  1. I am referring to after limelight closed… I took communion every Tuesday… But do you remember how many times it closed and re-opened and then closed for a while then opened only to be closed? (D.T. did some sort of party) Then they made the horrible decision to “revamp†the whole building and Avalon came. I think it was the Giger room that did it initially.(One of my favorite artist, but nevertheless) Remember how that was a VIP room? Soon after they put all the Giger display, the place closed down…again and again and again.

Yeah, I just don't understand why they turned the most original space in nyc into the usual club with the clean-vip room, and all this white, ... can they come up with something original and that make sense in _this particular space_ ; not a pre-packaged version of what a "club" is? This is nyc, not Miami!

  2. i think the building is cursed... nothing stays in there for too long.

Eh? Wasn't Limelight there for ages before some Einstein decided to call it Avalon?

The building's amazing, I mean a church?! Where else would you rather have the weekly debauchery?

Having said that, Avalon was a waste, the crowd was just a little above Webster Hall, and that doesn't say much.

  3. 5AM - Close means they'll close whenever they feel like it, usually when the party's slowly fadding out, i.e. around 2pm (give take 1h) for Victor so far.

Oh! Also, "Gay Pride" parties on Saturday do not last too long into the day because there's the parade and all the fun stuffs to do *outside of a nightclub* on the actual Pride day (Sunday)!

  4. Does anyone remember Desire, Tobell or Astro?
Tobell's still around and even has records out via nyc-eclectro-pope Larry Tee (who's always fun to hear dj btw).

Check out DiskoDistortion on Thursdays at Bed (21st and 6th av, with Tee as the dj) and you'll find the remainders of the kids of that era still working it (Amanda, Kenny Kenny, Ritchie, ... ).

  5. supposedly they are better during the week
Monday's Charm School at Marquee are actually really fun (not surprisingly it's when the gay/fashion/freaks/... scene invades the space). I know when Debbie Harry (of Blondie fame) performed there few months back it was a mad house and reminded me for the crazier days of this city.

I guess Mondays are the exception.

  6. All turned to shit around that whole time with the closing of Twilo, then Vinyl, then Arc, then Centro (and more underground places too).

It's like everything, there's ups and downs; just be happy you experienced a high.

Things will get better. It's true that Crobar doesn't cut it for me (way too B&T with cocktails) ; Spirit was getting there but now they've been bought by Space so who knows.

  7. I've been to Marquee on a Saturday, what a joke. Unbearably pointless music and people taking themselves way too seriously, NO FUN whatsoever! I was expecting a hot fashion crowd, I got sex and the city rejects forcing themselves to have the time of their life getting drunk and standing on tables (wow! so wild) ... pointless.

Also, I don't think entering that place's too hard anyway, just dress up and you should be in (with or without pussy).

I'm afraid Bungalow 8's the same story.

  8. he spins under the name cashmere.,.
    That would be Cajmere.

He's an amazing producer, great dj, and even a great live act! He's often credited as the main man of the second wave of House music coming out of Chicago (via his Label Cajmere records).

I am just sad he's stuck at Limelight, seems to be a kid playground there.

I'm losing my mind .... I'm losing my mind .... I'm losing my mind ....

I think I might go to there just for the hell of it! Scare the little kiddies and their little balooooons :)
