  1. Basically, as far as dealing with a job on Monday goes, coffee (cup after cup) and ephedrine can be miraculous. Admittedly though, Monday can be really unpleasant, particularly the contrast of a drab office environment with an exhilarating club weekend. Depressing! Another trick is to sleep from like 11-4:30A.M., and hit after hours around 5 or 5:30 sunday morning with some rest under your belt. This really isn't so bad, since you save yourself a lot of wasted time waiting for the dance floor to open up. I did this for S&D this weekend with a friend of mine from San Diego. He's a big surfer and was used to getting up early to catch waves, so he loved the whole idea.
  2. I work as a pricing analyst for a securities firm in greenwich. financial modeling of mortgage backed securities, etc.

  4. Anyone have an opinion on how much S & D make for one night at Twilo? This guy was I was talking to this weekend told me $20K each ?!?! Sounds way too high to me... Before that, the most I've heard anyone say a top DJ got was $10K for a night...
  5. yup, jonathan was spinning. his sets meander a bit, and whether you enjoy the music depends on what time you are there. I thought it was good between 9AM and 11AM, he seemed like his normal self then. But, I thought the early morning hours 5-7 were kind of weak. If you go to SF a lot, its easy to start getting picky. In general i think he gets better when the crowd starts to thin and dance space opens up
  6. when people take "this alcohol", they go nuts and you just can't control them. It causes liver damage, kidney damage, brain damage, heart damage, obesity and cancer. People become wild maniacs and often engage in deadly violence when under its use. In addition, its effects are so devastating on women due to their lighter bodyweight that it can induce a deep sleep, giving it a well deserved reputation as a "date-rape" drug. It also has been linked to over 50% of auto fatalities. Therefore, it logically follows that we should glorify this drug and pretend like it has none of these shortcomings, presenting it with a monopoly as the only legal mind altering substance. In addition, we should take drugs which have a tenth of these negative consequences and make possessing them as criminal an offense as armed robbery. Makes perfect sense to me.

  8. I stayed til the end, I think it was 10:15 or so, and I would say it was well worth it. I love when space opens up on the floor, and I felt that in that last hour or hour and a half the remaining crowd had a ton of energy. I thought it was nice having the new DJ booth in the middle of the floor like that too, so that you can see S&D reacting to the music they play. Of course, it probably makes the crowding problems worse by cutting off a passageway from one side to the other, but like you said, if you wait long enough things open up.
  9. jennysweet, First off, let me say that its refreshing to learn that people pursuing/possessing MBA's are reading the club board. I doubt most of the people I went to Wharton with would look away from their Bloomberg terminals long enough to end up posting something here. Anyway, I believe that both Columbia and Stern are great schools. As was said earlier, Stern has a better reputation in finance. However, an argument could be made that Columbia has more name recognition to a wider range of employers. Why? Because the business school uses the same name as an elite undergraduate institution, which will be recognizable to firms that don't typically hire MBA's. Will a financial firm recognize and respect the Stern name? Absolutely. Will a small startup in the Northwest US? Maybe, maybe not. In the end though, these issues matter far less than the amount of focus you have when you begin your masters program. This is not to say that you should have your entire life mapped out when you begin. However, by the time you start interviewing, you will do a lot better (and feel a lot saner) if you focus your attention on a narrow range of positions. When you begin your program, you will have a lot less spare time than you would like to research all the different companies and positions out there, so you should try to learn a lot about your career goals before going. My point is that the important question is not where will you do your MBA, but when and why. Once you can definitively answer this, you will probably make a better decision when choosing a school. One final thought... you should consider each program's academic structure in your decision too. Some programs use a lot of case-based learning in their classes. Harvard, for example, is exclusively case based. For quantitative classes, I never thought that made much sense. Some programs (Wharton for example) have student body policies that prevent employers from asking about grades. In hiring, this favors students with prior experience in their chosen field, since employers have no other tangible means to distinguish between candidates. If you have an opinion on these types of policies, you should weigh that into your decision... oops, i guess i've started rambling a bit here. my main point is that any top school will be beneficial to you, but by carefully defining what you want from an MBA, you can select the school that you will be happiest at professionally and academically.

  11. I always take Ripped Fuel when I go out. The best is to take 2 before going in, and then keep 2 to take later in the club if you start to wind down. For attaining additional endurance, I find the ephedrine/caffeine combination equals the nonlegal stuff in effectiveness. The one bad side effect of Ripped Fuel is that since it is a diuretic, it will really make you need to pee. Make sure you go to the bathroom before you go out if you are going to take it. A long line in the bathroom can be catastrophic otherwise.

  13. I just read the other replies... I got a different impression about the helpfulness of bringing girls there for S & D. However, the last time I went was the end of May. Maybe they've gotten tougher. I know the times I've been to Twilo there always seem to be plenty of people in raver pants/sneakers/baggy jeans etc.
  14. Depends what night you are going to Twilo. Friday night there is no dress code. For Sasha and Digweed there is usually a disastrously long line though. Last time I went at 2:00 A.M. and the line was all the way to 10th Ave. It looked like it would take an hour to get in. I gave up and returned at 5A.M. and had no wait. Unlike other clubs, you don't have to bring girls, nor will doing so cut your wait time significantly. Saturday night there isn't a dress code either. But with Junior Vasquez spinning, you may have a hard time getting girls in because it's supposed to be a gay night. Lines tend to be shorter. Hope that helps
