WarpdriveNYC
you act like a little kid your head moves to the beat when music is played you keep hearing music after a rave you smile when the music is good you smile when you see something cute you hug others more you consider every new place you go to as a possible location for a party you order water when you go out to clubs you constantly points out the trippy visuals in everyday life you get overly excited when you receive something food, water, air, Vick's...all are about of equal importance. you not only notice that household appliances like washing machines can generate a funky beat, you also argue about whether it's house or trance. you have sleeping patterns that would kill normal human beings. you can live for an entire weekend out of your bookbag. you are no longer just a raver...but a promoter, vendor, DJ, etc... clinton
Im an old skool raver who slowly but surely graduated to a house community believer/ member by 2000 or so, although id been hearing house djs since late 80s & raving since 1993-94 and clubbing since late 70s. house has been like my religion since at least 2000 i think some of the first raves were the 'happenings' in 1966-67 in nyc in central park i think lots of free festivals of the 60s were raves like monterey pop

WarpdriveNYC
Quoted on a PsyTrance Forumbegan in London if am not mistaken actually psy parties have in past been refered to as Raves...people dont like to call them Raves anymore becuz of the negative connotation associated with the term...They were called Goa Trance Parties...but it was too long a name ...now Raves are associated with house/happy hardcore techno etc typically in the US and psytrance has quit the rave scene...in many parts of the world psy parties are still called raves, infact there are countries where a Rave is only associated with psytrance. A rave is an all night event, where people go to dance, socialise, get high and generally have fun in an uninhibited way with other likeminded people. Some say it's about the creation of a community and re-connecting with something perceived as lost. Others just say it's about necking loads of pills and getting wasted with your mates in a field. so psy parties are raves like it or not. but again its like some people dont like to call Goa Trance..Psytrance same story. Raves began in warehouses of London nevertheless in the late 80's or something
nomembername
Now who can answer me what yr was the first "raves" created and what triggered it and where and by whom?shit I didn't study for this quiz...where's 9mile so I can cheat off of him
9mile
I would have to say right around 1987 when TODD TERRY started putting the BBOY element into House music and taking it away from the discos and gay clubs was when the rave scene was born. Of course there was more Tech related stuff going on in europe, but the stuff that was coming out of New York and Chicago and Detroit was finally starting to leave the clubs and get exposed to a whole new generation who would become the "ravers" of the 90'swhile i am not that schooled in the euro rave history, one cannot deny that frankie bones had a HUGE role in the US rave scene with his STORM RAVE parties from like 89-91, thats when Shit started to EXPLODE in the states. WarpdriveNYC
This a Cool post from another Psytrance forum..actually it all started in late 70's San Francisco in the post-disco gay clubs. Music called high energy (not to be confused with NRG) Its horrible i dont recomend anyone listen to it, but thats where it all started That in turn influenced the use of 4 -4 kicks, and brought about Detroit techno, (mid / late 80's) which in turn was exported to the UK, fused with the TB-303 and became Acid House. That started the rave movement. The UK than reguritated acid house back to the US gay clubs in Chicago and New York, where the mixed it with the already now indiginous Detroit Techno creating the early US rave sound that was pioneerd by the likes of Frankie Bones, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, etc etc.... Back in the UK acid house began spawing other genres, dnb, hardcore , house and eventually trance. Goa trance in particular has unique roots which while tieing in with acid house and early techno it also did not follow the same developmental time line untill the mid / late 90's and by a text book deffinition a psy party is a rave. A bunch of people in UV reactive wear, dancing wildly in front of a dj or act playing repative syncopated beats... but from the standpoint what one may be getting back on a personal level, whether it be spirtuallity, vibe, or maturity psy parties have evolved past just a basic rave and ps i recommend this a good read and the best deffinative book i have ever come across concerning the history of Rave Culture is Generation Ecstasy by Simmon Reynolds "He who ha-ha's last, ha-ha's best" www.mind-funk-music.com MFM: 002 Complex Cosmic Creation compiled by Paradigm & Shawnodese coming soon www.geomagnetic.tv

silverbull
Northern Soul!!!!Clinton took it wayyyyyyyyy back. But im sure some people might argue based on what they consider raves. Now NORTHERN SOUL is def something to think about. Now while most people jock Frankie bones for what he did in the us, think about what gave him the inspiration. LONDON summer of love uk scene, rave scene. Now what inspired that well lets see the parties from shoom, hacienda, and all the acid house scene goin on at that time, and what inspired acid house, and this is the point i wanted to make: CHICAGO HOUSE MUSIC. Those europeans couldnt get enough of it from 1986-1988, want proff: Watch the documentary PUMP UP THE VOLUME, mainly part 2. If you dont have access let me know i will get you a link. computerjockey
Yes they still do, some peeps on here are into that scene. Now who can answer me what yr was the first "raves" created and what triggered it and where and by whom?Hey Gabe -In the Florida scene "raves" came on quickly and hard in 1991 and where going headstrong and at it's peak in '92. Raves were simply amazing because it just meant someone renting out a convention center or a huge field and playing house/techno/whatever and having a couple of bands play. The unity and family feel with the music bringing us altogether was pretty new to us however things like vics inhalers, pacifiers, glow sticks and ren&stimpy dolls kinda overtook the whole rave culture and made it something most of us didn't want to be associated wtih anymore. thumperxl
Well the first raves i went to or knew about(Storm) were in abandoned warehouses/factories in brooklyn and queens around 1989 and they were the sickest parties ever(i still have fliers to some of these parties lmfao). With dj's like sven vath,dj dag, frankie bones,dj hell, jimmy crash, lenny dee, josh wink, richie hawtin blowin shit up. Very underground as you could get away with anything back then(smokin da herb^^). Things were great until about 94 when the firemarshalls couldnt be bought out anymore or maybe it was mayor gulliani just being a dick. Anyways all the parties were gettin shut down. Then it all went commercial and candy. Now its a dead scene.
