  1. MEDUSA'S IN CHICAGO!!!! I was 17 (1990) and it was WONDERFUL. One of the few teen clubs I have ever seen where it was run like a 21+ club with underground music, and rooms for everyone! They had house in the main room, metal in the live band room, and new wave in the video room. Too bad Medusa's is gone. D-Jam
  2. "Shamu" by Vincent De Moor.
  3. It's ok. I never saw your question as negative, but I wanted to fully explain myself. For some odd reason, I end up having to explain myself every time I post a mix. Ah well. The next big one is The Young And The Restless, set to go off in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Look to Raverworld.com for updates and info. I'm already pumped. Xpander by Sasha is probably one of my all-time fave trance records. I even bought "Beautiful Strange" by Bedrock because one of the remixes sounded like Xpander.
  4. Well, I used to do my Top 20 totally based on personal tastes, but no one could relate to it. Most of my play time is at private affairs and house parties. The Top 20 is simply the 20 records that I have recently bought that everyone I play for is getting off on. I am not one of those DJs who runs to Gramaphone every Thursday and spends $50-$200 on vinyl, just to have the most current stuff. Number one, I can't afford it with rent and junk, and number two, I notice that a lot of the new records sound like the records I bought a week ago. I remember when trance blew up, I was buying records every week, but after a while, I noticed that the newest records sounded like the old records I had bought months ago. It became redundant. I also am not a person who will throw a record out simply because it is a few months old. If it sounds good, makes people dance and smile, then it is worth playing. This attitude I see someplaces where a record is not worth playing if it is a few weeks old is insane. This is why a lot of the newer records aren't "legendary" like the old school cuts. Heck, when I started spinning in 1992, people were still jamming records from 1988-1990 like they were new. In the case of "For An Angel", I had seen the video on Launch.com and fell in love with that record. I found it off Satelliterecords.com in July and took it immediately to a house party. Everyone went crazy for it and a lot more people asked me to make an MP3 of the tune, so I decided to make it a Top 20 pick. It probably won't be on the Top 20 next month though. As for the recent gig, that would be Club Eden. It was a mess. We got there and the management acted like he never knew who we were or that we were coming. It was shadey. He let us set up anyway, but the gear they had was horrible and we ended up calling it quits on Club Eden. We walked down the street to Droopy's house party and HAD A BLAST!!! If you want to talk old, I popped on "Allright" by Anon at that house party and the entire place went crazy. Goes to show that just because a record is not new does not mean it is not worth playing. How about you guys? Do you have any "slightly old" records you still like to pump? Even if someone walks up and says you are not "current"?
  5. WHOOPS!!!! You misunderstood! The MIX OF THE MONTH is all "deep house". What you are referring to as different styles is my top 20! The mix of the month is not the top 20! Sorry for the confusion.
  6. Glad to see you like PvD. I know the record is old, but I've been getting off on it lately with anyone that has been listening. As for the "Deep" thing, I am not even sure what to call the music I used in that mix. For the longest time, I was told it was all "deep house". Some tell me it's garage house, others just lump it as house. I pretty much needed to leave some sort of description of what's on that mix. So help me out here, what do you all call this?

  10. I think the big issue is the economy. Every day I'm watching Corporate America step all over the working man as he/she struggles to have a better life. Look at us. We can't have a family because we have to be able and willing to run all over the globe for the CEO. We need to go to through years of college and yet still end up struggling to get a job or stay away from the pink slips. We need to fix things because all the other factors in that poll will not go away if everyone is starving and struggling.
  11. What is that place? I've seen pics of it in magazine articles about other events. It's HUGE!
  12. Did you see the front page article on the Chicago Reader this week? They went into what's been happening at the Real World loft (which used to be Urbis Orbis). Personally, I hate the Real World and all the "reality" TV shows. In the case of the Real World, it is a show where 8 shallow and apathetic people are handed a beautiful loft and they spend their days gossipping and bitching about each other. In an area like Wicker Park, that does not fit with the community of artists and avant garde thinkers left there. I would think that they should have put the loft in Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, or Bucktown. As for the "fight", the normal fight is for something real as opposed to "marketed". The Real World is just a victim in all this and a target for all the people that hate the mentality of fashion and mainstream pop thinking. It's unfortunate, but as far as I am concerned, let them film their stupid show, sell it to Schaumburg, and Wicker Park will be the same as it was before Real World showed up. D-Jam
  13. For me, sex without love just is meaningless. After a while, you just feel more lonely and empty.

OK, I was wrong in saying that E is not a pop trend anymore. I only got that vibe from the fact that most of the "non-ravers/non-clubers" I knew who were popping E last year because they were at Crobar and dancing to trance have since given it up for alcohol. You're right, it has not vanished, but I do feel it has slowed down some, yet the police have gotten out of control with it. Check this out - http://www.riverfronttimes.com/issues/2001-07-25/radarstation.html Now that's the point where I wonder if we should rename this country "East Germany". D-Jam
  15. I picked up "BOLLOCKS" from Mixmag and Muzik. I keep saying "it's the bollocks" now.

No. I'm not doing this as an OS Magazine thing. It's more out of personal curiousity. As far as I am concerned, E is dead as a pop trend. I just wanted to see how many people are rolling and how often. There's no article coming out of this.

I'm not looking or replies so you can save face and identity, but I am just wondering what the E situation is here now with a new act in play over in Washington DC? (Click here to read the act. ) I hear people get mad that Ecstasy is causing a lot of trouble in the scene, and then the rest who say that drugs are a part of the scene. I've even heard a few that feel the government should mind their own business and let American children kill themselves if they want. As for me, I'm going to quote Uncle Dan: D-Jam

  19. Well, whenever I see single women, they are all in the tightly-knitted packs, and I cannot blame them. We're in a world where guys will either just rudely grab women or worse yet, slip drugs into drinks. Plus I notice that a lot of the women I meet in nightclubs are not necessarily the kind of women I would want to have a meaningful relationship with, hence why I like to date outside of the clubs. They are not horrible people, just people I cannot click with outside of the clubs.
  20. I wouldn't worry about it. Over the nine years I have been DJing, I have seen LOADS of men and women invest in turntables and give it a go. Some did it out of a love of the music, and others did it to ego-trip and say "Yeah, I'm a DJ". Most of the ego-trips eventually quit after a short time, leaving only the serious DJs left.
  21. Now THAT is imaginative!!!! >places the hat so thehacker can collect quarters for his work.<
  22. May 5, 2001 - Twilo got shut down.
  23. You New Yorkers have it waaaaaaaay easier! Here in Chicago, we don't have underage clubs or even a club that stays open past 5 AM. Heck, most of them have to close by 2 or 3!
  24. Condoms? What are those?
