  1. Well, things aren't going so well...I've been out of work for a while and am still looking, additionally things are kinda haywire in my personal life. Luckily, no alcohol or drugs - just pigging out. Usually my fitness routine is my top priority and I'm trying to get back to that.
  2. I love running...but lately things have just not been going well for me and I don't feel like doing anything. Usually I really look forward to running...I was training for a marathon at this time last year and loved it...but right now I am just very discouraged. I want to get back into my routine but I am just really down right now. Any suggestions on how I can bounce back?
  3. Sounds like fun...wish I could have been there!
  4. Try reading again...Obviously I'm talking about the IDIOTS who voted for amBUSH.
  5. Too bad the rest of the state couldn't follow South Florida's lead. Go figure that the most cosmopolitan, educated, sophisticated part of the state would be on Kerry's side. I think that was the trend for the rest of the country too. For some reason I think this country loves idiots.
  6. I only wish I had gotten to enjoy more of this event. Due to many delays beyond my control I didn't even get down there until 1 am - and the event was from 10-4. Just as we were walking over to the Ice Palace I heard 4 Strings finishing their set. I heard the end of "Turn It Around" and then their ending song which was a mixture of "Turn It Around" and "Take Me Away." I had seen 4 Strings 2 years ago at Star Bar which has been defunct for a while. I had really enjoyed them then. The Dutch girl is very cool. So I was very disappointed to miss their set. Luckily the prize included VIP tickets so we went in that entrance, which led inside the Ice Palace building. The performers' stage was outside on the lawn. We didn't know if we could leave the VIP area for a while because they had run out of wristbands at the door. So we stayed inside the VIP area for awhile. The costumes were incredible. The standouts included Uma Thurman's yellow bodysuit from Kill Bill I, a dirty old man in a hospital gown with a fake butt hanging out (a la Something's Got To Give), a whole bunch of Afro'd '70s pimpsters, a guy in a fat suit with a "Personal Trainer" T-shirt, a guy dressed up as a Hooters Girl complete with big boobs, etc.... Eventually we figured out a way to get back and forth between the VIP area and the main staging area on the lawn. Unfortunately by that time the performers were done (which had also included Motorcycle). I was pretty disappointed about that. But the music was good inside. They spun a lot of old-skool '80s and '90s in the VIP room, and then there was another warehouse-size room where they dropped a lot of contemporary hip-hop/R&B/reggae. We had a really great time dancing for a while. We also enjoyed the open bar Actually got my first taste of Red Bull. Was surprised to find out how much it tastes like bubble gum. I was kicking myself for not taking my camera, especially since I just got a nice new digital one. But I'm sure anyone who went out last night probably got their own pictures, or at least had the pleasure of taking in the wide world of Halloween costumes....especially in Miami, with its ever-wild edge.
  7. Sad....he was my favorite meteorologist...he was really good at his job, had a really nice speaking voice. It's a shame.
  8. Happy Birthday Jackie - it was great meeting and hanging with you when Baby Anne was at Voodoo Lounge
  9. Thanks, I stand corrected
  10. Oh yeah, that's right...that was great to see BBB do that...I have some great memories of New York and a tag-team of DJs showing off their scratching skills....just amazing how they use the turntable just like percussion....it's like their drumpad...and BBB was always dead on with the track rhythm....incredible to watch!
  11. Hey Happy Birthday...after all of the entertainment you provide us, I hope you got some great entertainment in return
  12. I got down to Sobe early since I'd heard about the problems with traffic the Source awards would cause. So I got there around 8:30....just had dinner, walked around Espanola Way, which is beautiful. When I entered Crobar at about 10:15, I was one of the first ones there. The opening DJ, Boris, was already throwing down extremely energetic house - which was really only an appetizer compared with BBB's main course. I just chilled with Bling while Crobar filled up steadily. We also got a chance to say hi to Buster, who was jammin behind the DJ booth. Also nice to meet Colby Reese, our gracious host. Grazie mille, Colby! Right before BBB came on, the dance floor was already packed to the gills. There was a platform set up right in front of the DJ booth, which had also filled up. When BBB seized command of the decks, we knew it right away just from the strange exotic new flavor of the track with which he made his entrance. Everyone was eating it up. I haven't seen parties and crowds get too much more wild in a club than what I saw with BBB. His soundscape was fast, pulsing and hard-edged. There would be occasional breaks in his rhthym, but the energy level did not drop. When the music ebbed, the crowd kept the energy going with shouts, cheers and whistles. BBB supplemented his relentless beats with a slideshow of hard, provative images that moved as fast as did the music....the image of a writhing woman's body, flashes of light, a print of a dance troupe...it added to the surreal atmosphere. Unexpectedly I got very exhausted, so I had to leave around 2:15. On my way back to my car I saw all the evidence of the Source award traffic I'd been warned about. There was a crowd of people a block long waiting to get into some club at about Washington and 8th or 9th.
