  1. thats why love djs like danny tenaglia, timmy regisford, roger sanchez, tedd patterson, danny krivit, louie vega, francois k, most of those djs play 30yrs or more of dance music and make it work with the exception of roger sanchez who doesnt play music thats goes back that far, but still drops some early to mid 80s stuff. One of the best parts of the be yourself parties was when danny t would drop a track from 1968 and tell everyone how important and how great that song was when it first came out and how he loved having the original vinyl. And then follow it up with a todd terry or chus n ceballos. Or how about the shelter and 718 sessions and deep space, roots, sacred rhythm parties when those djs play old and new music to a crowd ranging in age from 20-50 and all sexual orientations, straight,bi,gay, transgeder. All dancing to both new and old music, now thats special. I also thinks its good for people to learn about music from the past, heres an example of people who dont care or who just dont know about dance music history: http://bbs.clubplanet.com/showthread.php?t=291940&page=6
  2. i guess knowing the history of this culture in terms of music/djs/scenes/clubs/people/ producers isnt something you guys really care about.
  3. practically all nyc house with the exception of work it to the bone, then it also deepends which one the original by LNR or some other version.
  4. Like what? Another thing that confuses me is when people say chicago house, what exactly do you mean. The songs liek CAN YOU FEEL IT, YOUR LOVE, BABY WANTS TO RIDE, MOVE YOUR BODY, CANT GET ENOUGH, YOU USE TO HOLD ME,etc. basically the style of the first house songs, or something else? And i hope you know that sometimes people who call that STYLE of music CLASSICS/orignal seem to forget that theirs so much new music out right now with that sound buts its just plain ol deephouse/house music. Im from bushwick projects. Where your at?
  5. Same here I LOVE THE WORD HOUSE MUSIC and cant stand the word edm.
  6. Dj sneak at SOL as well as DANNY TENAGLIA at spirit will be good alternatives for ya if ya have a bad experince at pacha. Or do all 3, im only goin to sol and then spirit.
  7. I tell ya this much mike cause i dunno if ya been to sol yet but its a nice size room which means we wont be kicking and punching each other while dancing lol.
  8. How long you been in this game? Edm stands for Electronice Dance Music. Personally i cant stand that word. Another thing i wanted to add as to why sometimes OLDER music doesnt get played is cause nowadays the average clubber, downloads a song for free illegally he hears in a club the min he gets home, and plays it to death and so songs now lose thier NEW value much quicker than they once did. All IMO,of course.
  9. It really all depends on the dj, a great dj can play music from over 30yrs and make it work. Then it also depends on the crowd and what typeof music their into. HIP HOP is just one style ofmusic HIP HOP, then theres countless styles of "EDM" (i hate that word) and some people only like stuff thats hard and fast and new constantly. Imagine crobar 5am danny t playing for thousands and all of a sudden he drops "BABY WANTS TO RIDE" from 1984 maybe only a few hundred will get it and love it. While the rest of the crowd will be like HEY WHERES MY HARD DARK SICK TRIBAL MAN. And thats the problem.
  10. And just for the hell of it i might even have some shots and drinks with ya.
  11. it is about the music without a doubt but its also about how the music sounds to me.
  12. dont know him nor what hes done, but will say rest in peace, in the bigger picture whatever style or genre of music/djs your into its all under the same thing. So respect to this fallen dj.
  13. If ya love me or hate me your all more than welcome to come down and work the dancefloor with me. My actuay bday is on dec 31 but will have a part 1 party on dec 29th at sullivan room, pt 2 will be at cielo, so maybe you guys and gals can make it down and have some fun. Lets talk, lets dance, lets have fun. On the 29th theres gonna be some cds to give away so you can take home some of the sounds of the party.. And if your wondering what type of music is goin to be played at sully, well, expect everything from deep, dark, tribal beats with some progressive. Hope to see you guys there.
  14. Yo madness thats cause a lot of people on here just like to talk crap to stir up drama for themselves. And i wasnt hating on boris for this thread, it was meant to be shocking and the yes that bois part was to let people know it was the boris that everyone talksabout not something from another scene. Im in brooklyn and with a transit strike looks like im gonna be boris less.
