  2. No offense ed, but Halloween has absolutely blown up in Vegas the last few years. If you haven't been since 2003, you've got no idea what you're missing.
  3. Sorry my man -- last time I visited latenightempire.com I still hadn't seen any events listed and you're the first to let me know. I had heard about the Particle show but didn't realize that was a late night event, thought it was just a concert... adding to the list... thanks for the info!
  4. Go ahead and book your stay at the HR for MDW. You'll have plenty of time to cancel your room reservation with no penalty if you decide you'd rather stay somewhere else. For that matter, if you're considering another spot likely to have big pool parties (Palms), you can always double-book a room there. Even if there is no such thing as Rehab next year, I can't imagine that there still wouldn't' be a serious pool party or three at the Hard Rock over MDW... it's one thing to not want Rehab every weekend, but nobody is so stupid that they'd piss away pool revenue from a weekend like that...
  5. Kind of interesting that Moon hasn't announced any Halloween promotions too... I realize that as new as they are they'll be packed solid no matter what, but there's no thing as too much demand...
  6. Well that makes a bit more sense for someone like SK... hell I've seen him in Denver on multiple occasions, definitely seemed odd that he hadn't done Vegas before. I was just passing on what a promoter and some folks at Tao said to me. Perhaps they were thinking it's just been a LONG time. Thanks for the update!
  7. Updated October 19th with more events and confirmations Halloween week club events that I'm aware of so far... the list is starting to get massive... and still no details on official parties at Pure or BE... please chime in with additions/corrections... No doubt, for pure hip-hop it doesn't get any better than OPM. If you don't mind your hip-hop a bit more on the MTV side of things and/or flavored with some pop/rock tracks, then you'll definitely be happy at any of the spots epope listed.
  9. Updated October 3rd with confirmation of Jet's "Haunted House" event Halloween week club events that I'm aware of so far... this list continues to grow... please chime in with additions/corrections... WED OCT 25 MGM Grand: "Bite" cast Halloween party; Carl Cox at Tabu THU OCT 26 MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu FRIDAY OCT 27 MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu SATURDAY OCT 28 Stardust: Fetish & Fantasy Ball, w/ Scooter & Lavelle Tao: Taolloween MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu Pure: Ivanka Trump's birthday SUNDAY OCT 29 Body English: Halloween bash Light: Saints & Sinners Halloween Ball, $10K cash & prices Tao: Sander Kleinenberg (first-ever Vegas gig) MONDAY OCT 30 Foundation Room: Godspeed Halloween Jet: STUFF Magazine Halloween Party with video DJ Roonie G TUESDAY OCT 31 Jet: Haunted House -- $20,000 in cash prizes, plus NINE house DJs: Bad Boy Bill, Richard Humpty Vission, Donald Glaude, and David Garcia in the main room; Faarsheed, Eddie McDonald, Funky Bad Chad, Joey Mazzola, Chris Garcia in the house room. 10. Not really any desert raves or anything going on during Vegoose, as it's predominantly a differnet kind of crowd. Additionally Vegoose promotes an entire series of "Vegoose at Night" concerts that are in venues on and around the Strip, those usually go from around 1am-4am. I was at Vegoose last year (and will be again this year) and there really wasn't anybody handing out any fliers for desert parties -- just street teams handing out flyers for the clubs. However since each night of Vegoose wraps up right around 11pm, that leaves all the clubs on and around the Strip wide open. See the thread titled "Halloween in VEGAS" for info on all the club events and parties going on Halloween weekend. Aside from the various club events and Vegoose at Night concerts, your friends would probably be happy hitting up Empire or Drai's between 3am-9am to get their house fix on.
  11. I think the bottom line with fashion and clubbing can be summed up with two statements: 1. If you've been to big-name clubs in cities like NYC, Miami, LA and London, rock whatever you're comfortable with when you go clubbing and you'll be fine in Vegas. 2. If you're not comfortable wearing the kind of threads that a particular club requires... then don't go. How are you going to enjoy yourself if you're not relaxed?
