  2. even though i've never been a big fan of edgar's sounds, i have to stand up for him as a person. i've only met him occasionally in passing at grooveman/spec's or anywhere else i happened to see that guy hanging out taking note of who was playing elsewhere in town. the guy loves his music, and stands up for what he believes. now i'm not sure what happed here, nor do i really care, but the reason i want to join this conversation is due to the fact that loyalty has come into play here. i don't attend space on a regular basis, and thats due to loyalty. the only time i come into that club is if a guest dj that i want to see is playing that night. why you ask? maybe it's due to the fact that i'm a pretty normal looking guy, i don't toss around $$ like i'm trying to impress anyone. i go out for one reason.... MUSIC! i'm a music lover first and foremost. i don't give 2 shits about the glam, the drugs, the fake tits, the muscle boys and the whole nine yards associated with it. and because of this reason 99.9% of the time that equates in me and my roomate standing outside the club waiting for an hour for somebody to finally let us in.if at all. (even if the place is half empty) now due to the fact that i work for boxed/globalunderground and one way or another know most of the guest dj's that space brings in, i'm usually taken care of eventually, but most of the time even being on the guestlist, it's a hassle. one time i got an email from danny tenaglia when he was asking questions about using our messageboard, and he mentioned to me his distaste for space's door policy on nights that he plays there. i have however noticed since he mentioned that to me, a change seems to have taken place on nights when he's in town. but, how about the rest of the nights?? if i turned up tonight wearing sneakers or jeans, i doubt the cops out front would even let me to get in line for the club, let alone get in! i would think danny tenaglia would know a bit what he's talking about with the "be yourself" vibe an attitude. but then again, who am i to offer suggestions? now i'm gonna tell you a bit about loyalty. rain. yes where the former groovejet piped in the REAL talent in this town! for the past 2 weekends that i've gone, i've been treated like a king. ropes open as soon as i walk in, guestlist is taken care of immediately. no problems with whatever i'm wearing. i could show up w/ underwear on my head, and i'd still be sorted and treated like a person and not a dollar bill. so you wanna know loyalty? guess where i'll be every friday night? yep, rain. being treated w/ respect. reguardless of who's on the decks. now thats loyalty both ways. show some, receive some.
  3. you know, the only thing that could even make me think about attending this years ultra would be a full live set by new order on the main stage. and by full set, i mean the whole 2+ hour setlist they've been playing live recently.

    Orlando info

orlando is kicking ass lately. first place you need to check out is AKA upstairs at the pine street lounge. saturday nights are the time to visit. regular residents vary from week to week. rotating between dj three, tim skinner w/ barry robb (have several tracks signed to digweed's bedrock label) and a couple of special guests sprinkled inbetween. three is scheduled to play on dec 22, but last night i heard he's now scheduled to play miami? i guess it's possible for him to do both. another place you wanna check out is a small bar/club called knock knock. they have a wicked resident named guillermo. this guy rocks deep funky house. a little bit tribally at times. good stuff. if they have a guest, icon can go off. they have a smaller EAW system in there. sound is pretty directional. sounds good on the floor, crap by the bars. dj booth pearched high above the floor, and crowd can really go off in there. i know they have some special guests coming up, but off the top of my head i can't remember. balance dj's. lee burridge might be there on dec 22. but don't hold your breath. that date may have been changed once again. yet another place to check out is elements. nice venue, they seem to change the config around every time i go. last time the booth was on the floor, w/ ton's of dance floor. time before that booth was upstairs w/ tons of couches. either way, the place is tight. side note on elements. i know they cancelled a gig last night and moved it to tampa, but i'm not sure if that was a venue closure or a promoter issue. so that venue may actually be closed now? if you fancy driving the hour 15 min to tampa, i HIGHLY recommend a venue called rain lounge. this in my opinion is the BEST thing going in florida right now! friday nights is when you wanna go, residents are busto and matty usually w / special guests. dec 28 (or 29?? whichever is friday) is jeno and garth. venue is sublime, indoor/outdoor heaven. TRUST ME!! DON'T MISS THIS PLACE!! most of all check for flyers at the music shops as soon as you get into orlando. that's your best bet. the staff at these shops are extremely friendly and will point you in the right direction. recommendations: vinyl frontier, drop shop, underground records, venus and mars. have fun!
