Wow....I'm really surprised at the hostility this thread inspired. Why are protesters a threat to you?? What about them should make you so angry? Just because they're connected enough with the world to understand why globalization might be an issue? That they're compassionate enough to realize that maybe a cute Gap sweatshirt isn't worth the blood and sweat of children in central america? What about their passion inspires fear in you? I will agree that when protests get out of hand, as they did in Seattle, they are incredibly counter-productive. Countering economic violence with street violence solves nothing. However. To stand by and let people suffer in ignorance, to let them toil in merciless conditions with no idea of what else is possible, all for the sake of a cheaper pair of shoes and a more efficient system for the powerful....if that's what the world has come to, then god help us all.

My mom's getting more religious by the day....it's a little sketchy. I'm not an atheist, exactly...I think that god is a human construction, created by man to make himself feel better about his place and size in the cosmos. A blankie for the ego, if you will. If I was in love with a religious guy, I'm sure it wouldnt' be an issue between us in marriage. But, at the same time, I honestly can't see myself falling in love with someone like that. It's a completely different way of interpreting the world.

That's been my experience as well. The oldest guy I was with (he was 29) was down there *all the time*. The younger guys...hardly ever. I think they just haven't caught on yet... God I miss that...