  12. You're going to see more and more headlining DJs play at Tabu on Wednesday nights, as well as on special one-off nights like Tuesdays... sometimes private parties, sometimes a party early that opens to the public later. No, it's not a huge spot and no it's not geared around having a jumping, sweaty dancefloor. It's a very intimate place with a unique feel to it... and for gigs on nights like Wednesdays, it's very much the kind of place that more and more DJs are starting to head back to. Gives them a chance to interact with the crowd in the club on a more personal level, play some of the tracks they may love but don't really jive with what they may normally play in their headlining gigs at the mega-clubs. For some of these mega-DJs, a big motivation is that they fondly remember the days where they spun small clubs; for others it's about not wanting to play a huge, bombastic party 5 nights a week, especially after a long, busy summer of islands and festivals. And in the case of at least one superstar DJ, Tabu was simply a place that he'd always wanted to play at. So it's not always about making the biggest dollar... even in Vegas. And let's be honest, there are very, very few DJs that can demand (and receive) the same booking fees on a Wednesday that they get on a Saturday or Sunday. I admit I was surprised when I first started seeing some of the names that Tabu was lining up on Wednesdays, especially considering that Tabu wasn't bending over backwards to promote these nights. And the more I talked to people that know the industry -- not just in Vegas, but in NYC, Boston and London -- the more I started hearing how more and more of the big names are starting to go back to the small, cozy clubs for midweek gigs.
  13. You can get away with jeans no problem at pretty much every club in town. Especially if you'll be hitting up places that feature house/trance/etc. Dress codes in Vegas are relatively relaxed. Good jeans, a decent shirt and decent shoes are all anyone needs. If you're going the VIP route then you can easily rock a slick t-shirt with good jeans and nice shoes. If you're not VIP then some clubs may not let you in with a t-shirt, no matter how "designer" it is. Additional options for your house/trance/etc dancing pleasure The places listed above are all valid, just thought you'd want to know all your options Sunday: Body English, the parlor room (11p-4a) Drai's (3a-9a) Monday: Foundation Room, main room and deck has house (11p-5a) Seamless (5a-9a) Tuesday: Pure, house music on the roof (11p-4a) Wednesday: Tabu (11p-4a) Tangerine, house on the deck (11p-4a) Drai's (3a-9a) Thursday: Tao, house in the lounge (11p-4a) VooDoo Lounge, (11p-4a) OPM, house in the Orchid Room (11p-4a) Drai's (3a-9a) Friday: Jet, house rooom (11p-5a) Tao, house in the lounge (11p-4a) Pure, house music on the roof (11p-4a) Tangerine, house on the deck (11p-4a) Drai's (3a-9a) My personal recommendation: Sunday: Body English Mon: Foundation Room Tue: Pure Wed: Tabu Thur: Tao Fri: Jet If you don't mind doing the same club twice in a week, then definitely hit Jet on Monday. The house room is seriously off the chain those nights, the crowd is mostly local and thus extremely alive and in the mood to party. I recommended Foundation partly so that you can go to different spots, but also because it's a truly unique spot with a really great local crowd on Mondays. And if you really want to go hard on Monday, you could always go to Foundation at 11, then pop over to Jet around 1:30-2:00. For afterhours, Drai's is the way to go unless Empire is featuring a headlining DJ that you really dig. Regarding Ice, I just can't recommend it to anyone these days. The last few times I've gone the crowd has been weak, and the last time I heard from anyone about a good night there was in May. A few very close friends went with high hopes this past Saturday, but Armin van Buuren cancelled, Felix da Housecat was a mess and the crowd was weak. They may not even be open the Friday you're in town. Also definitely make sure to stop by Mix, at the top of Mandalay Bay. Mellow/downtempo house and easily one of the best nighttime views of the strip. No cover if you get there before 10pm. A great warmup stop. Mix also features a full restaurant, but if you're going to eat at Mandalay... ...If you really want to splurge on an outstanding dinner go to Fleur de Lys. Aside from inredibly good food, they always play a great mix of mellow and funky house. It's a fine-dining place, but it feels very comfortable and relaxed. Finally, if you find yourself in MGM Grand, there are two lounges that typically play house music: Zuri, which is next to the lobby; Rouge, which is at the beginning of the "Studio Walk." Very slick decor at Rouge, thanks to it being formerly a sweet little club named Teatro. Feel free to shoot me a PM or contact me via myspace if you want to chat one-on-one about any of this stuff.
