Great news for those who dont smoke.
OUTSIDE smoking, give me a break. Next week I'm gonna propose a ban on ditastefull clothing because they're harming my visual environment, morons who talk on their cell phone in restaurant because they're harming my auditive comfort, ... this is second hand stress for me and it's bad for my heart.
This is ludicrous.
PS: and I don't even smoke.
-
So, when's the smoking ban in people's home coming? Ridiculous. Some people really need to get a life.
-
bro seriously lay off the drugs
What a useful and enlightening comment, thank god you're around.

Yeah, got an email from Mark Nelson saying the same thing.. so was it really closed? If it was just a rumor how would it ever get started? (ok, I realize the vortex of drama around junior and his rabid fans/haters... but still...)
just a bump for people who don't know
The rumors were about how long the club will be closed by the cops, i.e. will jr party happen at all or not. And it is true, the club was closed yesterday, I know, I was there (cops, and judge paper stuck to the door, ...all the usual drama).
Closed Friday, open (shorter night apparently) Saturday. It isn't about fake drama brought by haters, it really happened and people were just wondering.
-
wow--seriously? what happened? (i thought they were immune lol)
Yeah, I thought roxy was untouchable too. I don't really know what happened. I heard everything from "the club went bankrupt" to "they lost their liquor license" to "they were going to sell alcohol at a 18/over party", and "the court date for a reopening hearing is thursday" to "it will never reopen": all in all, good old speculations. Time will tell.
-
Well, Roxy's been shut down by the cops this weekend so no Junior Halloween @Roxy this year. I don't think they'll have time to find another venue, but who knows; more info at www dot junior vasquez music dot com

I'm looking for a club similar to Duvet in style, music, trendiness, etc. but more of a heterosexual crowd. Know of any? Maybe in the Meat Packing area? Thanks
That brand of "fabulousness" is gay by definition so I don't think there's an equivalent. Mixed crowd is the best you're gonna find.

I have nothing against Boris, but Danny schooled all the new NY djs in many ways.
Basically all of them used to go to (a) Junior (
Danny to get their musical education. And as far as I can tell Boris didn't pass his master(s) yet.
Danny's more broad, deep, technical, original, and on and on.
Hell, DT's even a major influence on all the new producers out there (Deep Dish/Chus and Ceballos/...). Danny's a TOTAL NEW YORK LEGEND! And truly a real House Music Legend too. DT hands down.
Also, you have to see what kind of crowd those 2 catter to. Boris's just too limited in term of crowd [b&t] ; and frankly he can pack 6000 of those I just don't care.

go to junior vasquez music dot com forums for most of those answers.

spirit or crobar? neither
dt or boris? dt hands dooooooooooooooooown.

I dont mean automatically, im talking bout longetivity, legacy, technical, cretivity, wide range of musical ability. All the djs i mentioned can and have played music from the 1960s until now and ALL forms of of the dance genre.
Yeah but the folks you're talking about were at the top of their game early in their career too. When did Levan start playing records and when was he considered at the top of his game? Probably a 10 year period. Same with a bunch of dudes. I don't know but 10 years is a LONG time to learn anything. I don't think DJing requires 40 years of knowledge, as long as you're talented.

you really have to listen to calderone, he's not super obvious.
-
...the cops ...shouting in the megafone "NONE OF YOU KNOW ANYONE HIGHER THAN ME"
That's funny as hell.
-
it's called natural progression...he hasn't always been involved in ownership....
and it's not like the club's empty on Saturdays. This guys has a very very loyal following.

ask the average clubber who is Timmy Regisford and they wont know
The average clubber doesn't have an above-average good taste maybe. You should never use the masses to see if something is worth anything, most of the time the majority's wrong. Timmy rules.
-
I think Timmy's the only one with a constant one.

Until recently NY was at the forefront of Dance Music, and that's why it has the history it has. I can't compare to Miami but compared to all the places I've been to, until recently (say 3/4 years ago) NY used to have groundbreaking clubs (think Garage, Loft, Original Sound Factory, Sound Factory Bar, ...), top-notch musical clubs (places like Vinyl, Shelter, Centro-Fly, Twilo), super-underground parties like nowhere else (things like Jackie 60 or Motherfucker for example), and also top-notch Entertainment clubs (like Palladium, Limemight, Studio 54...).
In each of those categories NY used to be at the top of the game worldwide.
All in all it has to do with the underground artistic community that used to form the real undergrounds (plural) of NYC nightlife, they created the EDGE NY used to have. And even if it's watered down today, this heritage is so strong it still makes NYC one of the top places for real nighttime fun that does not taste too fake. I don't know but I think there's a difference between Louie Vega playing a 4hour set somewhere and Louie Vega playing a 10hour set in his own city with a following that spans decades. Something about originality or Realness maybe.
Also, I don't think it's only about the superclubs (less and less), they're only a part of what makes a good nightlife.

relax queenie...im pretty sure vic is honored to even share the decks with someone like carl cox...ur not talkin about johnnie johnson from nutley new jersey...its carl fucking cox
I just think it sounds lame; it's as if Victor was quoted as saying that Crobar asked Cox to be his opening DJ.
Also, Back Off!

I heard French chicks don't shave their pits, and the people go for days without bathing...is that true??
French girls wear Christian Dior dress, Chanel make-up, Yves-Saint-Laurent perfume, and read Jean-Paul Sartre while drinking Veuve Cliquot Champagne ... now what do the New Jersey girls at Crobar do already
-
Victor Calderone; he’s closing for me.
yeah, right. Victor was asked to close for Carl ... :
-
Should be a lot of fun. I'm gonna make a hop there I think. Larry Tee's really a good DJ.

$150 bucks for a large amount of alcohol that's gonna make you pass out at 5am, sit like an ass at a table upstairs, and wake up the day after with the worse headache ... yeah great times. I'm sorry but as far as I'm concerned, things were much more fun when E was around like crazy
--and that $25 wasn't too bad either. I don't do anything anyway, but alcohol is why I never show up before 8am to those "big nights" at Crobar (DT, VC), most of the annoying/violent drunkheads are usually gone by then.
-
hes been around longer than that..he was there when acid house began to blossom...many of the songs he plays on kiss100 or any live sets end up being played out by the majority of djs many months later...in that sense he is a pioneer...he always brings in a new sounds and everyone else jumps on it...a technical master w/ more origniality than anyone out there
Ok, I won't get into it too much but when I heard the word "pioneer" I thought of DJ Pierre or those folks ... individuals who actually invented a sound (Pierre, Knuckles, Hurley, ...) not the ones who brought it to the "dj-masses" ... it's fine. Digweed's cool, He's all right.
PS: unrelated but the new 'edit' function on this site's great.

Does anything that exciting happen at Crobar that's worth paying that much money for a table? I mean, are you going to see something that will be on par with the decadence of Studio 54 in the 70s, or the club scene of the 80s? If you do, please post a report. Last time I was there it was like a bridge and tunnel prom.
Haha, an A+ answer.
