  1. ...and there are plenty of DJs who are still getting work as well. Maybe it's your attitude that is holding you back. For instance, I've done a party for almost three years at Filter 14 employing ONLY NYC DJs. For my Plexi parties I never relied on the DJs to bring the party people, that was my job. But I'd also never work with DJs who sported such attitude or hated on the scene - no matter how bad things got. And I know things have gotten pretty bad over the last couple of years, but they are getting better. Over the last couple of months and coming months, we've had plenty of NYC DJs at Avalon, Filter 14, Spirit, Centro-Fly, Arc and CroBar coming up shortly and none of them were "whack ass." Too bad they just didn't include you. Sorry but it sounds like it's just hard to swallow the bitter pill.

  3. SANDRA COLLINS BRAD COPELAND @ AVALAND SATURDAYS – December 13th DanceStar’s 2003 Best US DJ SANDRA COLLINS makes a special appearance at Avaland. With over 13+ years of experience, Sandra has risen to the superstar DJ level and is often regarded as the “goddess of trance†but never limits her sound to such. She creates a seamless landscape of sound and sets the mood for an explosive full-on-night. From her early days as a rave DJ on the west coast, Sandra has went on to tour the world and released albums on the best labels including “Tranceport 3†on Kinetic inaugurated by Paul Oakenfold and she was the first American and only female DJ featured on the Cream compilation mix series. Ever the prolific artist, Sandra will release her next mixed CD on the “Perfecto Presents…†series next month, as well as star in “Girl,†a documentary about female DJs. BRAD COPELAND may be a new name & face to NYC but he is a young, rising star in the Canadian dance music scene. His residency at after-hours club Stereo in Montreal, his impeccable mixing, his tough and pumping sound, and his energy as a performer has led many including; Sander Kleinenberg, Hybrid & Max Graham to all herald him as the “Best Undiscovered DJ†in DJ magazine’s Top 100 issue. Since Brad has played alongside such luminaries as Digweed & Tiesto, while helming a bi-monthly residency with Sander Kleinenberg and is currently on tour with Sandra Collins on her Perfecto tour and throughout the US & Canada, we gather he won’t be undiscovered for too long. www.sandracollins.com www.bradcopeland.ca AVALON 662 Sixth Avenue @ 20th Street 212.807.7780 Doors at 10pm $25 general admission $15 reduced list before 12am / $20 until 2am See Clubplanet Guestlist
  4. There's an actual Manhanttan Portage store on East 9th Street between Avenue A & First. Also, Bag House on Broadway between 10th & 11th (I think?) has a nice selection.
  5. If you're going to judge a club by opening night, you really have no basis at all. This past Friday with Lawler @ Avalon was by far the best party yet. You say you went to Twilo. Well, Twilo only took about 6 years to reach its pinnacle. Get some perspective. Good riddance.

  11. 100% agreed. I am not "dissing" on complaints, rather I've asked people to send specific ones to me as well via PM. I was making a message board generalization, whether it's here, NAUGHTYBOOTH.com or the GU boards - everybody loves to complain. We've actually followed up on complaints from the board and are taking care of business to ensure a happy club experience. John62 - your points on clubland NYC are completely on point. I believe in all the things you are saying and now we're just trying to do them. Let's talk more offline. Check you PMs please.
  12. Amen! That's what message boards have turned into - a place to log all your complaints about every single detail about clubbing. Clubbing used to be so much simpler and FUN - you went, either had a good time or bad time with your friends, went home and then did it again. Now if you go have a good time, you post 10 posts, but if you have a bad time it's 100 posts and counting...

  15. From the artist who invented Mushroom Jazz comes the long anticipated debut artist album of all original material from MARK FARINA. Out now (Oct 7th) on OM Records, Air Farina is designed with a transcontinental flight concept and incorporates a variety of travel themes into Mark’s original productions. Joining Mark on his sonic travels are special guests Kaskade, People Under the Stairs, Sean Hayes and Lance Desardi. Known around the world for performing his two legendary DJ styles: instrumental hip-hop mixed with jazzy soul known as Mushroom Jazz and chunky funky Chicago style house sets found on his compilations San Francisco Sessions and Connect, Mark has been voted in the “Top DJ’s in the World†by BPM, DJ and MUZIK magazines. Consistently touring year round playing to over 300,000 club goers a year, it’s hard to believe someone so well traveled could have time to put together his own material. Recording under aliases Urban Backcountry and Bernal Boogie on his Mushroom Jazz series, it wasn’t until Connect that Mark made his debut material under his own name with the quirky club classic “Radioâ€. Mark explains, “The sound will be similar to the original tracks I added to my different compilations. I tried to include both tempos in my album giving it a little of my "mushroom" flavor and of course the weird Chicago/SF house goodiesâ€. “Radio†appears again on Air Farina as the new ‘Lost Baggage’ mix. Other highlights include “Dream Machine†featuring Sean Haynes on vocal and the album’s first single, “To Do†featuring Mark’s OM Records label-mate Kaskade. Track listing is as follows: 01. Take Off 02. Love Make’s 03. Layover 1 04. Betcha Do 05. Leaving SF (w/ Lance Desardi) 06. To Do (w/ Kaskade) 07. Talk To Me 08. Layover 2 09. Dream Machine feat. Sean Hayes) 10. Layover 3 11. Radio (Lost Baggage Mix) All tracks written, produced and arranged by Mark Farina, except “Dream Machineâ€: written by Sean Hayes, produced and arranged by Mark Farina "To Do": written, produced and arranged by Mark Farina and Kaskade "Leaving SF" written and arranged by Mark Farina, produced by Lance Desardi and Mark Farina
  16. Based on the line-up, Avalon is obviously committed to bringing in quality music for YOU - the music heads. All the complaints aside, Twilo was not built in a day or a couple weeks for that matter. Feedback is helpful but please be constructive. PM me with any specific complaints you might have (besides the ususal bitching about VIP - bottle service, 21+, etc). For those concerned about dress code, we're moving towards a flexible one. Although you can always buy your tix in advance (www.nextticketing.com) to avoid any hassle. Back in the day, the velvet rope policy was a lot stricter than it is now.
