  1. one more great thing about ibiza i didn't mention... the Base bar in Ibiza-town. Owner Jason and his wife Gail, and Carmen will make sure you are having a great time. They are really social and perhaps know everyone in town. The best place to hang out before heading to the clubs.
  2. b2b I think i'd have to disagree with you about Es paradis. I think that sunday night for judgement sunday was one of the best nights there, not really because of jules, but because of ferry corsten. the people were slightly more friendly, there were some awesome lasers, and room to dance. and as for manumission this past summer (on july 3)... I was scared shitless of all the cracked-out people there. too many of them, and all way more fucked up than me. not to say i wasn't on anything, but everyone was so far gone they'd just walk up to me and stare at me with a blank zombie-like expression. and i absolutely couldn't stand the show that the guy who blows himself was giving. the people were just plain scary and the vibe was totally missing. its a good place to go if you want to go all-out with your costumes though. two years ago at manumission i had a great time, but this summer i was disgusted! but its only my point of view. here's what i thought about the rest... Es Paradise ------------ clockwork orange's decorations look like a high school prom...but with different levels of balconies around the 1 main room... the plants are a really nice touch. i am suprised they are able to live there. music was better earlier on in the night and just sort of got lame around 3.overall, a pleasant place with a nice environment. Privelege --------- my favorite night there was renaissance. it wasn't as crowded as manumission, and the people were nicer. better vibe. also xtravaganza on fridays are cool. very ibiza-like vibe. Pacha ----- very posh (hence the name pacha) drinks are mad expensive, and the dancefloor is tiny. rooftop is really nice to hang out on. oakey was alright. sundissential two years ago was there and it was wonderful. (not sure if they still have those parties) El Divino --------- never went there in 2 years because the dj lineup didn't coincide with who we wanted to see. seems like lots of glam people go there. hang out at their cafe in ibizatown and watch the tall (mostly naked) statue-like guy all night and how he sings and dances with the damn house song they keep playing. Amnesia -------- one word: kryogenifex it was here first, before they put one in twilo. cream is one of the best parties of the week, and dance valley wasn't that bad either (great huge blow up dandelions, dragons, and stuff) their chill out room is bigger than the main room for some reason. Eden ------ i loved this place. if you went to twilo a few years ago, eden fits the same description. vibe was great, soundsystem is phazon (and newer than twilo's) permanent lasers in every color. i just thought this was the islands best kept secret.And...judge jules is a very nice guy, even though he plays mainstream stuff. and strangely enough, one of the absolutely best times i had was at the afterparty for perfecto, at konga (near bora bora) It isn't a pretty place, but after partying all night it was perfect. they give you a red bull/ vodka shot upon entering (as your "breakfast") and they were playing old skool funky breaks and such. so much fun!!! Before you go out, go to the base bar in Ibiza-town. The owners are extroardinarily friendly. and they can get you discounted tickets to the clubs. thats my piece for now. going back next summer for the first week in july. I'd rather take a summer vacation early so I can recover.
  3. no. go to san an once and see for yourself! it is hilarious. drunken brits, scots, and irish pissing on the streets and puking off their hotel balconies. and hooking up with each other left and right. crappy food too. they'll all try and rope you into the bars too, by offering you a free drink. and many shady men trying to sell you fake watches/sunglasses/ necklaces. kinda like times square but with a beach.
  4. i guess sillylittlename's b/f is perhaps divine. literally. (Good to hear things are happy!!!)
  5. apple cinnamon cheerios. or banana nut crunch. (its not as healthy as it sounds)
  6. i guess i'm going to contradict myself when i say this (i've tried to provide advice to all those who are going to ibiza in the future) but perhaps the most interesting thing about it is to just get there and figure things out on your own. its sort of an adventure anyways. (just be sure to know a little bit of spanish so you can ask the pharmacist (la farmacia) for some antibiotics cause you'll be feeling like shit after partying every night there.) It doesn't fail. Every year we come back with a sinus infection from not eating, not sleeping, and baking in the hot desert sun.
  7. Ok sillylittlename, Spree and I will try our darndest to see you there. -K
  8. Feelgood. and maybe Scott Henry.
  9. Silence was the theme song to that movie with Claire Danes two summers ago (Brokedown Palace) Oakey probably won't play it on thanksgiving because he has been playing that song all summer and probably has even better, newer songs in his box. He was so in love with that song that on July 4th in Ibiza he played it twice. Even though it is an amazing song, when Oakey plays it twice it makes you wonder why he isn't playing more of his white labels.