  15. i guess that means no boris for me then lol.
  16. Personally ive never heard him live b4 so im very excited and curious to see what hes gonna sound like. Some of his productions have been massive so should be quite the night. Anybody else coming or will danny tenaglia and erick morillo have all of you guys. I know im goin to danny t after sneak.
  17. there is no after hrs at cielo.Only for new yrs eve will they be open till 10am. And the reason i create this thread was cause i know there are alot of boris fans on here and since no one said anything i thought i would. Cause thats what i do on this messageboard i post about parties so people could know whats goin on, and NO im not a promoter. I just do it cause im a fan of music. SHELTER on the other hand is the longest runnin party in nyc history 15YRS in april to be exact. Only david mancusos LOFT party is longer (35yrs) but that party is only 4-5 times a yr in NYC and is taken to places all over the world. TIMMY REGISFORD has been the dj at shelter since the begging and other residents are STING INTERNATIONAL, QUENTIN HARRIS. The music ranges from soulful, dance classics, deephouse, some tribal, and some tech-house tracks. The crowd is every age group and race from the 20s to the 50s people who dance dance dance. Its open every sat from 11pm till sunday afternoon sometimes 12pm sometimes 2pm sometimes 4pm. Now different types of crowds come and go during the whole party. But its mainly dancers some of the best dancers in nyc during certain hrs as well. Check out the pictures of the 14 yr anniversary party and you will get an idea of what its like in thier on sat nights sun afternoon: http://clubshelter.com/images/14th/index.htm Can i ask what other djs you liek or clubs and what parties have you attended, this way maybe i can get an understanding of where your coming from as well.
  18. Im actually loving this conversation, vocal house and soulful slow stuff, ok i see your point, but i guess you dont like faster soulful stuff as well right? And David morales is no longer a soulful/vocal dj only, so you can bash him all you want since he isnt exactly my style completely anymore. But i will stand up for him if he is bash cause the man is a legend in this business since the 80s. And the stuff ron hardy was playing was not considered gay vocal chicago hosue at all by nobody in the industry. And ron wouldnt play the bee gees if he played at 54, much like when nicky siano played 54 for the first few yrs he got fired WHY becuase he wouldnt play the commercial stuff thatpeople were expecting like the bee gees.
  19. Dude reread what i wrote, i didnt call boris a trance dj, i jsut simply said that trance is really the one style of edm music that i can say i dont like.
  20. And this is where the confusement about me comes to play. Im a fan of djs danny tenaglia, behrouz, tedd patterson, derrick carter, mark farina, willie graff, francois k, danny krivit, dj vibe, carl cox, steve lawler, roger sanchez, joe claussell, louie vega, etc, etc. Point being that i listen to a wide variety of djs ands tyles of music while trance being the only music i really dont like. And the reason most of my posts are about a certain sound/genre is because no one else is posting about it and most people dont know about certain djs/parties/scens/geners anyway. They only know one thing. And trust me i dont the whole hard progressive tribal shit yrs ago as well, i like some stuff but cant stand it really for a long period of time, is it that ive been goin out since 95, or is it maturity in musical tastes, or prefernces, maybe a bit of both. If boris is your thing thats great and i really hope you have a great time, much like your a fan of him and his sound, i am not. Much like i can give you my reasons why i dont like him im sure you can give me yours on why you do like him. But were both gonna be at cielo tomorrow so hopefully we both have a good time, see ya on the dancefloor.
  21. BOring boris and bore us to death have been his nicknames among others for yrs goin aback to 99 when i had my first introduction to him. But thats not the point. Every big room dj that has played CIELO has played a bit different unless their not versatile to playanything else, which basically means your not realla complete dj, cause you can onlyplay one sound. I guess maybe you havent been familiar with this concept abotu cielo, especially since cielo is known for thier sound all over the wordl. Personally i can only take about 30- 40 mins of boris sets nowadays. Last time at discotheque after hrs me and my boys left after about 20mins of being there back in like april or something. But like i said i will be there to hear him on tues.
