  1. vicious had to go to columbia in south america for a gig and asked to move it to another date.
  2. question is..if flash, flex, biz markie, or kid capri came on for one set maybe 45 minutes thats all, would it be phat or flat. A lot of the music in the downtown scene is hip hop, R&B and especially old skool. I'm not talkin ghetto parties..I'm talkin the so called A crowd..even old skool rappers like RUN DMC, DUGGIE FRESH, SUGARHILL GANG etc rip it up for a predominately white crowd all over the world. Lets say even if LIL KIM walked on stage and ripped it, I'm asking would it be cool as a novelty or not...
  3. JV had a gig in columbia. eddie baez replaces him for tomorrow. JV comes back on august 23rd going on right after the dmc finals which starts at 8pm. Daniel woo will be scheduled with jv if not the 23rd then in sept.
  4. In the last 4 months, a lot of music magazines from dj times, ministry, and more are all doing feature stories on grandmaster flash. I see he's one of the guest djs all over the world at the electronic festivals.in germany, japan etc..I know he's considered one of the fathers of hip hop..the mans been doin it for 27 years. Even at the music events here in ny..there's an area for old skool. He gets the props from a lot of music producers, remixers and dj's. How do you feel about him doing a set at the roxy...
  5. here's the deal...warner brothers who own's the show "change of heart" calls up the roxy and says "in all the places they have gone around the country they have never..never casted as many people for the show as they did at the roxy..77 to be exact..The said the women were incredible and the men were very goodlooking..do you mind if we come back and cast people for the fall season..we only want to do this at the roxy...so we said "no problem". A small table is set up before you walk into the main room where the clubplanet table used to be and you simply walkup and sign up to register...no big fucking deal..if you thinks its a little cheesy, fine so on that night we're serving cheese and crackers at the table compliments of the roxy..what I'm saying is..just have fun with it...but if you remember the last time they were here...The hottest women and goodlooking men turned out in droves and thats a fact....As far as the music is concerned...MELVYN MOORE,resident dj and a&r for subliminal session nyc will be spinning along with RIZZO who's back from ibizia where he spun with ERIC MORILLO.. plus the ny debut of WHO DA FUNK" performing 'SHINY DISCO BALLS". Immediately after the performance, WHO DA FUNK(who are also dj's from england) will spin for 2 hours....SO AS FAR AS A NIGHT OF MUSIC...YOU GOT IT...come on relax, enjoy yourself, have some cheese and crackers. you might get hungry with all that dancing...
  6. EDDIE BAEZ one of the original sf dj's is going to rip shit up this friday. RIZZO who's away in ibizia with ERIC MORILLO will be back next week. Eddie on a personal note is one of the nicest gentlemen in this business. He's produced some great tracks that are timeless. No handcuffs this friday eddie....fuckin kill'em...
  7. absofuckinglutely....not only that but I think the idea of taking four dj's and giving everyone an hour on the main floor should be done more often..its not a contest, its just a night of great music. I don't know about everyone else, but I enjoyed the four different styles, the four different vibes, the different kinds of energy. someone's more trance, more tribal, more vocal, more progressive, more soulful..etc I think it could be great...this way everyone gets a shot to be part of this over a period of time..put their names on the radio..print up invitations..blow it up..showcase the talents of a lot of people...what do you think?
  8. On a personal note..When I was told who the winner was by rizzo..I said mike please double check. I had hoped it would be either justin or mike only for the fact that I've met them and like them both. This is not to take away from corey or daniel but mike and justin are just great guys..so rizzo double checked again. The results were the same. The judges felt that on this night, as close as it was, woo had a slight edge. These judges are serious music industry people. They were not going to be influenced by who brought more people for support or how the dance floor was reacting. They listened, and felt each dj in respect to his music. They said great things about all of them. All of them in certain areas shined. I'm going to try and get a breakdown from each judge as to what their evaluation was individually and pass it on to each dj. Maybe something the judges might tell a dj about his performance might get a reaction like.."you know you're right...I didn't realize I did that..thanks.." Either way. I think some doors could open for the four djs to do a remix, produce a track and get someone to listen to it. I've never met Daniel Woo, but if he won based on his mixing ability, creativity, and programing..then I say congratulations to you. As I said before, there were no losers here. Everyone was a winner..The vibe at the roxy was amazing. The diversity and energy in the music was phenominal. For 4 hours straight, these dj's kept the crowd rockin' caped off by vicious who came down for no money to show his respect to these breakthrough dj's by doin the one thing he does best...play his music. What a fucking incredible night..