  10. What is Dave Ralph doing in Philly? Last time I saw him there was at Space 2 years ago with Oakey and there were only about 200 people there. Is the trance scene there picking up?
  11. there's nothing worse than going out in uncomfortable shoes and wanting to dance. so when in doubt, sacrifice style for comfort. and you can find some very stylin boots with rubber heels or wedge heels that are comfortable, functional, and funky.
  12. if you're looking for a reasonably priced place to stay, forget about air conditioning. call joe at festive travel (www.festivetravel.com) he is an American travel agent that is really knowledgeable about the island and can find you an appropriate hotel or villa. And stay in Ibiza-town, because San Antonio is full of drunk people who like to vomit on the streets and piss off their hotel balconies. (I still have horrible visions of it) finding people to hook you up with happy things isn't difficult if you know how to spot them, and even if they are bad they are cheap enough to find different ones. Like $7 each or something. Its a hit-or-miss situation. I found much better things the first summer I went than this summer. And don't talk to any of the Spanish locals about them...they don't do them, and they don't have respect for the tourists that do. I hope that helps ya. start looking for airfare about 5 months before you want to go. i couldn't get any flights for less than $1000 in march for my trip last summer (last week in june/first week of july). and there aren't any direct flights there from here.
  13. yeah. they played it every night i was in ibiza too, and it seemed like the crowd loved it. it will probably be on the next stupid "jock jams" cd or something. i am glad there are still some songs that are sacred to us that don't get played at major sporting events. most progressive trance is too deep for our american society to be chanting at baseball games. let's keep it that way.
  14. It's at third avenue, between 86th and 87th street (next to casa calamari) i think. it has a big g with little orbity things around the sign, and looks like something from a sci-fi movie.
  15. sorry. my computer is screwy right now and i had to resend the message! ------------------ Sometimes...when it's not raining outside, it's sunny!
  16. actually, I think NY club djs probably get paid enough to not need a day job, but not nearly as much as those level 1 and 2 European DJS. Maybe $200,000 a year or so for the ones that don't really leave New York. Danny Tenaglia is another story. I am curious to know where our hard earned clubbing dollar goes. For every 30$ we pay to get into clubs, who gets the bulk of it? The dj? The bouncers? The club owners? Promoters? And where does $6 of the $7 we pay for a beer go? Sounds like there are some greedy people in clubland...
  17. I'm sure that the NY Djs are making enough so that they don't need day jobs, yet not nearly as much as Level 1 or 2 European djs. Think about where your club admission goes toward. If you're paying 25 to 30 bucks a night to get in, and then 7 per beer, where is all that going? the owners of the club? the staff? (i doubt they make much besides tons of tips) b2b do you have the breakdown of percentages on where our hard earned clubbing money goes? that information would be interesting to know as well.

  19. The sad thing is, it had potential to be great (it reminds me of a mini version of an ibiza club), if they managed to get all the djs that Twilo didn't have a contract with (like Tall Paul, Seb Fontaine, and Judge Jules)... and they changed the crowd from slimy, shirtless, groping people to people who were there not just to pick up chicks but to enjoy great music. no offense to anyone that enjoys going there. but i haven't been able to even walk to the ladies room without being grabbbed and groped. it's like open mating season.
  20. blueskygirl is friends with DJ (Mark) Divine. therefore, i believe he might be having people over his apartment (hence the term Divine House Party) -abgrover (friend of blueskygirl)
  21. Bay Ridge..... yup. i live there, so i guess i am officially a brooklyn-ite too.
  22. hi people. i had THE BEST time at LL last week, because all you were there. i got my tix for tall paul through ticketmaster (i am too lazy to try any other way) and they ended up being 60 for the two. (damn expensive but well worth it) i think spree and i want to stay in this weekend so he can recover from his visit to his bro's. but if you beg enough, you might get us to go out drinkin in the neighborhood. XOXO -ab
  23. This summer was my second trip there, and already I can see how commercialized it is becoming. I am still going back next summer, because it beats NYC. My advice...find yourself some really nice Brits (not the ones in San Antonio) and learn a lot from them. It made our trip so much better (we met a couple the first summer we went and all met up again this year) They brought their friends, which instantly expanded our little group of 3 to almost 15 people, and they made friends with the people that own the Base Bar in Ibiza-town, who were hooking us up every night with reduced admission to clubs or comps and free drinks. One more point: European people in general have a negative opinion of Americans...probably because most of the Americans that can afford to go there are the ones that only go because of what they saw on E (Wild on Ibiza) and aren't really knowledgeable about European culture.
