I think she is very attractive, but if she is shorter than 5'8", I dont see her getting a contract with a top ten agency. Almost every agency in NYC has open calls at a specific hour in the day. I disagree, the two best agencies in nyc based on client representation are IMG and Next. They represent the highest paid and highest profile models. I dont work for one, but I love fashion and would like to work for an agency at some point. Also a few of my friends are models. My advice would be dont do anything that has you pay for a portfolio, or for their services. If a girl is right for a specific agency, you dont need to pay someone to help you get the job. Most agencies will ask for a head shot, and a full body shot, some prefer black and white. Like I said before, every agency has an open call for about an hour once a week, or daily. Honestly, you dont even need to spend a fortune on a portfolio just to bring to an interview, unless you have done noteable previous work. If they agent really likes you, then they will pay for your portfolio. Its much more simple than people think. You dont need to pay one of these "model scout" agencies to advertise your pictures, when you can go to the real agency your self and make a good impression in person. And tell your friend to wear very little makeup, if any at all, when she goes to the open call. All of the legitamate agencies recommend that. pkern Posted October 23 Report Share Posted October 23 Okay - I hate to be a downer here, but when it comes to this topic...I modeled for a short time and my advice is to have your friend go to college, eat lots of food, get a kick-ass education and live her life. The modeling business is awful - it treats women like product or commodity and sexualizes them WAY before it's appropriate to do so (that is, if it's ever appropriate...). Not to mention the skewed vision of beauty it perpetuates, or the eating disorder epidemic rampant throughout the industry (and young girls in general), or the exceptionally high levels of depression and drug use among models. Trust me, don't believe the airbrushed E! channel bullshit - it's a crap industry that borders on prostitution. I'm sure your friend has many more beautiful features than a 23 inch waist. And I'm sure she has talents and interests that would make her far happier in the long run. Don't do it - trust me! It's a nasty, nasty world and no place for a lady. Waste of time, if she does not get work within a couple months, they get tired of you and throw you out the door especially for girls. In terms of that EModels i would not advise it. The usual height for a girl is about 5'9", and usually more. Unless she has a great look. I still have a bunch of friends who still do it. The way the economy has been hit, even modeling has taken a toll. My girlfriend was with Karin and now had to go to Q models because they were cutting down on the models. Let me see what agencies she can go to. I use to be with Next and they are real good and strong for women as well. Q is good, NY Models, T management, trumps agency, Marilyn, IMG, DNA, there are others if you need more ask me. Couple other words of advise, even if they have no open call, tell your friend to go to the agency and pretend she does not know and ask when it is, yo have a greater chance of getting picked then sending pictures. If she goes in and they like her they will make an exception. If you give me more details I could you what her chances are.If you need anything else, ill help out, i use to work at this company when i was modeling to help out potentials with their portfolio, which by the way do tell her not to waste money on professional pics...
