  1. There are plenty of them around. In fact, they're a dime a dozen, especially at certain spots throughout the 5 boroughs, as well as LI.
  2. Umm...nah. But come and enjoy a great night! We'll do some shots.
  3. Bangers galore. God this shit is going to be wicked. So many people sleep on LI....
  4. Word. I know we've most likely seen each other on many occasions since the old Commack spot.
  5. I hear you, Tek. It's been a while since I've pulled an all-nighter and then gone straight to work like that. To be honest, I don't even know if I could handle it anymore, lol.
  6. Who's ready to pay homage to L.I. old school this Friday night? Razor v. Rob James - a 12 round bout (no TKO's) These two are going to cause some fuckin mayhem on the dancefloor when they go set for set. I can't wait to feel the bass....I've been waiting all week to get open! Matt, have the paramedics waiting outside this Friday night. There will be casualties, because shit is about to get HECTIC.
  7. I don't know that anyone's debating your opinion, specifically, or undermining its simplicity in any way. I think the majority of heads on LI all concur that the EDM scene out here has been stagnant for quite some time. However, there have been many strides to move beyond and rise above the current state of LI nightlife, more recently within the last year, and my opinion (and the opinions of many others) have simply been in support of making such strides.
  8. I agree. There are those who complain endlessly while quality parties are going on right under their noses; they just never really bother to look into them or do their homework beyond what's advertised or spoken of. Then there are those who criticize the few quality parties on the Island as being nothing more half-assed attempts that will never go anywhere. In my opinion, people like that don't even deserve the right to bitch, because while they're bitching, there are people out there trying to add to LI's scene. You can either complain and make general, stereotypical comments about Long Island, or you can help in whatever little way you can to add to the scene and change it in little ways by showing support for quality parties. There used to be people all over clubnyc back in the day who criticized the shit out of LI as if it were some desolate shit hole with no parties. Meanwhile, during that time, Long Island had some of the nastiest afterhours venues that rivaled - and were, in many cases, much better than - some of the most infamous NYC nightclubs/parties, including the Tunnel. Whether the scene in Long Island can ever be revived to what it was remains to be seen, but Long Island's not-so-distant nightlife history has has certainly proven that LI is capable of holding shit down musically, and having quality parties.
  9. Long Island, like Manhattan, has its mainstream popular nightlife culture, and it also has its more hidden, underground, intimate nightlife culture (which is much more rare here than it is in NYC). You can always find the latter as long as you stay in touch with the right people and the right music. Fuck everything else, and come to Nation. This Friday will not be a dissapointment. Other parties serve their limited purposes, but if you want to shade out into a darker vibe, and escape the usual LI vibe & music, Nation is the perfect spot.
  10. Straight up house music crowd; no wannabees. The party is the best on the Island, hands down, with talent that rivals much of the talent in the city at this moment. Place draws a nice, intimate crowd, and the party usually lasts until 5:30 or so. The crew throwing the party is also one of the most respectful and hospitable. 21+ strictly house No dress code Email Matt at SanctuaryLI@yahoo.com for guestlist info My sig explains the events coming up this Friday, and for you old school house heads who live on Long Island, it will be a real treat - LI's own veteran djs Razor & Rob James going head to head in an all out free for all. Razor's reputation precedes him, and his solo work, as well as his work with his former studio partner, Guido, has included tracks / remixes like: "Do it Again," "The Buildup," "Follow Me," "Brain on X," "Did it again," "Don't look behind you," "Weep," "Muzik," and many many other hits that have defined the early clubbing experiences of many heads on this board. He's rocked the house at many spots throughout NY, like Vanderbilt, Juniorverse @ Twilo, Roxy, and Discotheque. Rob's work includes tracks like "Amsterdam," remix of Trancesetter's "Roaches," "Dolphins," "I'm Rick James," and just recently, the remix of "Dirty House Beats" (which you'll most definitely hear this Friday!). He's held shit down as the resident dj at spots like Sound Factory Fridays (w/ Frankie Knuckles and many others), Freedom Afterhours (one of the last real afterhours parties on LI), Hefrons Aferhours, Amsterdam, and currently, Nation. Both djs have rocked NY for years, so this should be a real treat.
