  1. Due to a huge turnout at our grand opening event last night, Pacha chose to voluntarily shut down the club at 3 A.M. in order to comply with New York City safety regulations.

wow, in the excuse pantheon, it's up there with the 'dog eat my homework' and 'my grandmother passed away'. thanks for the laugh

  2. its not gonna be funny when they start shutting all clubs down at 6 am..

    yeah.

Clubbing back in the day was 4am,you learn to deal with it.But the 6am won't last too long.

Back in what day? Wasn't there an afterhours club scene as early as the 70s? Frankly, It would be such a backward move.

I don't care that much about Pacha, but it's really scary to see that the cops are already all over it. Pacha management should have seen this coming (half the folks on this board did), and be 100% clean with ID check, no overcrowding, play-by-the-book (see Crobar). I don't think they can afford treating their customer like shit and ignoring the nypd there days.

  3. the great rock club don hill's treats me right though & they found a brooks bros. blazer I lost there once.
you wore a Brooks Bros. blazer at Don's Hill!?

    As for this sweater story,

    (1) the bouncer gave you a cold shady answer because either (a) he hates his jobs, (B) he hates the partrons, © he's over all those people asking him about their stuffs, (d) your bad breadth?

    (2) you put your sweater in the speaker, you shouldn't expect to find it again. I use to do this only at Vinyl and even then I used to keep an eye on it

    (3) if you don't want to lose anything, put it in the coat check. Yeah, I know you already used it, but you do know you're allowed to put more than one item there.

    (4) yeah, you guessed it right, crobar nightclub activity is just a facade for an illegal $100-a-week underground second-hand sweater business!

  4. Well when the dance scene here was thriving, the big clubs were more unique and original (e.g. Twilo, Tunnel, Limelight, USA, Palladium, etc.). You can't be a leader in the scene by putting chain style clubs all over the place....Crobar, Avalon, Pacha, and Spirit are not original concepts; they all originated elsewhere and exist elsewhere. If NYC wants to be the dance mecca it once was, they need to do something more interesting than using a concept that's already out there. They need to push the envelope a little bit and become more creative.

the place haven't even opened yet! Can folks at least give an opinion after stepping foot there?

  5. yes junior plays music as he always has.

I am of 2 minds about DT these days. 5 years ago he was arguably the best dj alive. 1999-01 at vinyl was some of the best music in nyc club history.

certain moments I heard of his in 2005 like at crobar birthday set & a few songs at arc reunion at spirit were on that tip top level.

other times I think DT has turned into a cold tech house techno non-musical dj & I cant believe how much his music has fallen off, like DT lost all the melody & classic house to his sound?? its depressing to hear 8+ hours of DT playing pots n pans tech house & praying he will play a few hours of the soulful vocal house he used to spin for hours at vinyl & tunnel.

junior still plays the vocals & melodies that he always has & if you go for 6-8 hours of his parties youll hear undeground beats & great vocal melodies.

DT seems to mainly promise 8-12 hours of headbanging techno & tech-house

I kinda agree with your dt view, eventhough I like the tech house part and don't really mind it. It's sad he's not really playing his house sound much anymore because no one really plays house the way he does.

I think a lot of people are afraid to talk about what DTs doing in 2005 & even his old fans wont tell him how they miss the soulful house he used to play

Isn't it what you just did? If you're refering to dtourism.com, it's a fan site so don't expect to hear anything else but 'fan-talk'.

  6. i wonder if they are going to do the same thing "Some other place" Did a while ago

They do this HUGE invite "Looking for staff extras"

They listed what positions of interest (ofcorse it was exagerated greatly)

you stand outside online for over an hour (thats understandable because there were alot of people so thats ok)

But when you get inside, you have to pay $5 to et in and then stand on another line to wait and talk with someone about your interested position.

I asked what the $5 was for and the answer,

"We need to pay out staff for tonight"

    ...excuse me?

As a cardinal rule, you should never have to pay for a job interview. This is really telling what kind of business it is.

I'm even wondering if it's legal.

  7. Umm that's what closed down Twilo; When bloomberg gets elected again he will end all afterhours at major clubs on the west side.

I wonder why clubs do not open in a less problematic area of nyc (way east). I mean Chelsea was not a residencial district 15 years ago and that's also a reason why those big clubs had an easier time there.

Why not do the same today, move clubs to a non-residencial/non-million-dollar-apartment area of nyc (l.e.s. whatever) where the cops don't really care if the neighboors have issues?

It's true that today there is nothing that compares to Twilo (or Tunnel or Palladium or ....). I am afraid this type of club is close to dead. However there's a lot of smaller hip (non-house) parties (and no I'm not talking about the lounge/model scene) going on with a lot of fun young inventive kids having the time of their life.
