  1. my roomie is still asleep. I had to have dinner with the rents last night - they returned from new mexico where they'd been for 2 months. so, was music good? did Doomer show up? anything interesting / anyone interesting show up?
  2. I've heard the battle call! Yo mama's so fat she fell in love and broke it Yo mama's so ugly she has to tie steak around her neck to get the dog to play with her. Yo mama's like a turtle: as soon as she's on her back she's screwed.
  3. Ok, i know that there are some review threads, but maybe the SOE folks will read this. I had a great great time - they did an excellent job on the talent and orchestrating getting people into the event. Here are some thoughts based on some HUGE raves I've been to (50,000 people raves) about how to make it even better: * sound: put some speakers towards the backs of the tents - especially the big tents. without walls to bounce off, the bass just died in the Moonshine tent. * sound: extend the tent sidings or separate the tents a bit more so you can hang outside the tents and only hear one dj instead of a mix of them all. either that or invest in much bigger tents. the tents for Skol Beats held 5000 people each, so i know they are out there. but they also separated them enough that you could listen from outside without getting overflow sound from the other tents. you had lots and lots of space to work with: USE IT! * labeling: put some BIG ASS line up cards OUTSIDE each tent. Also, label the tents A, B, C, etc. and hand out neck cards or something with the lineups. this is a no brainer. * beverages: you guys should consider having separate beverage tents...i'm talking about non-alcoholic ones. it was lucky that it wasn't a hot day cause you were totally unprepared for it. unless you wanted water or red bull, you had to wait in the endless food lines. the best i've seen is where you buy tickets at one place and then get your drinks at the drink tents with the tickets...lines move super quick. * beverages - alcohol: i understand that you had a lot of underage kids there (which is another problem), but forcing people to drink in one location is really a dis-service. Since you should be encouraging people to do stuff other than drugs, it should be easy for those of age to get drinks and wander with them so they can chill on the grass with a beer and listen to what they want. give people wrist bands and stuff. it isn't a perfect solution, but we all know kids with fake id's were in the drinks tent anyways.... * age - i totally understand wanting to have a no age limit event. however, much of the drug issues people posted were cause of 14 year olds. this is also why you had to rope off the alcohol area. the best raves i've been at were at NIGHT - from 7pm to 7am. little kids can't get to those much anyway and even though i hated not being able to go when i was that young, sometimes its worth it to let people learn how to handle themselves BEFORE heading to something like this. * food services: again, go with the ticket idea and have several locations. either that or let people bring their own. having to spend an hour on line when you've spent 60 bucks to get in to hear music sucks. especially when you are getting a mix of hip hop, techno and breaks all at the same time while in line: u couldn't even enjoy the music during your wait. if you had had several food tents, say one near each area, this problem would have been solved. * chill out area. I understand that the weather ruined the ability to sit on the grass for most people. however, it also rained at that 50,000 person rave i mentioned. they had 2 massive chill out tents with mellow music and bean bag / cusions and mellow light shows going on. music was quiet enough that you could talk or sleep - whatever you needed. totally different idea: if you had sold pvc mats for a couple bucks you would have had tons of buyers - there should just be a place for people to sit. it also helps reduce some drug use since people, if tired, might just sit and relax for a bit instead of popping something else to keep them on their feet. * cops and EMT: they were all over the place. i don't know if this is feasible in NYC these days, but it would have been much nicer if you could have had your own staff inside instead. people who are a little concerned about a friend are much more likely to seek help from a staff member than a cop unless its already developed into a major problem. the ready accessibility of the EMT was great . the rave crowd isn't likely to get into a lot of fights, and you searched well for weapons and stuff going in so this should be an ok solution. again, the 50k rave did this and had no problems. I think the rain kept a lot of people away, which kept some of these problems to a minimum, but imagine the food and bathroom lines if you had another 5k people show up? Thanks for the awesome time!!!
  4. LMFAO!!! what's that supposed to mean? its not the age, its the miles. I think i put about 47 of them on my legs last night. sai - u da woman! you can usually outdance me good luck tonight honey! ok, time to relax the legs with a nice 12 mile skate into the city (yes, cross training will make you young again!) roha - u hitting filter14 2nite?
  5. sorry i didn't talk to anyone...too busy bounce bounce bouncing!!! damn! better than last time hawtin was here if only cause of all the changes. and the best thing was: I WORE SHORTS!!!! hi everyone! Roha - you, my friend, are a lush
  6. joe- my weekends are great. my point is, if the weekdays were as good as the weekend, you'd have nothing to look forward to. everything needs a little contrast.
  7. well, M: since most of those friends you are talking about post on this board, why don't you take it up with them directly? find out why they aren't calling you so much anymore if that's the case...maybe you're way involved with your new relationship and not going out so much anymore or something (just one of many possibilities) but i'm sure you wouldn't want them posting stuff here if they actually have a problem with you right now...the specifics of peeps problems always seem petty to those that don't know us.
