthless piece of shit who was in town for the weekend. That's where the difference is.

I arrived Monday after the All-Star crowd was headed out.

It started with the limo ride from the airport. The guy telling us how aweful the crowd was. Low quality peopel not tipping, skipping checks how a bar fight went down at Tryst and how some guy got shot in the MGM garage in the hip but would not press charges.

At the hotel one of the dealers was describing to our black jack table how the crowd was vulger, rude and degrading and rowdy.

Several cab rides where cabbies all brought it up and talked about how some people hung out on the streets all night because they showed up with no money to start with. No tips, skipped fares etc.

One guy described it as Vegas's worst weekend ever.

This is not my opinion just what I heard ...nobody had a good thing to say at all.

Aside from the shooting at Mynxx that killed someone adn injured 2 others... the hit and run that killed a lady, Empire getting 2 bouncers put in the hospital, Young Buck and The Game brawling, According to CNN the Icehouse got shut down on that sat for fights, a cop every 20 feet on the strip, the other numerous shootings and fights, and David Stern saying "never again", I would say the positive was ummmm... The jersey looked cool on the statue of liberty?!!?

I even found bullet shells in front of the forum shops a few days after. The bar manager at the icehouse told me she made more on tips 1 normal weekend day then she made the whole all star weekend.

I did not hear from any locals that had anything good to say about the weekend, except the ones that were happy nothing happen to them.
