  2. First off - a big thanks for Clubplanet and Vegasrey and Lalate for all the info and hook-up. No problems with finding my name on the list and the best was was being comped! which I didn't expect at all. Much appreciated guys!!!!!!!! Got there around 4am and Joey Mazzolla wasa going off and the crowd was loving it. This guy is a dj in every sense of the word. He knew how to keep the energy up and read the crowd and worked the f**k out of the EQs perfectly! And the best addition was a few scratching moments to build upon the breakdowns. Most djs that would attempt this might distract from the flow because it's very unusual by most of the "name" djs to do this, but Joey has the skills to make the track "his own" by adding it. YEAHHH JOEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the tracks he played included: -David Guetta - The World Is Mine (F**ck Me I'm Famous Edit) -Yves Deruyter's - Born Slippy (which is pretty much a re-edit of Underworld's Born Slippy)...the dancefloor *loved* the breakdowns of just the chords of "Born Slippy", cheering each time. ...and when he came back on at 6am... -Chris Lake - Changes ft. Laura V (vocal club mix) with the Daft Punk "around the world" vocal snippet addition -track sample Depeche Mode's Just Can't Get Enough -track with vocal "Rock The Discotech" -track sampling guitar riffs of Guns & Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine Now from 4:50-6am, I was suprised with what happened. Joey got off the decks and two other djs took over. Now let me preface this by stating I'm a little bit more concentrated on the music than your average club-goer b/c I used to do freelance track reviews, and also involved in 4 music messageboards since I began clubbing in 2001 almost every weekend in NYC while I lived there from 98-07. Also used to be a dj/promoter in the Baltimore/DC rave scene of the early 90s. So I listen a lot more for tracks that are played and the technical skills of the djs. Both djs during this hour were technically flawless...mixing was perfect. But they styles of music they played just didn't fit into the night at that time and kind of lowered the energy/vibe and a lot of people left. To go from Joey who is turning out hard house, funky beats and peak hour tracks to then go into chill house, progressive and someone minimal techno was suprising...especially since it's a touristy crowd as compared to music enthusiasts who would follow these type of djs to hear them. I bet many people there were indeed "educated" as to what these styles, hearing them for the first time last night, but I heard a few people around me say "i'm not enjoying this right now". The first dj played tracks with lush melodies similar to what you might hear from Sasha, Anthony Pappa and Lance Cashion, which I def. love listening to as well. The second dj after the first played for about 35-40 minutes played chill house to start out that you might hear on the Naked Music label or hear Julius Paap spin. I would say both were moreso for a pool party setting here in Vegas or a lounge instead of a bigroom dancefloor. Then he started with some minimal sounds with a heavy bass instead of beats backing them. I loved all of it, but people weren't really dancing at this point and it was kind of too mellow at this hour of the night. In NYC like Pacha or Studio Mezmor, they would put these two before having Joey take over for the rest of the night, or maybe have one of them end his set late morning. There were no vocals at all and the energy of the tracks was just smooth without any peaks. When Joey came back on the energy kicked back up again and had everyone dancing. Overall I had a great time and sorry if I sound a little critical, but just my perspective of the night's flow. Staff is very friendly and courteous, the staff handling the bottle service was very attentive which is a major plus. Crowd was friendly and fun. I met a bunch of people from all over the U.S. Def. recommend anyone visiting Vegas that wants to party to hit this place up. Even would say sleep before and go around 3 or so because it's open late into the morning with the terrace opening up as well Jonathan Peters and Boris for the Memorial Day Festivities are going to destroy it at Empire Ballroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -M

  6. Thanks for the info...a few more questions... 1. Where's the guestlist sign-up for Empire...is it worth signing up on...line that long at 4am? 2. I know RL is kind of small (400 capacity?)...gotta get really dressed up for that place? Really like Nick Warren so def. hittin' it up. -m
  7. Ok, I have two questions before I head off Saturday to Vegas for a week long conference and have the weekend to party since I don't need to be at the conference until 4pm Monday... 1. Empire Ballroom - for Saturday/Sunday morning - good time to get there is about 3:30-4am right? Was thinking of going to this instead of the big casino clubs like Tao, Light, etc. 2. Anyone every been to the Beatles Revolution Lounge at the Mirage? Nick Warren is there Sunday night and I was thinking about going to that? Any opinions of that place? Anyone know of any other good stuff for Saturday night - any djs in town worth seeing? I didn't see anything really thus far... Thanks for any help!!! -M