  8. suck it up! if monday's didn't exist the weekend wouldn't be so much fun...
  9. um...given the length of the relationship its totally reasonable that she made independant and lasting friendships with your friends. plus i've seen you out with her a bunch of times since you broke up, so i'm not following why this is all of the sudden a problem 4 u....
  10. hey everyone! I was one of those preposterously drunk folks quoth noticed music was great, but the first couple hours are a bit blurry... Marci - great meeting you! and all the usual suspects plus those that i said hi too during my blackout period.... nathan! <----special shout out cause i never see you anymore
  11. I was pretty disappointed in the food at mesa. it was good but not special. i actually like the atmosphere, food and price better at miracle grill (bobby's first place i think). tasting menus: i love them. pretty refined pallet...my mom is an incredible cook so we were eating artichokes, snails and french sauces at age 3. back when i had a job, i used to have to sit through client / vendor tasting menues at le bernadin, etc. (poor me). i think morimoto's tasting menu would be sick...so many different flavors and combinations, subleties, etc. YUMMY!!! lav - if you want to practice for the big cook off i'll help with some taste testing.
  12. ok 1st: Lav is the Warrior Vegan. Just cause she only eats veggies doesn't mean she can't carve you UP!! i ate at mesa a couple years ago. totally unimpressed. however i would be more than happy to cough up the 80 bucks a head for morimoto's chefs tasting menu at his new place in Philly. Looks SICK!!!! could you imagine being set loose in stadium kitchen! i'd need more like 4 or 5 hours, but still
  13. kris - i hear ya. i'll be there, just like last year. where i met most of you all n e ways. PS1 is seriously the most chill venue and reoccuring event in NYC. note the work "chill"...it is not a rowdy drunk fest, it is not a drug induced wack place...its full of somewhat artsy peeps chillin in the sun listening to some tunes and chatting. almost like an art and electonica tea party (just with beer instead of tea). the buildings pretty cool and the crowds like everything from 40 year olds with their kids to a few raver kids bouncing around. btw - they change the set up of the place every year. i actually drove past it the other day (since its right near my place) and of course the couryard is like a blank canvas. wonder if they will bring the fans back...?
  14. yo, what UP mikey!? missed you at the bar the other night damnit!!! no more drinks in the hood without me, ya hear?
  15. Alexandra - i'm glad your doing ok now. someone else mentioned it, but drugs effect different people in different ways. People who have problems with X are gonna have problems controlling their use of any drug IMO. If you get to the point where you can't go out without rolling, or just don't have a good time without rolling, then its starting to get a hold of you. drug use should be an additive ingredient. a different time then you have without it, or an enhanced time. but i don't think you should take stuff to have a good time when you are feeling down. when you start trying to replace bad stuff in your life with drugs you become dependent on them. i'm lucky enough to have a totally non addictive personality. i've tried lots of stuff with no problems, but i do whatever i do in moderation. and i NEVER take drugs if i'm depressed or in a bad mood. and i never allow something i do to become associated with drug use so that i have a bad time unless i'm rolling or something. to answer the initial question: i've always had a bad memory. but when i was taking stuff frequently i noticed it got worse. i've never had any depression problems with it. in fact, except for a slight fuzzy, cotton head feeling and food tasting weird, i feel great the next day and always have. i personally believe that if you don't let your brain recover between uses you can cause some definite damnage. my feeling is, don't do a lot of pills at once, or drop all the time. save it for special occasions or what have you. have fun. be safe
  16. i have dish network too and couldn't find it. i sent them a question about it yesterday. I'll let you know what i find out.
  17. Thats what those strange late night sounds that emenate from your room are....
  18. thank you thank you (bows in seat) i remember the hardest part was getting people to believe that I didn't make the whole thing up. I think i only remember it cause it all happened POST being out and stuff and i was (mostly) sober and thoughtful and stuff. i gots a few more sorta similar to this, but never wrote them all out.
  19. Episode 3: A guide to Happiness Ok, parents leave. 1 hour to game time. 60 blocks to the bar to meet my boys. Jersey goes on. Cars start honking at me. this is cool. I am at Columbus Circle. I am walking in a crowd of hundreds. Someome grabs my arm and says "We need to talk". It is a very earnest looking girl, maybe 25 or 30. She's standing between me and the western sky which is still kinda lit up, so her face is all sparkily around the edges and there are blues and greens and yellows flashing around. Talking to her seems like a pretty cool idea.... She tells me she has something for me. I look down at the pamphet in her / my hands: "The Way to HAPPINESS - a common sense guide to better living" hmmmm. "Why are u giving me this?" "Everyone can live better." "But why did u pick me out of this whole crowd?" She looks at me skeptically. "Uh, u look like you could benefit from this. Especially pages 4 and 5." Pete opens pamphlet to page 4: 2. Be Temperate 2-1. Do not take harmful drugs 2-2. Do not take alcohol to excess 2-3. Get lots of rest There is a large paragraph addressing each on of these. "So, u think i'm a crackhead?" -"Well, i didn't..." "Cause that's really judgemental. I'll bet there's a passage about that in here too. Yeah, here it is: "Respect people for who they are. Do not judge others if you do not know them." -"Wel..." "That's ok hon, i don't think you're really a bad person. I'm gonna go get really drunk and watch the yankees now" Petey walks down the street whistling a tune. Hmmmm....jellybeans look good (picks some up). Tries to guess the flavors without looking. Seems like berry flavors just aren't registering yet.... arrives at bar in time to watch most of the game and chat bout things....evidently i was fairly humorous BTW: on further reading, this pamphlet actually states: "The way to happiness does nto include murdering your friends, your family, or yourself being murdered." <--- which sucks cause now i need a new plan....Grrrrrrrrrr. The pamphlet is written by L. Ron Hubbard. not shittin' ya either.