  13. Amika was a pleasure tonight, thanks to Darude and Buster. Darude, you are awesome...so friendly and talented to boot...I really enjoyed talking to you before and after your set Buster, you organized a great party, and thanks for inviting us.... Buster's DJ friend primed the deck well for Darude - he left off with a very bright exalted remix of Steve Winwood's "Valerie"....and Darude took over from there. He began adding in his own flavor to the song right away by fading it in and out to the rhythm. He also manipulated the rhythms by turning a knob that made it sound like each beat was being stretched to its limit like a rubber band, then let all the rhythm snap back. Buster also introduced a song which Darude had himself written. My friend Howie commented that Darude's transitions were outstanding, and that you could not tell where one track ended and another began. Darude also brought back a fun old-skool vibe with remixes of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (which we had also enjoyed on Monday at Mia's) and Pink Floyd's ""Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)." For me, the pinnacle of the set was during a pouring, dense remix of "As the Rush Comes" by Motorcycle. It's an awesome track to begin with (despite a little overexposure). It was this track that most seemed to stir up the inner dance demons in everyone. It is very inspiring to me that someone as nice as Darude is part of our dance music world. He is just one more reason to convince me that this crazy life of DJs, clubs, music and lack of sleep is not all for naught...I don't think I would really be living without what Miami brings us.

    Mia Lounge, 10-4

Wish more Mondays could be like this one. My friends and I arrived a bit late, when Darude had already begun. It's great for the DJ to be on the same level as the crowd, in such an intimate setting...a setting which doesn't lend itself to dancing so much. But Darude revved things up in the normally more sedate venue and got feet moving...to me, there's something wrong when dancing and great music don't go hand in hand. Everyone seemed in very good spirits also....I was very happy to finally meet Buster. Can't wait for Wednesday! My friend Natasha also enjoyed meeting Buster and exchanging a few words in her native language of Swedish with Darude, who's from Finland. It was also nice to see Dan and Eric (thanks for the CDs, Eric:) It was also one of those nights which just kept on going...before we knew it, it was around 3 am and Darude was finishing his set. Very solid beats, not so much melody, few vocals, mainly straight-ahead rhythm, that seemed to know exactly where it was going. Cato K then took over - he has a great sense of how different musical patterns fit together, making his transitions so seamless. Here's to Mia's...a not-so-ordinary Monday night....
  15. Chunky ice cream - like Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey or Heath Bar Crunch - topped with granola, some caramel syrup, whipped cream, then nuts. Don't like the cherries too much
  16. I like these musical debates....it's these kind of posts that I learn a lot more about all that music out there I haven't experienced yet. So much music, so much partying...so little time...
  17. There's a lot to be said for some occasional freakdom in life every now and then...life can get very boring otherwise Additionally, one of the things that really kept me going to eventually pass the Bar Exam was "Don't Dream It, Be It" (which I posted over my desk and looked at every day)....just proof that a little immature cult show can affect someone's life in a positive and constructive way
  18. Ok, I will attempt to explain Rocky - it all started as a little B musical that came out in '75...a spoof on a variety of science fiction and horror films. The movie soon took on a life of its own...audience participation was sparked where people improvised lines to shout as a group along with the movie...the audience, at key points, all throws things like water, toilet paper, playing cards, etc...there are dances that go along with the movie (Timewarp), people dress up as the characters and act out their own version of events underneath the real screen....there is a lot of room for creativity, roleplaying, mind expansion, liberation... The actual Rocky theater experience is best seen to be understood. Apparently there is a showing of Rocky in our area - Hollywood: Flipper's Hollywood Cinema 10. And as usual, it is Saturday at midnight, the way the show originally started out ("Whatever happened to Saturday ni-ite?"). We should make a group exodus out there sometime and do Rocky CP style.
  19. I should get one of my Rocky guru friends to really explain the mad, insane, diabolical world of fun that is **ROCKY**
