  1. Anyone know of other ways to get tickets besides ticketmaster and their lame-ass fee? Its at the Roxy on October 19th.
  2. I'd have to agree with blueskygirl. The soundsystem on Saturday at limelight was not their usual, I think gatecrasher provided their own stuff.
  3. I was there the past two saturday nights and plenty of people were dressed in jeans and sneakers. There were also people dressed up, but the door policy is fairly loose because they are trying to fill the place to capacity and they haven't done that yet on a saturday night (since a few years ago). Just dress to impress, even if it is in jeans and sneakers.
  4. I had an okay time, and the earlier dj (s) were playing good music but screwing up all the mixes. there wasn't one beatmatched record or cd or whatever the hell they were mixing. just when you'd start to dance, he'd screw up another mix and ruin the vibe. the people weren't bad. they were trying to make the best of the situation. the place has so much potential. i went two weekends in a row to support dave sigmund's part of the party, and it is slowly improving but they need to let his djs play... to prove their skills are far superior to the headlining djs that i've heard so far. they don't mix cds.
  5. If you're going to say Mark Divine, I'll have to say Spree.(by relationship-law i am required to support his musical endeavors) -Kim
  6. I was the girl who wasn't into the scene. I was into "grunge / alternative / ska". 6 years later, I am picking out records for my boyfriend at Satellite, and dragging his ass out because sometimes I feel like staying up til 8am and he doesn't. If you really like each other, why not take the non-clubber out to let them into your world, if cultural rules are not an issue. (In the instance that the girl just isn't allowed out, you can just introduce them to the music alone) [This message has been edited by abgrover (edited 08-14-2000).]
  7. an art director for large internet / marketing agency. obviously not doing much today, because i was able to read the posts. the coworkers are in the 24-30 age range and i wouldn't be that suprised to see them out. but i would be suprised to see them doing other things besides drinking. and they know all about my crazy partying lifestyle because i got the flyers up on the wall of my desk space. (its only used for graphic design research...really!)
  8. 91 infiniti G20. I still have it, and i put about 90,000 of the 102,000 its got on it driving to and from nyc from college upstate a few years ago. I call him Mistah Spar-kal, from the simpson's episode where homer sees this logo for a japanese dishwashing detergent that looks like him.
  9. I have never had a good time at Exit. It is sad how they try to make it similar to Manumission in Ibiza. To hear of sex shows on stage brings back bad memories of seeing a guy suck his own dick and come on the crowd, at Manumission July 3 this year. So scary and so nasty. I can't see how anyone, straight or gay-- could enjoy watching this kind of stuff at a club.
  10. If you are referring to the Phil Collins song "I can feel it coming in the air tonight," it was done about three years ago, right when progressive trance/ house was starting to rise. How about another Phil Collins 80's song called "seperate lives" This might seem like a strange old song to remix, but the lyrics are beautiful. "You have no right, to ask me how I feel, You have no right to speak to me so kind, someday I might find myself looking in your eyes, but now we'll keep living...seperate lives." If just the right angelic voice was used to sing it, it just might work.
  11. O fortuna (that old track taken from the opera) was the first song I loved then in the same time frame... I am ready (of course) Moby- Into the Blue and Everytime you touch me Prodigy- Break and Enter and Underworld- Blue train
  12. To hear about what happened to him is extremely sad and emotionally disturbing. I was there (in the back corner) and didn't even realize that anything had happened that night until almost a week later when someone told me. My deepest condolences go to his friends and family. This issue at hand is much bigger than just this one situation. We are slowly killing ourselves by doing what we do. It may not seem dramatic, but what is going to happen to us in 10, 20, 30 years-- if we are fortunate to make it that long? I have been taking for about 6 years and can only start to see how braindead I am becoming. I always thought that moderation was the key (i never wanted to feel f*cked up, just awake) but even moderation seems to be evil. Not to mention how psychotic and depressed you become for at least the first week or two after you use? Aren't you tired of feeling sick all the time, after a weekend or night out? I am not telling people to stop doing it only to think about the fact that the consequences of our actions down the road may not be worth the 6 hours of fun. And we are rapidly destroying our own scene. I went to Twilo again two weeks ago, and in addition to the huge sign above the cash registers stating that there are undercover cops inside (obviously), the male bouncers were looking over the stalls in the girls bathroom to make sure that the girls were only using the stall for what it was intended. And a friend of mine was in the mens' bathroom and was told on the spot to empty out his pockets. If this is what it takes to keep this club open, then I think it should be shut down until we can find a better and smarter way to hear our favorite European DJS. And if you have any respect for humanity, think about what you are doing to yourself and be aware of its consequences (both known and unknown.) I keep thinking about how my family and friends would feel if they heard the news that I had taken drugs and died. Or if I find out I have a serious illness in the future that was caused by the stupidity of my youth? If you are truly interested in the music like you say you are, you can always sleep before you go out so you don't need to use anything to keep you awake. I want to find the Twilo from four years ago, back when everyone was happy, the music was amazing, you could walk around without stepping on anyone's feet, and the people around you were alive (not the lifeless drugged-up zombies you see today)... but that doesn't seem likely until the next big thing comes along and the whole cycle starts again. I can only hope you wish the same...