  11. You missed such an awesome party last Friday at Nation!!! I hope it was worth it!
  12. Disk, go there and get annihilated.
  13. Werd. Boris definitely tore the place a new ass. The system was abused all night.
  14. .....you guys really generated some serious energy in that place, and you all helped to create an incredible atmosphere. I'm glad to see that so many local house fanatics are feeling this party. There are so many of us out here on the Island, and rather than run out west every weekend to empty our pockets and deal with bullshit, we can really lend our efforts to help make this party a maintstay on the Island. Thanks to all of you. Also, incredible music throughout the night by Deniz and Boris. Next week, the battle ensues when LI's own house music veterans, Dj Razor and Dj Rob James, go head to head in an all out battle.
  15. The fight for LI - a 12 round event.
  16. The spot sucked badly the night or the reopening. Inadequate ventilation, shitty sounding system, horrible mixture of music.
  17. I reserve judgment on the majority of the original post that was made in this thread. However, the one thing I have to say is that one's musical tastes don't necessarily suck, and aren't necessarily limited simply because one clubs strictly within NY. I am sick of reading people write absolute garbage about how NY is somehow left in the dark or lagging behind becuase of the musical tastes within its borders. NY has its own flavor, and I don't consider this city to be less enlightened than any other city in this world. Trance and other variants thereof may be the norm throughout Europe, but personally, I don't give a rat's ass. I love and deeply respect the roots of house music and EDM in NY, and what's popular or respected abroad has no impact on that love. NY is about dance music, plain and simple. Ny is about some of the funkiest beats and rhythms, and it has a soulfulness and flavor of its own. Any individual who thinks clubbing around the world or listening to International talent somehow makes him/her a more enlightened, renowned, emancipated EDM fan is a moron, and doesn't know shit. The popularity of other genres of EDM abroad may be an undeniable fact, but it certainly doesn't mean that the styles throughout NY are limited or unevolved. Granted, a considerable majority of house, trance, and techno throughout NY makes its way here from overseas. However, I'll tell you right now, there are at least a dozen NY-based djs who produce and spin music right here in NY that I prefer any day of the year over some of the garbage that's produced and spun by talent overseas. I love NY, its style, its flavor, its vibe, its history, and its talent, and worldwide and/or European EDM and the djs who spin it, regardless of how respected they may be abroad, mean jack shit to me in the overall scheme of things, and that hardly makes me some obtuse clubber who doesn't know good music. I highly respect and admire some of the overseas music that influences our domestic productions and fills our streets here in NY. However, beyond that, we have some of the nastiest parties with some of the craziest domestic music right here in our own backyard - plain and simple. Fuck overseas. Nueva York is my stomping ground, and musically, it's never taken, nor will it ever take, a back seat to any other city in this world. As for NickyNY's original post being filled with detail and no nonsense - that's bullshit as well. NickyNY, your original post in this thread may have had some considerable merit if it didn't go off on an ignorant tangeant about the "supremacy of overseas music / talent" Please, save that useless bullshit. Your post doesn't own shit.
  18. Well, let's get the troops in gear and get ready for a crazy Friday night. Let's enjoy a phat night and close this puppy out. Dj Boris is in the house, and he'll keep us all on the floor until the end. Vaughn, hit me up if you want to meet up beforehand. Matt, same goes for you too (and also for anyone else who wants to meet up). Hit me up narwun@optonline.net
  19. I don't know if I've ever seen that one, but this video contains footage of some guy riding what was supposedly an early Hurricane Ivan wave. The footage was shot pretty far off the coast, so at first, it's hard to tell how big the wave is. The wave turns out to be pretty big: http://www.big-boys.com/articles/hurricaneivan.html
  20. Disco, you need to stop by the new Nation party. It's nice. Hit me up!
  21. Ny, your sig came up on the computer at my job today, and my supervisor was like, "What are you reading?" I explained what it was, but I doubt he believed me.
  22. I hear you. Well, whatever you decide to do, be safe and have fun.
  23. Come to Nation on Friday. Better time; better music. No Dress code. 21+ and strictly house.
  24. 21+ strictly house no dress code 15$ without guestlist; 10$ with guestlist Email Matt at SanctuaryLI@yahoo.com to be placed on the list This Friday night, Crobar's own Dj Boris will be lighting things up nicely. Come on by - you'll definitely enjoy yourself.