  9. On behalf of MICHAEL RIZZO who produced this night, we thank the four dj's COREY JASPER, DANIEL WOO, JUSTIN HIGGINS and MIKE BUGOUT for a great night of music. We know you guys worked hard and lived and breathed your set from the time your names were announced. Special thanks to JOHNNY VICIOUS for coming down last night to support these dj's and laying down a great set after 4am.. Thanks to the judges JOEY RUIZ from CUTTING RECORDS. MELVYN MOORE dj/a&r from SUBLIMINAL RECORDS, JASON OJEDA dj/producer, BORIS dj/producer, JOSH HARRIS programer/engineer. The contest was judged on a point system from 1-10 based on each category...programing, mixing skills and creativity. It was so rediculously close when all the points were added. Each judge went over and over his reasoning for his decision until finally it was all agreed as to who the winner was. The winner by only 2 points was DANIEL WOO On a personal note..you guys stepped up to the plate. several million people heard your names on the radio. You played the main floor of one of the biggest venue's in NY. I lot of people know who you are now especially people in the music industry...you guys were all winners..I believe this was an important night not so much as to who the winner was, but to recognize talent that's right here in our own backyards. Maybe last night at the ROXY, thats who the real winner was..
  10. Saw JV last night..said he'll come down tonight and after bugouts set throwdown some tracks...The man is one the most genuine real people you'll ever meet..More and more industry people coming down tonight...can't wait...
  11. After seeing this post, and with the roxy stage crew coming back tomorrow in full force, i've asked the roxy management to put out the concert stage for this night. Some of the judges coming down for this event are from SUBLIMINAL records, CUTTING records, the program director of KTU, MIXER magazine, plus dj's, producers, remixers and more. Tomorrow should be fucking bananas. Good luck to everyone...
  12. love to see the original stage crew in full effect this friday..

Also there is a private mixer magazine party that going on before 11pm with tons of people in the music industry. They're all staying after 11pm to party with everyone. MIKE RIZZO goes on at 11pm till 4am then SHAWN INK takes over at 4am as the ROXY stays open till whenever. Looks like its going to be another nice night out at the ROXY.
  16. Tomorrow its free before midnight for everyone. Just get there by 11 and your guaranteed to get in
  17. eddie stopped by to say hello to rizzo, then was hanging out with everyone
  18. you're right..you got a date with destiny..shot for shot, mano y mano at the bar you name the time...on me
  19. My mistake..the name was RAVERX.. not LA RAVER. at 2 in the morning i thought I read the name was LA RAVER. I agree with you in that a demo cd could be produced in a studio with perfect mixes, perfect everything..the true test is live in person. An example of this is what I've heard about LOUIE DEVITO..one of the top selling dance compilations on billboard, but I've heard in person has been taken off the turntables and the house dj went back on. I've heard this more then once..The problem is we don't have the time to do a live continuous contest every week to narrow it down to four. It would take to long and other things are planned. I don't believe for a minute there was something shady going on as to Chris Lewis. I believe all six finalists were contacted to tell them they were in the last six chosen. Rizzo called me several times if I new who RAVERX was because that person was in the final six but nobody knew who it was. I think Chris should have spoken to me if he felt there could be a problem which maybe would've had a slant on his demo..what the problem is I don't know since it was all about the demo cd as far as I am concerned. If you're around friday, lets have a drink and talk in person
  20. I can understand your loyalty, friendship or just the fact that you like and respect chris lewis as a dj, but rizzo called me up to ask me who several demo cd's belonged to because they didn't have a name or perhaps a phone number attached to it. There was no reason for chris not to put his name on it. when it came down to the final 6 djs his info said LAraver with a phone number. The people who listened to the cd's asked who LAraver was. At that point since he was one of the 6, don't you think they should know who the dj is. The reason mike said "oh, i thought it was you" was not a negative conotation, but rizzo thought chris was going to turn in a cd and he didn't. let me ask you a question, do you think JP, JV, DT or for that matter any well known dj who's been around for years should enter a dj breakthrough contest under a different name when the breakthrough night was designed for little known, unknown, garage dj's who have the talent but perhaps for whatever the reason couldn't get a break. do you think thats fair for a ringer to enter this contest and win. with all due respect to chris, (who has been nothing but a gentlemen) but with his credentials, his 13 years of spinning, i don't know if he fits into the category for this kind of night. This is all after the fact. Bottom line ..chris and the others were judged on the cd alone..thats it. as I mentioned before, the mix show personel were looking for something perhaps that chris had on the cd but just wasn't quite there..but all of this is subjective anyway..its just an opinion..you say the glass is half full, I say the glass is half empty..we're both right.. Ask yourself a question. Maybe, just maybe. is it possible he really didn't make it to the final four because maybe his cd wasn't exactly on point to someones ears..do you think its a possibility or no matter what anyone says there is absolutely no room for any reasonable doubt in your mind.
