  1. For the one millionth time electro house and electro are not the same thing. I'm not a big fan of pigeon-holing music into micro-genres, but electro is not what you hear a guy like Steve Lawler or Sammy Peralta play. If you want to hear true electro, hear guys like Vitalic, The Hacker, Anthony Rother (by the way, if you've never seen him live, Anthony Rother will blow you away, he mixes, plays instruments and does vocals). Guys like Sven Vath, Miss Kittin, Oxia and Ivan Smagghe also program lots of electro into their sets. There are many other names out there, that's just a small sample.
  2. Wouldn't even go that far. The stuff put out by Rivera the last few years has been tripe for the most part. The washed out, filtered electrohouse sound is played out.
  3. That venue is fucked. It will never be a great venue, no matter who takes it over. It's far too large and with so much competition in NYC, no one will be able to bring a large enough crowd to fill it weekly. The era of big clubs in NYC is over with Crobar being an exception to the rule.
  4. Whoever is saying the place was overloaded with guidos or that they were somehow a problem, please shut the fuck up. You're talking out of your ass. Probably one of the more mixed crowds you'll ever see in NYC. There was a bit of eerything and everyone there. The music was great all around. This is coming from a DT and a DK regular.
  5. 1. Cielo is by definition a SMALL club, and most people prefer it that way because of the more intimate feeling. If you want a big dance floor, don't bother going to Cielo, you won't be missed. 2. Wasn't there so I can't comment, but Wednesday nights are hardly a night where you will find aggressive people. In fact that's something you rarely see at Cielo. It's not something I've seen, especially at a deep house night anywhere in the city 3. Go to Pangaea or some other pretentious place if that's such a concern for you. It's a place for music heads. 4. You go to a Louie Vega and Kevin Hedge night and what music did you expect? Pots and pans tribal techno? It's a deep house night and one of the best in the city. Culture Club type music? That's hysterical, either deep house isn't your thing (in which case you shouldn't have been there), or you are just clueless. 5. A wedding? C'mon, your credibility is shit with all the other comments you made, I won't even address this one. Please do us and yourself a favor and stay away from Cielo.
  6. Crobar's just about done.
  7. Now you're really talking out of your ass. Your first two posts say nothing about NYC. And tech was big in NYC 6 years ago? Where do you get this steaming pile of dog shit from? Techno has never been BIG in NYC (big as in gets the same level of attention as house), if so, please let me know where, because I've been going out for the past 14 years in NYC. NYC has traditionally been a house oriented city. Since you were 16 in 2000, please drop the knowledge. Give specific examples of how tech is on the back burner now, as opposed to how it wasn't 6 years ago. Yes, there have been many regular techno nights (Baktun, Tronic Treatment, Lunatarium, PS1 etc.) as long as I have been going out in NYC, but they have been confined to smaller places and more underground spots. Twilo hosted Cox, Hawtin and Sven periodically back then, but those guys still play out at the megaclubs nowadays, so please distinguish 2000 and 2006 for me. Guess what, promoting for Pacha and clubbing at Sneaky Pete's in Albany in your clubbing hey day doesn't make you much of an authority. Please do tell us where you were clubbing before age 16, I would love to know. It's so obvious to anyone who knows music and the scene well that's you're a fucking amateur.
  8. Aren't you like 22 or something? And you're talking about how techno was big 6 years ago, when you were 16 and couldn't get into a club? Ever heard of the Love Parade? Before Berlin cracked down on the parade it was attended by, at its peak, 2 million people annually. It's predominantly techno and trance that's played there, house is very low on the totem pole. Carl Cox played before an estimated 1 million people just a few years ago. Name a single house DJ that has done that. Another example, Carl Cox's annual party in Holland, Carl Cox and Friends, draws 10,000-15,000 people annually, all in the same room, and this is in Rotterdam, a tiny city. Let's give any house DJ a venue in NYC with sufficient capacity to host an event of that size, and you will get nowhere close to that large a crowd. What are the 3 biggest weekday nights in Ibiza? Circo Loco @ DC-10, which is minimal techno, Global @ Space, which is all techno and Cocoon @ Amnesia, which minimal to tech to electro. The I Love Techno festival in Ghent, Belgium, another small city, draws around 35,000 people annually. The Monegros Festival in the middle of a fucking desert in Spain, draws over 40,000 people. The Exit Festival in Serbia draws tens of thousands annually. I could go on and on, if you look at most of the world's large scale dance music events, with the except of Global Gathering which is supposed to be more diversified musically, they are dominated by techno or trance, not house. Techno is huge in Spain, Germany, France, Italy, the UK, Belgium, Holland and all over Eastern Europe. It's more of an underground scene in the states with the exception of Detroit. Just because you don't hear techno at Crobar or Pacha (or if you do, because the turnout is low), doesn't mean techno is dead. Before you speak and embarass yourself once again, know your facts...
  9. It's still going to be filled with guidos, cracked out asians and other B&T trash. You can't recreate what's been done at Stereo in Montreal in NYC. It's not just the sound system, it's the vibe and the people, which NYC lacks in big rooms. Also have to remember, much more laid back attitude by police in Montreal, unlike NYC, where undercovers are all over.
  10. Difficult to compare the two sets since Danny played much longer, but pound for pound, Danny took the prize last night. He was amazing. I've heard better from Carl.
  11. That devastating news . . . for those three people that actually care.
  12. Glowball, years may pass by, but it's obvious you're still a dolt. Were you high when you came up with this amazing idea?
  13. ROFL. Cmon now. I couldn't care less about any other DJ that I like not winning. I stopped the JP bashing a while ago, but reading the JP boards is hysterical. This goomba Lou B acts like he was the brains behind JP winning a Grammy or something. All the clueless followers were posting as if this was the greatest thing that's ever happened. Enjoy your "Victory" but guess what, this poll is as meaningless as all the other polls. Just because a number of your fans make up multiple email addresses and vote multiple times (which is somewhat pathetic when you think about it), doesn't mean that your DJ is the 'best American DJ'. And it gets better, now there's a campaign for the DJ Mag Top 100. The mindless drones are on the boards encouraging each other to vote for JP 5 times and make up email addresses to get more votes for JP. Sorry, but that's GHEY.
  14. Definitely possible to mix without monitors and headphones if you are spinning records. It's not easy, but like you said, if you know your records well and can get good at reading a record's grooves, it's doable. With digital music/CDs, not possible.
  15. It's two different parties. Chus and Ceballos technically weren't opening up for anyone.
  16. THAT was a set. Mills was off the chain last night. He showed exactly why he's a true legend.
  17. His minimal stuff is done under the Plastikman moniker.
  18. Got dragged there by my girlfriend, and was there about 9 hours ending at 10AM (sober). I'm not a JP fan AT ALL, but I call them like I see them. JP was excellent last night. No, I'm not a convert to JP now. I still think he's a guy with a lot of wasted talent whose best years are long behind him, and nothing changes that his crowd is horrible. But admittedly, he put on a good show last night. This is the first time I've heard a quality set from him since 01/02. Well done.
  19. Doesn't take away from how ridiculous these guys look, though I would give it to the girl up the dumper.
  20. Engrish please? And what kind of retard posts his myspace link in every post? Take a look in a mirror dude, no one that matters wants to be your friend. Holy shit, this board gets dumber and dumber each day.
  21. Seriously, isn't thehype the herb that would go around Metro Lounge wearing neckties? And now he's hit the big time, he's an NJGuido moderator. Big ups homie, you've made it to epic loser status. Put that on your resume.
  22. So that's how the Farthammer got in your pants.
  23. Is Onisakura the same chick that banged The Farthammer? Just checking.
