MUZIK MAGAZINE DANCE AWARDS 2001

The nominations for the Muzik Magazine Dance Awards 2001 - the dance industry's

Oscars - were announced this Saturday in Ibiza.

Number one DJ Fatboy Slim scooped three nominations for the awards, due to take

place on October 11 at Planit Arches, Bishopsgate Viaduct in London. French

combos Air and Daft Punk also netted three nominations apiece. Also set to do

well are US rapster Missy Elliot, dance dons The Chemical Brothers and Damon

Albarn's zombie hip-hop outfit Gorillaz who are nominated in the Best New Artist

category. The full nominations are listed below and the star-studded bash will

be hosted once again by Radio 1's Pete Tong.

On Wednesday August 8th, Muzik will kickstart a midweek monthly affair at AKA,

West Central Street (8pm-3am, Free), whilst also celebrating the launch of the

MMDA 2001! The new residency will boast Bedroom Bedlam DJ competition winners

and secret superstar guests each month.

Join last year's Bedroom Bedlam winner Steve Gerrard plus Alison Marks, Roberto

Marroni and Dr Rubberfunk for the first instalment, check out the new issue of

Muzik and cast your votes for the MMDAs 2201.

If you can't make the party, music lovers and dance fanatics can vote using the

form in the September issue of Muzik, via Radio 1's website or in Virgin stores.

Tickets for the event will be on sale via the Way Ahead box office (0115 912

9161 or www.wayahead.com/muzik or http://microsites.nme.com/muzikawards2001).