  13. there was one good club, on the main strip. (it was on princessa I think.) didn't see much of anything illegal going on, but the music was decent (progressive trance/ anthems.) the pacha club in madrid wasn't that much fun, and they were playing 80's music, so don't bother. barcelona was much more interesting and the clubs were generally better. and ibiza is the best, but if you're there for the fall and winter it dies. most of it shuts down in late september. (plenty of rolling going on there)
  14. Better yet, don't drive between the two at night. I had the horrifying experience of passsing a scooter accident in which my friend had to cover my eyes because there were body parts all over the road. Taxis are so reasonable both between San An and Ibiza-town, there is no need to drive.
  15. Well. after going there for the past two summers, it makes NYC club scene look depressing. Picture spending all day at the beach, (with great music) and the earlier part of the night at the bars (with great music) and then a club until 7am (with great music and people) and then an afterparty till noon (with great music) there is no sleeping in Ibiza. If you have the time to go there, go for at least a week so that you can experience different types of parties at each of the 7 clubs. It gets expensive though (airfare is at least $900, and you have to fly through either Barcelona, Madrid, or London / Paris / Amsterdam) and the clubs will cost you anywhere from $30 to $60 admission, if you don't get the flyers or meet some friendly locals with comps. But you can find some valuable information about it on www.ibiza-spotlight.com and if you want a personal point of view, check out festivetravel.com, and then call Joe (the owner) and talk to him about accomodations there. he is one of the only American travel agents that has many accommodations there.
  16. Best European DJ to see in NYC. I'd say PVD, and Dave Seaman @ Twilo Best to see in Ibiza. Ferry Corsten @ Judgement sundays Seb Fontaine and John Kelly at Cream Most fun DJ to dance to (domestic) Feelgood (it is so difficult to limit it to "Best" when you hear some great sets and have an awesome time from many DJs) Even Dj mag's top 100 doesn't cover the whole spectrum. 17. The quality of Oakey's sets has depreciated greatly this summer. I didn't bother with the Roseland, after hearing him at Pacha in Ibiza. He really wasn't mixing well, and his choice of songs wasn't indicative of the millions of great tunes he owns. For someone who has the access to amazing unreleased songs, he doesn't have to play Pearl Jam's "Can't find a better man" in the middle of a trance set. (and one would expect him to be awesome in Ibiza) Why sit in traffic on the LIE to go all the way to the Hamptons to see him?
  18. Mr C was quite boring. But, If you stayed late enough for Joe Bond, he played a much better and more interesting set. The crowd was harmless. They weren't enthusiastic like at Twilo, but they weren't touchy-feely jerks like at Exit or Sound Factory. The vibe wasn't bad, it was just neutral. Props to Dave Sigmund, whose friends and DJs I had the pleasure of meeting in the area behind the DJ booth. We had a great time waiting for Joe to go on, and met some really friendly and musically knowledgeable people. And if you are looking for an alternative to Twilo (which has become a scary place to be, because of random drug searches and too many people),go out on Thursday night to Liquids, and Saturday to Limelight...and take friday off!
