NICE!!! thats what i was looking for really, or moreso the work as a whole, how it fits to the film itself. having seen the original, many years past, it was hard to envision what he would do with it. obviously it was going to be minimal, but would it have direction and would it feel right. i had a gut feel that he would do something very nice with it. i think for mills, adding a facet to the electronic spectrum may be what he does best. kudos ------------------ don't act too cool because you might get shot...

b2b, this is what it's all about... Jeff Mills Metropolis (sdtk.) [Tresor Records] This is Mills first album since his release of Waveform Transmission Vol. 3 in `94, also on Tresor Records. The Detroit pioneer was so inspired by the 1926 masterpiece by German filmmaker Fritz Lang that he wanted to update the film with contemporary soundtrack. The original film version was released in 1928 (the original 1926 black and white no longer exists) and is a story that takes place in the year 2026, 100 years after the movie’s release. In the movie, Lang shows how beautiful the city of Metropolis is with its suspended streets and futuristic zig-zagging buildings. Lang also alludes to the horror of this modern city being cold and crowded with underground workers running machines, which keeps Metropolis alive. The album is not the hard beat techno anthems you would expect of Jeff Mills, but rather a smooth futuristic acid sound, giving out a similar tone to early Kraftwerk tracks, with just pure techno. It defines the movie well, with such tracks "Robot Replica" and "They Who Lay Beneath", my personal favorites. --Shareef Ben Dahlan gonzo, i didnt expect bangin techno, the film is a masterpiece and the idea itself is quite an undertaking from mills, IMO it was quite a risk for himself as an artist. i will appreciate the effort regardless. be cool ------------------ don't act too cool because you might get shot...

it's funny that you mention this, and yes i will disregard your wishes and post my own worthless opinion about it. i too agree, or have a funny feeling that Danny is the heir apparant to juniors throne, if you will. i do not however feel it will happen in the manner you predict, if Danny does move into saturday nights at twilo it will be at the grace and leisure of junior herself. i doubt highly they will throw that bitch to the curb, regardless of whether or not she deserves it. it just has that feel to it, after all that bad blood, the smoke has cleared and there stands danny with his smile and flashlight, and his silly hats, not to mention the skills and talents of a genius, working that system like nobody but junior herself perhaps has rivaled. i don't know what the normal saturday attendance is like these days but i suppose throwing junior out is not beyond the possibilities of the greed mongers that run that joint. we shall see ------------------ don't act too cool because you might get shot...

are you familiar at all with the theory about "EQ"?? EQ means emotional quotient, and... (there was an excellent article in the times magazine several years back that turned me onto this)... in a nutshell, it explains that a simple IQ test is not a sufficient judge of a persons intelligence entirely, and that the way people feel and interpret their own and others emotions should also be included in a true measure of a persons knowledge (if you will) as a whole. essentially it's a matter of perception. i'll drop you the title of the book i read on this theory a while back, it's interesting and relative to what you're asking here. be cool ------------------ don't act too cool because you might get shot...

definately a night for the history books, was everything i expected it to be and then some. i had no doubts these two were gonna get along famously on the decks, and since i've been waiting for this for over a year, my expectations were met. too many sweaty-ass shaved arms scratchin up on me for my liking, but generally the crowd was excellent. saw a lot of heads from vinyl and met some really great people. side note, whoever the guy was spinning minimal techno in the bathroom, much love to him, the contrast was perfect! until next time ------------------ don't act too cool because you might get shot...

for me it's a matter of two things... the first being that Armand is not the most reliable of personalities, several months ago, probably six, he was slated to play the roxy and no showed. the second reason has everything to do with saturday night, for me it's one or the other these days and not both, so danny & diggs it is. i think Armand is fucking great, and i was told im comped for this night, but im still not hittin it. at this point though, i would take Armand over PVD any day... i expect a full review though! ------------------ don't act too cool because you might get shot...