  7. get him steve lawler back as a resident at naive.
  8. when i went to the groovejet party at conference to see ashley casselle and terry francis, i stopped in for a while to hear christopher lawrence. his track's were ok at best, but his mixing was the worst i've heard since i made the mistake of going to shadow to hear (a great producer, but the absolute worst dj) one of the guys from humate. myself and steve gerrard were gasping at each other cause lawrence was so bad. later taylor took over and even though i thought his set that night sounded a bit dated also, his mixing was absolutely amazing! drew if you wanna book some quality west coast talent, please consider taylor next time over christopher lawrence. as for jules.... you'll most likely find me at pop life, as thats the best music in town tonight!
  9. intimate venue....kinda nasty.... did you miss the way digweed owned groovejet baby?!? this is taking place soon. and diggers is actually a part investor in the venue. last night i heard they've just installed a new system, and either plan on or have also just upgraded the booth. i tried to go in last night, but plans fell through at the last min cause DHM was doing the best jimmy van m deep classic sound, closing at rain.
  10. thats the funniest shit i've heard in a long time!!!!
  11. i almost cried when i saw what they did to groovejet. then i just got over it. the music was spot on, and after around 3 the "be there, be scene" people thined out and from that point on it became a great evening. budious is the best thing to happen to this town in a long time!! can't wait to hear jask next weekend. even though i honestly HATE what they did to this club, i will be back just about every week to support the budious boy from st pete! (except christmas weekend cause i'll be out of town) i really need to vent on the venue though, but i'll just keep it to myself. all i will say is, can somebody please turn down the lights a bit. i feel like a vip crayola factory blew up in there. no, i take it back. the only thing i should say is: "i'd probably like it, if i didn't know what it used to be" i'll steal that quote from a friend of mine.
  12. tis true. VERY low key. plus a couple of others at random times throughout the year.
  13. hey vaughan and stacy, thanks for the concern!! feelin pretty peachy now. (i'm mr fast recovery!) thanks to some wicked pain killers and muscle relaxants. can you say 18 hours a day of sleep for 4 days in a row!
  14. due to a lovely back injury and ER visit last week, i managed to miss both tenaglia and mig's sets. fuck me. but i have to make up for it with derrick carter.
  15. one way or another i'd probably piss off some of my friends by missing a set or 2 in a couple of those rooms. i'd stick it out in dakota bar, then catch three inbetween steve and paolo's set. by the way, speaking of the dakota bar residents, both paolo and steve should be done w/ their new mixes soon. and zabiela has finished his newest double for commercial release early next year.
  16. there are 2 bedrock mixes. (bedrock mix and dub) both are sick! it's probably my fav bedrock mix to date. reminds me of the sounds sasha and john would play back in the mid 90's. one of the bini and martini mixes is on digweed's kiss show from bedrock w/ sasha that aired the first week of november. this set has a few of my other current favs too, 'shed my skin' and the emerson mix of 'star catching girl'. too bad the track fades off before it picks up.
  17. i hope it's a monthly surprise!!
  18. tenatively chris will be playing in tampa on dec 27. details are still being worked out. he just sent me a couple of his new cd's. can you say BAD ASS SETS?!!? chris is a super cool guy and one hell of a kick ass dj. i'd love to hear him and jimmy go head to head again like at groove jet a few years back. look for his new bedrock mix cds coming out early next year.
  19. just to clarify, nigel richards will be playing w/ three in orlando. as it stands now, nigel will open up, and three will be the closer. but billy could change that around....
  20. lee was sickly sick!!!!!!!!!! backdoor bambi this monday?? PLEASE SAY YES!
  21. then miguel migs on nov 30 at rain for the kick off of the new friday night budious parties!!! can you say monthly naked residency??
  22. since all the big boys are gonna be here anyway. i'll throw a couple of small party ideas at ya. night 1: steve gerrard james zabiela paolo mojo jonathan lisle night 2: bill patrick matt licata rob dowell tom amoroso the future my friends.... recognize fools.
  23. just thought i'd clarify on here that i'm not jon cowan. just a friend and supporter of jon and rama over at bliss. i just wanted to pass along his words about the event last night (which by the way was a blast!) my name is james sheridan. a few of you may know that i'm the head mod over on globalunderground's messageboard. sorry for the misunderstanding! by the way, jon does post here from time to time, under the name jcbliss.
