CIELO,SPIRIT(when done right), MOVIDA, LOVE, SHELTER. Are the best for my ears and tastes.
yeah, you pretty much nailed it with this list...(can't say for movida, never been there).
fun thing, shelter sound system is really twilo retweaked to be different.

Spirit has hands down the best sound system in for a big room in this city (still not better than Twilo or even Vinyl imo
Vinyl's the best sound I experienced, even if Twilo seems more powerfull, Vinyl had a raw&smooth thing to it...hard to explain.
Cielo is probably the best small room sound system, but watch out for Movida's sound system--quality!Then Movida will have to compete with the sound at the Love club on 8th, the sound there is at the top 5 I've heard ever.

I hope you are right, and I sure hope Spirit does have a clear idea on what they want to do with that club. I think they're finally on to something interesting with Junior and Peter and I would hate to see that born-dead.
They have an amazing line-up for April: Morillo, Tenaglia, Rauhofer, Vasquez. This is what this club needs to be, a real showcase of the best DJs New York has to offer.

Ya know who has the bomb stash .. the asian crowd. GOOD LORD, seriously you would think they were on straight fucking herion the whole time. Half of the bitches in there are semi conscious and being help up by a guy who can barely hold himself up.

speaking of stories (i like this thread), i heard insane things from the original sound factory...like some couple came all dressed up and organised a full-on pic-nic on the dancefloor (wtf?!) ; or when the punch was somehow 'spiced-up' (with the taste was a little more on the acidic side
). -
one time at twilo, there was like 50 black queens all dressed up in gaultier/dior/vuitton/... with amazing trans, they were from the south, in the city for a huge ball in harlem. they decided to head to twilo for jr afterhours (was that time junior made the ghb speech i think)...they were smoking crack in the lounge like crazy.
the bouncers smelled it, stormed in, but they always hid the pipe one way or another and the bouncers couldn't find anything...this whole shady dance lasted few hours, the smell was strong and the queens were making fun of the bouncers....fun fun fun.

When I first started clubbing, I didn't know where all the cool afterhours parties were, and I used to go to this gross crackhead party at this club called Essex on the LES...its the skeeviest place I've ever been to....anyways, there was this transvestite who looked more feminine than a lot of girls that I know, but was like 6 feet tall and decked out in this elaborate makeup like the club kids in party monster, and was totally K'd out...everyone was really buzzed and there was a really cool crowd and everyone was dancing together and talking, and she kept grabbing my arm all night and introducing me to ppl and her hands were ice cold...like there was ice in her veins...at one point, she got into a pose where it looked like she was playing red light, green light, and she mustve been in a k hole bc she stood absolutely still, not moving an inch, in the middle of the dance floor in that exact same position for at least 15 min...it was insane, i wonder if she even ended up leaving the place alive..

Spirit fridays has the worst crowd. I experienced that when Junior was trying to do the Fridays there....tragic crowd, there's no word for it.
Now I wasn't there yesterday, but your description is exactly what I experienced back then. I think they should just get a good resident rotation and build a crowd because last time I was there it was a waste.
I am still glad some had a good time.
