  1. Read Courtney Love's loooooomg article at salon.com Artists don't get shit from the labels anyway. They have always been pawns and always will be. Go indie and you never go back
  2. Jilly, next time run for the power bar. The mirror might distract him for a moment so you can slip away.
  3. i'D VOTE 3RD PARTY, but something about splitting the vote scares me in case dubya wins. To make things relevant, bush goes to bed at 9 pm. Think he understands club culture? The coke thing doesn't count. Those were "youthful indescretions."
  4. Nope, it's nitrogen. Same tanks that hopitals and labs use. N2 (l) directly coming in contact w/ skin would suk, but it is a compressed variety that vaporizes as it comes in contact w/ room temp air
  5. Sometmes djs will boost up low pressed tracks and the bass is the first to distort when that happens. On wore finely tuned systems it s more evident
  6. tsunmai w/o a doubt. If the proice wasn't so steep I'd go. There are always parties at limelight, but Mars?????????????????
  7. Actually, he prob writes most of the songs he plays. I didn't hear for an angel tho, very surprised
  8. French and cinammon toast are pretty tasty
  9. The tetris song is garbage. Very uncreative mess. The only reason why it was produced was because itwasa simple and easy formula to please the ears of simple ravers. Same goes for teh jeopardy song, et al. House o Holics is crap in this regard. One problem with remixing a lot of hteose older, familair songs is that they are mostly pop and pop has no depth. Fun song, sure, but I would prefer something that isn't so disposable. I have my sights set o na few sonic youth tracks to make some fucked up sounds with
  10. Richie Hawtin's minus orange soudns a lot like that old song, t might be that
  11. I'd say that DJs are unfairly paid with resepct ot the original artists' records they play. I wouldn't say they are overpaid, jsut demannding their fair market value. If promoters want to pay them soem sort of amount higher than minimum wage and the punters fill up the club then where is hte problem? Are athletes overpaid? Actors? I think that engineers are underpaid and we need higher salaries. You can't argue the morals of how much one profession makes. Arguing how much one makes for effort of work is something different. Sitting in front of a camera for an hour and making 5 digits is def less work than arguing a cse in court or leaning windows. eh whatever. Let's argue if people on here ask too many stupid questions. Ooh I know, what pressure do we keep our car tires? That is obviosuly so important and is clearly relevant as most people here drive to clubs.
  12. Not really, been to a few of the parties, know what htey are about. You want creativity, they got ur creativity. Not exactly hte most polished productions as the previous post siad the sound went out a couple times, but I guarantee you won't find a vibe like it.
  13. Ah, the wrench is hte fact that there are shitty crowds. Somehow, I think that anything carl cox plays will go over the head of anyone expecting/demanding hip hop and/or britney/nsync/etc songs. A shitty crowd is one where they go cuz it is the "cool" thing to do and think the music should be on their level as well. The djs only chance to truly fail is if he knew what kind of crwod came there already.
  14. The SUV's are the latest small penis syndrome "cure."
  15. I was thinking of going sunday night, but the party was suposed to be only 6 hours and trying to get the info forthe afterpartties from crazy jeff (some of you might know who I'm talking about) can be more difficult than pulling teeth. I was all set for going to the mars location this sat as it was a psy party actually held on a sat (most moved ot friday nites) but 45 bucks is way too much. tsunami and synthetic sadheus are hte majot players in this area when it comes to throwing psytrance parties. The alpha crew has done some stuff in NJ. All do outlaws. If anyone form this board choses to find more info abotu hte parties, please go with an open mind and don't pull nay stupid shit. Hitting on israeli girls is a nono cuz they all serve in the hand to hand combat military over there. The psy scene is oneof hte few pure scenes left and does not need or want any scenester riffraff causing trouble. It is not an elitist thing. They are jsut protective of what they have
  16. However carl played it, it had a decent beat underneath it. Perhaps he simply layered it over a couple other tracks as he is known to taking mildly annoying songs and work with the decent parts of them. After hearing about al the fus overhte song I looked up a ra sample of it and pased so it was my first time hearing the braindead chant. Some of you need to get over this who plays it first or last thing. Crappy music is crappy music, it doesnt matter who has it when or who played it first. We should all work to eradicate the world of crappy music. I'll start off by burning my Another Bad Creation tape. hey, stop laughing. That wasa long time ago and I was young.
  17. Asking if one can do better is a copout. Making yourself a public figure puts you in the public spotlight. DJing is not hardwork. I spin myself. Of course I am notthe greatest or anything, but the busboys taking out hte trash and cleaning the floors are working harder than someone who simply plays someone elses records for a few hours. Let's get real here. Djs are placed on some high pedastel. Why? I spin cuz I like how varios songs blend together and how placing them in a certain in a certain order makes me feel. If other people dig what I'm doing, great! If I'm being paid to do it I beter make sure my customers are satisfied. However, I will not sacrifice my ideals jsut to get paid. Djs do not create anything new. Producers do. what are we talkign about here? :0
  18. I'm lookign for a place in the hoboken/jersey city/union city/weehawken/west new york/guttenberg area ANyone interested?
  19. The theme from shaft follows me around. Can you dig it?
  20. The satellite in new york is a lil better I guess. If you lsiten to the tracks on their web page and give them a lsit saying that its on their web page and for them to look it up in their computer I imagine it would be hard to fuck up. Wo, is thata run on or what? Prashant, that is horrible advice. By going that route its okay to steal, cheat, and even kill people to get to where you want to be. DJing shouldn't be about money. It should be about sharing the music. yeah, no gigs makes it harder for us to buy vinyl, but hobbies are like that. As for who else will play for that crowd? I know you were only joking, but try to put yourself above that. What am I into? I dig most of the digweed/muir projects, cass and slide, funkedup records, oliver lieb, smith and selway, tenaglia, etc. I really want to go into production and I'm looking at some gear to start with. There isn't enough techy trance or melodic techno for me so I'm gonna have to fill those markets.
  21. Your gig there is basically a sellout. Instead of sucking it up and playing what you like in your bedroom or to a empty crowd you admit to playing stuff you don't like cuz you know it'll get you somewhere. It's obviosuly working so I'll give you props on your business sense, but on yout staying true to yourself card I must deduct a few points. I'm not really a fan of you cd listing either. What can I say, I'm picky and into different things. Bt puts out some amazing stuff and a number of his tracks will always make me melt, yet I can't get into dreaming. Since you have your established spot, try working away from the stuff you don't like to the stuff you do. DJing should be about playing for yourself first. Why are you in such a hury to get booked? www.satelliterecords.com www.throb.com
