  1. I thought the purpose of this thread was to point out an article in the paper about "The Miami Sound"... as for "electro house"....sub-genres are just confusing...I dont think its worth getting upset about...and I certainly dont think it is a "slap in the face"...The fact is, most art is inspired and influenced by something else...Kraftwerk inspired Arthur Baker and Bambatta and so on and so on.... My earliest influence as a DJ or producer was Electro...(including DynamixII ) so I hold a very special place in my heart for electro.. The way I see it is, this electro-house thing is just a sub-genre...just like the many others before it (tribal, deep, proggressive, acid, gospel, garage, hip-house, mimimal, tech, etc.) It is just a sound...not a movement...and if I had to guess, I dont think it will be around for very long... I would be more upset about the DJ Laz's of the world carrying on the Electro tradition... and...about this "Miami Sound" Although I was mentioned in this article...I wasn't interviewed for it...I have no idea what the Miami Sound is...Ralph and I have been trying to figure that out for over 15 years already..lol....They were asking us about the Miami Sound back when there werent ANY clubs playing house in Miami...I am very proud of my Miami roots and always try to make it part of everything I do..but I am not sure what the Miami sound is...back when Ralph and I started making house records there was certainly ZERO house music coming from Miami...Most of our influences were from NYC, Chicago, Detroit, etc...We interpreted that into our own sound (which we called MURK) Somewhere along the line people started asking us how we felt about being responsible for the "Miami Sound"...to this day we have no idea what that means... Just the fact that Acosta and Ivano are both being asked about it probably means nobody knows what the hell it is..lol...Those two guys couldnt play more different from eachother... The way I look at it is...the more attention EDM gets...The better it is for everyone... FUCK THE LABELS!!! GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD MUSIC!!!!

I disagree with most of this post... for starters...the reason hip-hop nights are succesful is pretty simple....It is THE most popular form of music among (the majority of) the age-group that comprises "clubbers"....Hip-hop is and has been main-stream for some time now...It is popular top-40 music and played at every main-stream club in the US...It is on MTV and radio 24 hours a day... The pool you are drawing from when you do a hip-hop night is MUCH bigger than when you do a dance music night....I dont think it has anything to do with good business heads...as a matter of fact, I think it takes a much better business man to be able to make a succesful night out of a genre of music that is NEVER on MTV or the radio...and purely exists in a sub-culture that seeks it out..(not to mention I think its much cooler!!!) I also think a DJ throwing "floor-fillers" is not the one who is helping things...Its the ones pushing the envelope between the floor-fillers that help....Too many DJs stick to the popular tracks.. Yes, as a pro, you must cater to your audience and read the dancefloor...but the way I see it...what is important is the records you play between the floor-fillers.... what seperates the great DJs from the rest is how far they are able to spread out their floor-fillers and how far they can push the envelope in between them...that is how a dancefloor is educated...that is how a scene is created and nurtured...A DJ's goal should be to always get away with as much as they can without loosing the audience's interest..That is how a DJ creates their OWN style and their OWN sound and identity...That way they aren't lumped in with every other cat playing the same 25 songs every night... I think more of this...and less of what you speak of.. would be much more helpful in the long run... (ok Im done!! Ive fallen into a CJ binge....must break free!!! )

Its cause deep down people dont want to hear the truth. The "scene" for anyone who does not make their living by it, is a farce. A way to escape reality. The dj's job and in turn the promoter's and club owner's jobs, are to create that environment where we can go to a different world where we dont have to worry about daily responsabilities. Going against the status quo, Saleen kinda shatters that idyllic view people have of the "scene" therefore, people dont like him. Pretty simple really... what is this "truth" you speak of? Jackie, you seem to be very much into this issue...but I dont get your angle..actually, I dont even get the issue.. It seems as if you are saying that Saleen says things that others are afraid to say....or people dont want to know, or are hiding but what? is he really saying anything? When I read his posts they seem like unfinished thoughts that go nowhere...with hints that he has confidential information that gives him credibility....but in essence they say nothing.. I know you are a smart