What's this? Greece beats Portugal???

A complete stunner ... Greece was 80-1 before the tournament started.

But, a NT that hadn't won one game in a major tournament came to Portugal silently, believing in their team work.

To get to Portugal, Greece lost its opening two games ... to later win 6 straight, not receiving one goal against, and topping their group over Spain. Defense, does it ring a bell?

Their strength came from recognizing their weaknesses ... their team lacked the ability of other nations in the tournie ... but compensated it with the basics of the sport ... team work.

Their opening game victory to Portugal 2-1 was the first step. Beating France 1-0 in quarters made them the first nation to beat the hosts and defending champs in the same tournament.

In quarters, semis and the final today, they beat their opponents by closing their net to allow no goals. And like today, they maximized their chances on goal. I'll take effectiveness over possesion every game.

They are not a fancy team ... not a team that will be remebered for flashy football ... they will be remebered in history as the strongest team work to win a major tournament, leaving behing Denmark's achievement in '92.

Hellas Greece. Pinch yourselves again, it seems like a dream ... but it is true.

He who doesn't know the pain of losing in football doesn't know pain in all its magnitude.

The law of inversely proportional. The pain of losing only amounts to the joy of winning. (Ask Happyface for this one - )

Moment of the game. A Barza fan reminds Figo that being a Barza fan means having balls.

..Yea it hurts losing to a team that IS inferior to portugal in terms of talent and beauty of it's game ..... especially in a game where there was a 16 to 2 shots on goal ratio in favor of portugal . Greece defends literally the whole game and in turn score when given 1 chance ....very cinical/frustating way of play .

But whatever...the ball is round and upsets are part of the fun at times .....this year has been overall very fullfiling for me in terms of soccer joy .

PS...if Portugal gain more goal scoring efficiency ..watch out for us in WC 2006 . recognize bitches! :)
