  1. sorry dude, beans and franks here. Congrats on the out of town gigs, but realize it is not the norm.
  2. With a dsp double e degree you should then know that programming makes or breaks digital processing. Linux runs very smoothly, while microsoft...... I'm not sure what kind of technology people are expecting, but dash does have the means, knowledge, and skill to dig into the oem digital code and tweak it to his desire. New operating systems for studio equipment can optimize and streamline the gear, adding additional voices, waveforms, effects, etc. Novation's Nova OS upgrades significatnly increased polyphony and this was jsut from a new set of instructions receieved via midi. WHy can't the same principle be applied to PA equip? The concepts of a combustion engine haven't changed much since the model t, so are lamboughini's overhyped? The mclaren f-1 does indeed go faster than a yugo, no? Saleen mustang's are a lil bit quicker than stock, no? Good luck in the field. I studied ee at stevens, burned out, and dropped out. Music is my focus now. SOmething abotu a 9-5 that I can't imagine doing in my life. Deprogramming the technical stuff will take a while.
  3. There are more records out there besides what can be found at the local record stores. How can a culture be expected to grow w/o outside influences? The dominant ny sound is not supported anywhere else in the world. Our resident dj heros generally do not tour other parts of hte world. Raves continue to flourish with intense shadiness, even more subpar music ("house"-o-holics anyone?), and skyrocketed admission prices for any event with real talent playing. Sound quality always plays second fiddle. There are a lot mroe djs now than there were during hte mid 80s. Just who is deserving of being the the next big ny resident? WHoever brings in the msot heads? Britney spears sells a lot of cds too. Dance music has come a long way since then and there are many more scenes than jsut hip hop and house. For whatever reason, not as many people are going out anymore either. It sometimes takes special events or gimmicks to fill up larger rooms. Booking an anticipated out of towner can make all the diff. DOesn't the garden fill up more when Shaq visits? Any asshole can mix 2 records together, and every asshole does. It takes a lil more to stand out in the crowd, so be it if that means that you're not from here. If the locals are so deserving, they should be able ot find guest spots in other cities. SOme do. bla oonst
  4. A phazon system consists of an overall design from Steve Dash as he analyzes the materials and dimensions of the room. Roxy is obviously a different room than arc, so there were specific considerations when choosing the cabinents. Cabinent design is basically just physics. Most are built to his specs at custom shops altho there are some off the shelf units we use. Processing is done via his own analog crossovers and eq's as well as his own software in top end digital processors. Even when off the shelf cabinents are used, the programming of the processors is custom instead of using the oem programs. There will be a phazon mixer out soon which was designed from the ground up. It is currently at the metal shop phase, which basically just means it has to be packaged. Once the system is designed, the cabinents are tested and further programming is done at another location to look for any real world quirks that may slightly vary in the code. It isn't just picking out a few boxes out of a catalog and making a smiley face out of the eq, each job calls for very specific details. I'm glad y'all notice, it makes doing the installs that much more fun take it from someone that gets his hands dirty
  5. anyone rem this lil ditty eric made about 10 years ago? something about moving it, moving it? i think i can still hear it blaring from the chevy nova's at my hs. Wit hthe money he built subliminal
  6. 25 dollar ibiza parties?
  7. nah, blakkats rig is bigger. raver's will sound better in the right space, but ui need multiple stacks in that giant room. His would kick ass in that smaller room, perhaps a lil much, but it'd be controlled well.
  8. believe it or not, there are indeed people that place artisitc integrity over fame and fortune.
  9. thatrig could handle 300 peeps tops and it would be 2 point sound at that. Lunatarium needs something mucccch bigger. The blakkat rig is way bigger
  10. I so don't agree w/ the second half of this. The first half is spot on. Don't bother making a demo unless you want t oplay for that crowd, but I don't think richie hawtin's demo would get picked and i'd be hard pressed to name a better dj
  11. detroit electronic music festival 1.5 million people over memorial day w/e
  12. does anyone realize jsut how big the roxy is? Parks and wilson didn't fill up twilo's floor. Waht makes anyone think they are suddenly gonna wrap the line around the block at roxy? Economics - yes. There isn't enough supply of hte nyc clubbing crowd to demand most ofhte intl talent to supply feet on the dancefloor. I can really only think of 5 names that could fill up such a space. Even then you'd need heavy promtion and sublists. Highmay, would you rahter have an empty floor w/ music you liek or would you rather go to a smaller venue w/ a party at capacity?
  13. perhaps highmay is hungering for a more globally accepted sound. Regardless of how many people enjoy the dominant sound of nyc, you really won't find people getting into it in otehr partsd of hte world. Asia, Erope, Africa, Australia, SO. America - you won't find any ktu playlist. The only cities where the local jocks that play hte local sound can play are where the locals go to vacation - Cancun, sobe, vegas. The local sound is very simplistic in its composition. Vocals about love, synth stabs, drum rolls, etc are all very predictable. Nyc is not alone. The breaks sound from florida is reletivelyt respected only in florida. The crap they call garage in the uk will hopefully stay there. Maybe highmay is jealous that the music he enjoys listening to does not reach a larger audicne locally. I dunno. Roxy is a great room for what it is, but is def not a palce I'd party at. Twilo was the largest room I ever enjoyed. Sona in montreal had hte same feeling, but felt too big. That said, i did enjoy demf. Partying w/ 1500 people rocks. 2500 gets kinda weird, but adding a zero or 2 makes it really cool. The only dj I'd really liek to see at roxy is carl cox and he isn't even my favorite dj. Maybe highmay jsut like talking shit, hehe. Jason, I was pleasently surprised at a lot of your track selection. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I'm a techno head and was bored at a festival whcih featured mostly techno. I'm a picky fucking bastard. I'm sure I'll run into some of y'all fri. I'll be the guy that stands out:hat:
  14. are people this bent out fo shape over whether someone has knowledge of trivia? when is the clubbers episode of jeopardy? When will trivial pursuit come out with the game? Do somethign for the scene because yo uwant to and because you don't care whether anyone knows who you are. poseurs try too hard.
  15. yea, somehow I don't think he'll be playing any of the demf's
  16. i'm curious as to what "classics" this guy was playing. as for cd mixing, it's all the same. the platter may spin under the record, but the record is held still until released when cueing/matching/mixing. How about final scratch? You could have every song on the computer set to the same tempo. At that point you wouldn't have to worry about beatmatching at all. ANyone gonna tell richie hawtin he can't dj?
  17. i really don't think anyone on naughtybooth has stressed draper ever.
  18. This where teh twilo sound system was moved to. Open House, 2-1-02 @ Shelter 18/21 to drink 7 bucks wear what ya dig 10-12 Spoony D - sound logic 12-2 Mr Robb - interGROOVE US 2-4 Randy Pence - wandering wonderer 4-6 Leo Lipsztein - Intuition, NYC Shelter is located at 20 W 39th st bet 5th and 6th