person...help me understand where you are coming from... The issue really doesn't have much to do with Nick or what he says. I agree that says a whole lot of nothing and does it to stir the pot, dropping bits of info that he is fed to back him up. I think that what i have said is clear enough on what my stance is on the "scene". The people on the dancefloor dont want to be concerned with the business aspect of a club. It shatters their concept that their safe haven isn't governed by the same rules controlling the very aspects of their lives they seek to escape. Also, help me understand how everyone perceives the that the scene is failing? Who comprises of the "scene"? The scenesters that go out, win over the door guy, get in free on the list, get breaks on drinks, etc......how are they supporting the scene? Really is their presence alone sufficient to support the amount of money it costs to to book the DJ, pay the staff, provide the liquor and still make money for the owners? Ok granted they are probably not the majority of patrons in the club but how does that qualify them to speak for the rest? Aren't the people that govern and control the scene the ones that open their wallets when they walk thru those doors? The ones that order bottles, get drunk and listen to DJ Gofukyaself. Help me out a little here.... One more thing - these in the biz people that everyone falls all over themselves to befriend, do you really think that they will really care or remember who you are when you stop coming to the club for a length of time? I agree with you on the fact that most people shouldnt be (and dont want to be) aware of the business side of this thing...A dance club should be an escape..and what makes this music great is that you can escape through it..."leave your troubles on the dancefloor!" I think most in this biz try to keep that off these boards...and that is why they get upset when people want to drag it out on here...If people choose to look into the business side and even go as far as making allegations..it is only natural that industry folk will come on here and set the record straight (as much as they may not want to do it) As for the "scenesters" and the "scene" etc.... I think you are looking at this as if it were high school or something...You sound like the "rebel" kid that is telling the "nerds" not to hang with the "popular" kids cause they aren't going to invite you to the prom at the end of the year anyway.... You even go as far as calling people brown-nosers? This is a messageboard dedicated to dance music, events, clubs, nightlife etc...I dont see how "brown-nosing" or "status-quo" applies here....We are all fans of, what in essence, is a counter-culture...You sound like you are very "anti-establishment" ...but I think you are barking up the wrong tree here.

Nick, I know you outside of this board...so I dont get as frazzled as some when you go nuts on here...I know you do this for fun and I believe you actually keep the board interesting at times..(even if 90% of what you post is strictly BS to start controversy) Now...when people speak of "supporting the scene" I think you are missing the point..You said you love House music, thats what you need to support...the fact is, as with any art form, if people dont support it...it wil die....We dont have many "house music clubs" left. Art is art...business is business...but they need each other to survive in this particular case (and many others) Its an old problem.. by the way...you line millionaires' pockets all the time...specifically the NY JETS...lol...stop hating kid! you know better...

  14. Saleen...for a guy who doesnt go out...you sure have a lot of info and predictions....anyway Ralph has EVERY right to put MURK on any night he DJs or record he produces...he is 50% of Murk and always has been....Much like Space used the Murk logo on Ralphs flyer for last week when he played there....was that misleading? As for my CD.....in case you hadnt noticed, the party's name and logo is from my CD....and much like John Digweed did a CD for Fabric or Danny Tenaglia did a CD for Back To Basics...I did a Made In Miami CD...which had a tour linked to it that I have been doing for the last 8 months....and also developed into this night.... I DO NOT PLAY AT MANSION I AM THE RESIDENT AT SPACE ON SATURDAYS (when Im here) I think everyone is pretty clear on that...I know I am I support these guys 100% and this party was my concept originally (hence the name) Ralph has been my partner for the last 15 years in MURK and he can use it all he wants...just like he did at Space last week and at Crobar for the last 2 years (noone gave a shit then I guess) by the way....if your predictions of the end of dance music come to fruition...what will you do with yourself?? your life will be reduced to only being the REAL you!!! imagine that!!!! no more message board bravado or attention for you!!! You better hope you're wrong...I don't think you can survive without your CJ persona...you would just be that weird dude Nick...