  14. Updated October 3rd with confirmation of Jet's "Haunted House" event Halloween-specific club events that I'm aware of so far... note this is an EARLY LIST that will certainly grow and change... WED OCT 25 MGM Grand: "Bite" cast Halloween party; Carl Cox at Tabu THU OCT 26 MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu FRIDAY OCT 27 MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu SATURDAY OCT 28 Stardust: Fetish & Fantasy Ball, w/ Scooter & Lavelle Tao: Taolloween MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu SUNDAY OCT 29 Body English: Halloween bash MONDAY OCT 30 Foundation: Godspeed Halloween TUESDAY OCT 31 Jet: Haunted House -- EIGHT house DJs in main and side rooms including Faarsheed, Bad Boy Bill, Richard Humpty Vission, Donald Glaude, Chris Garcia, Eddie McDonald, Funky Bad Chad, Joey Mazzola (plus hip-hop in 3rd room) Pure: Halloween bash
  15. Overheard at the Tao door, the Thursday following LDW, a group of guys asking a host about their bottle minimum: "Does water count?" (this question was asked in a serious tone)
  16. Really? In your B&G post you didn't hesitate to name the venues that you enjoyed, but don't mention the name of a single venue that disappointed you. The tone of your "article" gave me the impression that your primary interest is not informing the clubgoer, but rather playing the back-scratching game with the clubs. Why not call out these venues by name? Are you afraid that you won't be given preferential treatment if you openly criticize them? You might as well have subtitled your article "A Fair and Balanced look at Vegas Nightclubs."
  17. Yes, no question, last Rehab ever. "Fire hazard?" [snicker] While local authorities may have been less than amused with issues like overcrowding, alcohol/drug abuse and fights, these are hardly killer blows. New Hard Rock owners just don't want Rehab around.
  18. Halloween-specific club events that I'm aware of so far... note this is an EARLY LIST that will certainly grow and change... WED OCT 25 MGM Grand: "Bite" cast Halloween party; Carl Cox at Tabu THU OCT 26 MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu FRIDAY OCT 27 MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu SATURDAY OCT 28 Stardust: Fetish & Fantasy Ball, w/ Scooter & Lavelle Tao: Taolloween MGM Grand: Halloween week at Studio 54 & Tabu SUNDAY OCT 29 Body English: Halloween bash MONDAY OCT 30 Foundation: Godspeed Halloween TUESDAY OCT 31 Jet: Halloween bash (rumored DJs include Faarsheed, Bad Boy Bill, Richard Humpty Vission and Donald Glaude) Pure: Halloween bash
  19. Beautiful women are everywhere. Friendly women are everywhere. Whether you meet them in a club, bar or elevator, you'll meet beautiful, friendly women anywhere you go. Kissing the first night you meet a guy? People have sex within a few hours of meeting each other. (it's called "drunk and horny") You'd probably like the other popular mega-clubs of the moment: Tao, Pure and Jet. Smaller but still hugely popular clubs are Body English and Tryst. You'll find more beautiful women at any of these places than you'll know what to do with. Less popular means smaller lines, but doesn't necessarily mean less fun. Places like Studio 54, Tabu and Rain have smaller crowds out front, but are still packed inside on weekends with people having the time of their lives. If you like electronic music, Ice is going to be insane on Saturday night with two big headliners booked, Armin van Buuren and Felix da Housecat. There's another big reason that Ice may be OTC on Saturday, but you'll have to go to find out. Otherwise read through other posts on this board to see what everyone has to say about different places, talk to people in town and go from there.
  20. Any decent club is going to have lines from Thursday through Sunday nights. Don't know what you mean by "cheesy music" so hard to address that one. Obvious answer: If you really liked Tao, go back to Tao. Otherwise you'd probably like the other popular mega-clubs of the moment, Pure and Jet. If you liked the main room at Tao and want to check out smaller but still hugely popular clubs try Body English and Tryst. 21. Just had lunch with a few friends that that hit up Tabu last Wednesday, said it was the best (Wed) night they've spent in Vegas in quite some time... said the crowd was a perfect mix of locals and visitors, really great vibe and good tunes. Tabu is also starting to book more and more big-name DJs on Wednesdays and really ramp up this whole "IT" promotion. Little by little, Wednesdays are starting to kick ass again...
  22. Define "something cool to do." In Vegas you can find pretty much anything you're looking for, any hour of the day, any day of the week. Can't really recommend a particular club, lounge or bar without knowing what you want. If you're not looking for anything specific, poke around through the dozens of threads here and in the Promotions sub-forum. Check out the nightlife sections of the resort websites. Or just play it by ear once you're in town and ask your bartender, concierge, valet or whomever for recommendations. Or spend the cash on a VIP host to guide you around town. For Grand Canyon tours, I'd recommend checking out reviews of tour companies at a site like tripadvisor.com.
  23. No disrespect intended to either of these clubs, but... Wow! Connections at OPM and Tangerine on Wednesday nights. You must really be some kind of super-connected clubbing genius. To those readers interested in guest lists: Both clubs offer guest lists that anyone can sign up for via the Web. Hit up their websites, their myspace pages, the guest lists offered by napkinnights and clubplanet... hell, just google the words "guest list wednesday" along with the club name and you'll find them...
