  1. Actually no, "electronica" or edm would have been a far more appropriate term. I'd alsmot say house, much of the music you could have heard at some of those places has no soul. To many, going out is but a phase, but for that phase to ever happen it must be acknowledged that it is a lifestyle for many. My impression of the tone in many of the responses was that going out is a novelty and to treat it as such is simplistic.
  2. Music is not simply classified as noise, techno, hiphop, rock, country, latin, and classical. From your post it seem you don't really know what techno is, prolly never actually heard, let alone listened to techno, and prolly aren't hearing hiphop now. You are a scenester, nothing wrong with that as every existence is valid, but some of your impressions are inaccurate.
  3. scenester defined it's good to have passions, partying doesn't have ot be one of them, but it can be. just mkae you're passionate because whatever it is is for you and not for someone else posers are boring.
  4. nanananananananana leader. leader. leader. leader.
  5. I dunno, how about hippies? ever heard hte line "sex, drugs, and rock and roll?" people seem to be getting high in the rset of hte world too. perhaps the only reason to glorify the existence of the consumption is simply to throw that back into the face of authority. young people do like to break rules and doing drugs is an easy way breaking rules. instead of harping on the natural inclinations of people to explore enjoyable altered states, how about bitching about the retarded laws in the first place?
  6. subculture built around artistic foundations, no? You think the producers don't make music to interact w/ the substances? The blinking lights are to help you read a book?
  7. im sure the wall cost was factored when considering using hte space to create additional revenue
  8. cmon, nobody in this demographic, especially this demographic in nyc voted for him
  9. sillies buzz took on the last bill, defeated it, and was shut down from their dc club. if their efforts were listened to, then htere would not be a repeated effort to launch another bill. there aren't enough people parrtying that vote to make a differnece in the ees of hte politicians. as lame as it may sound. the only way to fight this shit is to have "dance the vote" type movments at parties and clubs. getting younger people more politically active than reactionary will do more in the long run. or revolt. there is enough stupid shit happening that there needs to eb a revolution
  10. i make a living working on sound systems in nightclubs, many of which you listed, and otehrs you have not. who the fuck says "special k?" you sound like a cop, reporter, or a publicist - which is it?
  11. the current manager of arc had nothing to do with twilo's closure. might want to point fingers at all the 30 year old queens that couldn't maintain sunday mornings. jUnior didn't rail against ghb for nothing.
  12. SOE started off as a promotional support crew. You know, the monkets that throw flyers for upcoming events everywhere as you come out of a party. I've only had interest in one of their parties, but the ycertainly did grow. here's a challenge, how about someone throw a party that isnt hte same shit that has already happened a million times.
  13. I've seen this forum go through a lot of changes since the black and red format. As there are both clubbers and partykids alike, I'm curious as to what the feelign is about one hour sets. At clubs, the djs tend to play longer sets, with a few obvious residents playing double digit lengths. At parties, an hour is the norm. A demo is often longer than the actual performance! thoughts?
  14. webster hall promotes itself to teh lowest common denominator. if nyc was the midwest, wh would be one of thsoe chain "clubs" who needs promoters when ur advertising on the radio and tv? people ain't going out cuz parties are stale and peeps are broke. either simplify, or get creative
  15. i predict a great product of a venue. what is wrong with mixing "culture" in with a night club expereince? As long as the main dance floor is a full on dance experience, who gives a shit what happens in the rest of hte space? Why did lunatarium get nominated best dance club? Most of the parties there have been crap, but the art isntalltaions pull off the unique space. All said, I'll prolly never step foot inside. No love for techno in nyc.
  16. coming down from nyc on business. im not sure if im staying on the beach or mainland yet, but i'll have some free time. Musical interests: Minimal techno(richie hawtin, heiko laux, etc), experimental(merzbow, scanner, etc), or a good indie band (someone that might plat at tonic or knitting factory up here). I'm not anticpating that there wil actually be anything musically that will interest me, but how baout museum exhibits? I was able to see the dali dreams of venus exhibit at the museum of contemporary art, how far away is the dali museum? anythign else? just chill on the beach?
  17. that filament then acts as a resistor.
  18. nyna.org i took a look at hte list of participants for some nyna and ny cares fundraiser or something. Most of the venues on hte lsit really have no worry about fucking over other venues t oget a few more peeps. For example, bungalow 8 would not benefit. the paper trail, if any, is probably much more complicated
  19. why the hell would you use american dj lights in a nightclub? there is a reason that you only see martin, high-end, and coemar in clubs
  20. i think people can start bitching when they start paying for bandwith.
  21. "AND as far as UK support, Saddam and the terrorists aren't going to attack the UK they r going to attack the US. The US needs to lookout for our interests and Saddam is ONE of THEM. Guest what when we attack all the pu@#$Y uk countries will be on board( they're just playing politics). " perhaps you should read a book on geogrpahy, there aren't many uk countries "free thought is over rated anyway. just take a look at this message board. don't you just wish sometimes you can shut some of these guys up and TELL them what to think as oppose to letting them think for themselves? " it would be a very boring world if everyone was forced to think in one manner. i don't work in corporate america. I make a lot less money, but I at least have control over my destiny and don't have to wear some starchy shirt to work. Perhaps it is a matter of personal desires and opinions, but I hate the idea of anyone ebing ranked above anyone else. I give respect to wisdom earned from experience, but experience doesn't always guarantee wisdom. In my occupation I do have a boss, but he asks for my advice as much as I ask his. Ultimately it is his call, but then he is paying me. In hte military you do not have that option. Correct me if I'm wrong, but would a commanding officer ever ask an infantry his thoughts on a mission at hand? This is obviously not the same mission as the vietnam war or ww2. I would have fought in ww2, but would you have wanted to fight in the vietnam war?
  22. regarding the ilegality of hte war effort, this dude is a lil more eloquent than I http://www.lcnp.org/global/Iraqstatemt.3.pdf