  15. LOL...nice try buddy...Im sure Cedric appreciates your efforts..but Ive been doing the main room at Space for 6 years...I think we've done alright with the ladies... You will be happy to know that I won't be at Space for the next 4 weeks so I guess the girls should come flocking in...lol Look not for nothing but, fuck Cedric hes french and dont appreciate shit. But he pulls in the bitches. I know you have been playing there for 6 yrs and i was there for 5hrs on sat, i heard all the bombs u dropped, El tigre, lil bit of dirty cash lil bit of gypsy woman and i can appreciate the set but, the sausage party that space had was unacceptable. Like i said maybe the door guy should have made a better call and let ladies in free once he saw that it was all dudes,Or it could be chicks arent diggin your darkness anymore as much as the guys do. I think u know what im talkin about, Space has seen better days, Hey, aint that why u moved on in the first place. I know the OG loyalist are gonna say what their gonna say but I aint bashing u dude maybe u need to step it up Remember it has been "6 yrs" Im always trying to step it up....and 6 years or not, those that know me know I take every gig as if it was my first...I do what I do and appreciate it to the fullest....I love that room, and I just got back..so I'm going to try to make these the better days of Space...hope you can join us...feel free to bring some ladies
  16. LOL...nice try buddy...Im sure Cedric appreciates your efforts..but Ive been doing the main room at Space for 6 years...I think we've done alright with the ladies... You will be happy to know that I won't be at Space for the next 4 weeks so I guess the girls should come flocking in...lol
  17. I tip my cap to Gina The party will not be the same without her... Thanks for dancing all these years...always could count on it Gina & I doing what we do ;D
  18. HEE HEE HEE HA HA HO HO!!! I can't lie.....I'm excited! ;D
  19. Saleen, come on dude....thats not cool...I never rag on you on this board when you screw up my order at the drive-thru window...remember last week when I ordered the number 2 combo and I specifically told you I wanted a bacon and cheese potato instead of fries? You gave me fries anyway...did I complain? did I ask to speak to your manager? did I post about it on CJ? NO! see my friend...thats what makes me the better man anyway... to all my beloved Space heads...worry not Daddy is coming home ;D (and hes stoked!)
  20. I'm a Guiness man myself oh yeah....and it will be nice to come back home ;D
  21. Last time I went to Shine was a few months ago when Mark played for the first time. That was actually the last Saturday I had off!! Luckily for me, I had this past Saturday off and Mark happened to be the guest at Shine again. I was blown away by his set last time and I can say the same thing for this time. It is truly inspiring to hear him play and feel the energy he puts into it. He understands house music and where it comes from and it is evident in every single track he plays. He plays tracks that are over ten years old and nobody in the room even realizes it. He blends them in and makes them sound as fresh and innovative as they did 10 years ago. I highly recommend to ANYONE that has not heard Mark to do so ASAP. If you like house music or have an interest in it....or you are an up and coming DJ...you NEED to hear this guy. He will show you what true house music is...where it came from...and why it is a feeling! Props to Jon Shine for bringing Mark and providing him with a great room and system to do what he does. Props to Mark for keeping it real and being a nice guy. I'll be there next time Mark is there. OG
  22. hey men thanks a lot for your help you know it's really hard to get tracks from big djs so now i feel so much better that i know how to get your tracks i've bean try to get them for so long but nobody wanted to give them to me i will definitely go to your website and call balance promote please put word for me and also i've bean try to produce some records in my studio but it's really hard i would really love to know how you do it only if it's ok with you of course so maybe one day i can have my first records sign on your label let me know I don't know what this is about, or what he is trying to say, but I do know this...This could quite possibly be THE longest run-on sentence in the history of Cooljunkie!!...Pod can we get a verification? oooh the French...OOH LA LA!!!
  23. That's true but there's a huge difference between not being perfect and outright deception. It's funny....this thread has been viewed 250 times but look how few responses. If we did this at Space or Suite, imagine the outrage. A couple of weeks ago when we had Ali there, we were very careful to let people know that it was not going to be both Dishes. We think it's important that people get what they pay for. Dade...you are hilarious If I were you I would wait until I had been at Space for more than 15 minutes before I started publicly standing up for its honest marketing and business tactics... Its pretty unproffesional for you to come on a public messageboard and slag off other clubs and promoters...especially when you have worked with all of them (and not that long ago) But..hey...Im not surprised....when the boss says "post something" I guess you have to do it... Your claims that the parties did better than they would have otherwise are ridiculous (as far as our party goes) We have over 60 promoters promoting Mansion on Sundays...One idiot sent out that email Saturday night by mistake...and followed it with two retractions (which you didnt bother to mention) Its funny to hear you regurgitate others' propaganda... Good luck buddy...youve always been held in high regard by myself and most in the local industry...don't go changing now dissapointed, OG
  24. MADE IN MIAMI IS... born and bred here.. something we can all be proud of... a chance for us to give back... an opportunity to offer something new... our OWN thing.. something WE can control and develop... a party started for the right reasons... a group of individuals coming together with a common goal... something we've been thinking and talking about for a long time... a party we hope will continue to develop into something you guys can count on and take pride in... Made in Miami is Murk! Sunday is our day… Mansion is our home… OK..NOW....WHO'S COMING WITH ME?!?!?!