  21. In responce to your post...This DJ breakthrough night was set up as a good thing for local talent to be recognized. There was to be no favoritism towards anyone regardless of friendships or relationships but let it be judged on the merits of the demo. As far as Justin Higgins is concerned. I saw Justin at the roxy and said don't forget about bringing in the cd friday as I have told at least ten other dj's. He told me he didn't want to submit one because of all the grief D and him would get on the boards. I told him..thats bullshit..you're a fucking talented dj as is a lot of other djs and you'll never know what you could have done unless you try..fuck other peoples opinion..just make a cd as best as you can. I finally convinced him to do it. From what I understand it was down to 6 cd's then down to 5 then after listening over and over to the last 5, the final decision was made as to who the four are. I was notified as to who the four were and felt great about the fact that justin was chosen on the merits of his music selection, arrangement, creativity and mixing ability for what the sanctuary mix show programing directors were looking for.The fact that he wasn't going to submit a demo at all because of public opinion would have been a sin as it would have been a sin if chris lewis didn't submit one. There was no influence by anyone, by D, by CP boards, by Rizzo or by myself. If that was the case then one could say Mike bugout was chosen because he has a lot of friends on the board. Mike bugout had a great demo..bottom line. The decision was ONLY based on the demo cd .Chris Lewis is a very talented Dj. He was one of the 6 finalists He did do a great job at the roxy on the nights he played on the main floor as well as the cp lounge. I believe. For whatever reason the four were picked, who the fuck knows..maybe it was down to a coin toss. Either way, we believe in the idea of giving local talented dj's an opportunity to shine and we only hope that other clubs pick up on this. We intend to do this again and again. And when the next breakthrough night comes any dj can enter again. As far as this first dj breakthrough night on friday july 26th..GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE....
  22. In responce to you saying KTU SHIT. What do you think the term remix is. When you get a cd, there's alway a radio mix and perhaps different remixes on it The sanctuary show on ktu is not the radio mix show. The radio mix is usually more pop. Depending on who's doing the sanctuary show, the music could range from tribal, progressive, vocal house remixes and trance. Oakenfold has a mix show on ktu as well as tiesto coming up in the future. Vicious, hex hector, tsettos and quite a few other producers, remixers are featured on the sanctuary show. I think you should choose carefully your words and not offend anyone especially when you would like to enter this type of dj breakthrough night. As the old saying goes "be kind to the people you meet on the way up...because you're gonna meet the same people on the way down." I don't necessarily agree with some of the things that KTU does so in that case, at that moment I change the channel. Most of the time I listen to cd's of music I like..I suggest as a professional dj, you should be respectful of all types of music and be true to your own sound. I believe you really know this also but some people are afraid of getting blasted on the cp board so they go with what seems to be the posted opinion instead of what they feel..Your term "good music" is subjective. it's good for you..look at billboards top 25 of any week,..you'll find sometimes 18 of the 25 top dance songs are hip hop & r&b. Ask the people who are into hip hop and r&b what they think of your "good music"...This music prejudice is stupid...anyway..thats my 2 cents
  23. I'm getting a kick out of all these dan wilson posts. Why not do a night at the roxy where dan wilson will reveal himself. You know "come meet and greet the real dan wilson. A tribute..perhaps DAN WILSON FOR MAYOR rally..could be a lot of fun..His name is becoming bigger than ...."PHAZON"
  24. WELL FOLKS HERE IT IS..The demo cd's were given to the ktu mix show programing directors. They were all listened to and evaluated based strictly on the merits of the cd's. The mix show personel have no clue as to who these demo cd's belong to. In certain cases, the demo cd's had to be listened to a few times when it came to the decision. Some cd's were good on mixing, some were good on music selection, The winners were chosen on who was the closest to having all areas clearly defined. THE WINNERS AND THEIR TIME SLOTS FOR FRIDAY JULY 26TH ARE AS FOLLOWS.....COREY JASPER, 12 TO 1AM,,,,,DANIEL WOO, 1AM TO 2AM...JUSTIN HIGGINS, 2AM TO 3AM...AND MIKE BUGOUT, 3AM TO 4AM. MIKE RIZZO will open from 11 to midnight setting the tone for THE BREAKTHROUGH DJ'S to start. To those dj's who were not picked for this time..there is going to be another dj breakthrough night down the road. The mix show directors said they were all good and some in some cases it was very very close. We ask that all of the friends of the winners come down to support the dj's, even the dj's who weren't picked please be our guests that night. The four will be judged by KTU MIX SHOW DIRECTORS, RECORD LABEL PERSONEL, PRODUCERS AND REMIXERS. The winner gets his own MIX SHOW AND OPENS FOR JOHNNY VICIOUS the following friday at THE ROXY. . and who know where this can go..