  20. wow! and you had only read part 1 2 to go....
  21. ummm...please some support folks. i'm exposing so much of my tender side here... OK, Episode 2: Meet the parents 1pm. back inside. phone rings. oh yeah, gotta meet my parents at Lincoln Center at 2:45 for a play and dinner. No problem. Pete stands up: big problem. d*amn . Limps up to corner store to get a sandwich. Eats half of it before realizing that the hunger pains were really false alarms and the food tastes like ashes. into the shower. water feels like little insects stinging me. or maybe hailstones. can't decide what temp the water is. no shaving (waaaaay too dangerious). looks in the mirror - sees alien and looks over his shoulder for pete who is no where to be found. grabs a book. grabs some music. grabs the yankee jersey. heads out the door. tries to get on the G train. closed. tries to walk over the Pulaski bridge. closed to pedestrian traffic. pete starts to panic. 45 minutes to show time. the whole marathon thing gives us an idea though. we strip off most of our clothes and run the mile and a half over the greenpoint ave bridge to the 7 train in our loafers. I read a little Two Towers to settle my brain and waltz outta the subway at Lincoln Center. Evidently i didn't recognize my parents right away. Their heads looked too large actually. The show, Contact, is really cool. Its a dance / acting thing with three skits and is very funny (I think). By the way, my voice has returned to a low croak so i can communicate somewhat. Even though it was very good, i almost fell asleep 2 or 3 times. At one point i think i was hearing the words backwards - or maybe a flashback to Stairway to Heaven played in reverse. It is over. It is blessedly dark outside. My parents tell me that i am looking good. I manage to keep a straight face. Off to Shun Lee West for dinner. Sooooo yummmy. Now i am hungry. Hacked chicken, scallion pancake, Ants on the Tree, Sweetbreads and mushroom, shredded beef, etc. All i can think of is the Yankee game. I need a drink or 6 to wake me up. It is 6:30 Episode Three: A Guide to Happiness (coming soon)
  22. the little guys passed out. lavender bought him a new bottle last night, but when i red your post outloud he drooled a bit in his sleep. oh, posted that thingy u asked for
  23. OK, u asked for it. A reprint in three parts from marathon NYC sunday last year. Hope this chases away the boredom! Off Topic: BarVybe's wacky wacky sunday Well, i have actually morphed into my lesser half (u know, that guy who's always running around the city on very little sleep and what not) Episode one: a marathon morning So, Saturday night was EXCELLENT. I arrived home with about 6 friends at 7am to chill at the homestead. I was quite polluted. U can use your imagination, but waaaaaaay more f*ucked up than any of you have seen me. we decided to play "what's the best version of that song".. Luckily between Shannon and i we own lots of songs.... 5 versions of love in traffic 6 of underworlds Everything Everything 4 of doom's night etc. many gin tonica and juices later (cause evidently i was deathly afraid of mellowing into just drunk and happy) 3petey passes out in his own living room to the sounds of Private Pyle going medieval on the sergeants ass! It is perhaps 9am. 10:30 - wakes up extraordinarily disoriented to the sounds of large metal clanging. Takes a while to figure out where i am. Longer to figure out that i'm alone and the metal clanging is the sanitation department setting up barriers for the marathon right outside my window. Pete passes out again.... Only to be awakened at 11:30 by wild cheering. He opens his eyes to realize they are glued shut by the contacts he fell asleep in. eventually, he looks out to see the lead runners streaming past. sprinting at 11 on a sunday morning - dumb ass motherfuckers!!!! I get up, put on my Yankees Jerzey and stumble to the corner to wait for my buddies to run by. I realize that i am still drunk and trippin' on something really juicy. good thing i brought tunez and shades. People run by yelling go yankees at me. i try to yell back, but my voice is still upstairs. i clap and wave and caper about in a little circle. My boy brian runs by, gives me the big hi five, yells Yanks!! and fades into the distance. The euphoria fades and i realize i'm gonna fall down unless i get something to eat. approximate time: 1pm Episode 2 (coming soon to this thread): meet the parents and pretend you're feeling normal. (please give me some encouragement)
