  2. damn, my secret weapon is now in the hands of a maniac. Lord have mercy on us all
  3. wow, deja-vu last month Carl Cox = No Line / No Crowd / No Posers Now hush already.
  4. Hey... It's a remix of a 70's disco track called Popcorn by EPO. There are six remixes on a double vinyl pack (which I own and love dearly). Remixers includ DJ Housepunk, Axel Konrad, and the best of the bunch: Tomcraft. I picked it up in the middle of the summer so I doubt the record is available anymore... but if it's getting radio play it might come around again.
  5. I think there's another point to be made here. Nowadays most of our cultural influence comes from the media, and percentage wise, the majority of the media we are exposed to on a day to day basis is advertising. The advertising field is by necessity a young one filled with people who are generally hipper than you average banker. I think what we are seeing is an advertising industry that is spending their weekend knee-deep in e-puddles bugging out to their favorite dj's. This is bound to come out in their work. As the club generation ages and moves into controlling positions in industry we are going to see more and more of this. I think it's more a changing of the landscape rather than the mainstreaming of dance culture. And fear not - there's still hope. When rock and roll ruled, the underground still lived on and spawned punk, and new wave, and as all these grew into pop culture there was always an underground remaining - ready to spit out the next sound that the masses weren't ready for... or perhaps I'm just pontificating. whatever... fuck the mainstream - zombie nation was never 'underground' to begin with.
  6. oh, the tough life of an internet millionare.
  7. come by the Social Thursday... we'll make Vince get you drunk.
  8. Okay, I'm from Toronto, so here's the l/d. Clubs worth checking out Rave Style Clubs (ala Twilo) System Sound Bar - 119 Peter St. Turbo - Adelaide St. Turbo hosts Lifeforce Fridays with house upstairs and Jungle supplied by the Vinyl Syndicate downstairs. Saturdays is straight up house. Club is very young, and very drug. The crowd from System moved there when lifeforce bought the place 8 months ago. System has Breathe on Fridays which is a pretty progressive night - great talent moves through there. Dunno what's up with System Saturdays. There's also Techno in the back room by Paul Walker (who's played Centro Fly with Terry Mullan). Both these clubs have guest headliners just about every weekend night... System is my pick for the cooler place to hang out Turbo is a little more popular but the crowd and sound system are hurting. Say hi to Orin for me if you go (tall bald black man with a goatee who runs the place). Guvernment is Toronto's biggest glam club. Saturdays are huge, and very trancy, very NY big club feel to it. Music is by Mark Oliver - one of the originators of Toronto's rave scene. He plays a maration 8+ hour set that spans the genres. Skip the Limelight and Whiskey Saigon - cheese. If you're into house/rnb there's a lot of upscale places that are predominantly gino clubs like fluid, money, life, the list of monikers goes on. Toronto's Clubland is impressive. There's probably 15-20 clubs in a three block radius from the corner of Richmond and Peter. An absolute must - if you're there on Thursday night is Mad Bar. This is on the north side of Adelaide St. between Duncan and Simcoe. It's a super fat House party where the likes of Sneak have been know to drop in a spin a set. It's a very late crowd and things won't jump till 1. Things to know - Almost all bars are 19+ (except System and Turbo which have a wristband policy). Last Call is at 2 and not many places stay open much later than that. System, Turbo, and Guv will be open all night on a weekend (but mayble only till like 6 or 7). Oh, almost forgot, if you like Garage - there's almost always something going on at Roxy Blu.... Check out Phat Black Pussycat. Places to find info about what's on- Free Weeklies (look for boxes on the stree): Now Magazine Eye Magazine Also just about urban fashion store on Queen street. Finally - there will certainly be a big rave on Saturday - there's one EVERY Saturday in Toronto. Toronto raves are true. Go if you can. Take a long look around the tribe message board to get a feel for what's happening: www.tribe.ca have fun! I miss home. d
  9. s'alright - but you missed a true party. We go the last Saturday of each month - but since the next last Saturday is December 30 and a bunch of us are out of town... Jan 27 is the next one. I'm gonna try to hit one of your Wednesdays, so I'm sure we'll meet before then.
  10. oh, and don't forget the ever usefull "locked groove" record - my personal favorite.
  11. Since he's playing Toronto on the 15th, I'm gonna guess that 16th is the right date.
  12. Just to keep you all sweatin a bit http://209.237.157.45/ram/62324.RAM
  13. everybody wants my secret weapons. I'll give one up - the Good Life rmx is on a record called Clut Cutz Vol. 1 - no artist or label (well, there might be a label, I'll have to check). Y'all gonna hafta sweat a little before I let out the 411 on Rock the Casbah.
  14. Sutton Place is a walk or quick cab ride from Clubland. Downtown T.O. is pretty compact... Unless you go to the Guvernment which is at the base of Jarvis St. and not near anything else at all. I forgot to mention though, that the soundsystem at the Guvernment is by Phazon, the same lovely people who keep Twilo in beats. Oh damn, almost forgot, I'm not sure of the current location, but if you can find where the "Deep Red" party is going on now (every friday) you'll be in for a treat. Sweet tech-house. There's a million smaller venues that are worth checking out - Film cafe, Nasa, Space, the list goes on and on and on, and almost all of them still in that 3 (maybe 4) block radius. Here's the promoter's forum from the tribe board: http://216.234.183.125/ubbcgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Upcoming+Events&number=8&DaysPrune=10&LastLogin=
  15. Scarpini! Our favorite labia lover. Missed you at the lounge guy. next time.
  16. I'm fucking sick of these cheesy-ass little NY promoters who bill big names knowing they'll never fucking be there. If people ask what's wrong with Raves in NY - there's the source of the problem. If respectable people were involved in the production of the events, the overall quality of the scene might stand a chance of improving. I'm sick of this shit. To think I almost skipped Jeff Mills to see Jon the Dentist. pathetic
  17. unless things change, the next big night should be Jan 27, 2K1 long time to wait
  18. does anyone know if Jon the Dentist actually made it to the Butterball? hmmm?
  19. the downstairs is open for lounging/drinking too but it was empty Saturday - the party was upstairs in full effect. Wow, what a night. All the dj's turned out in good form. I've never seen that place so busy all night. Never so many bodies moving. Good time were had by all. I couldn't have asked for a better night. Many thanks for everyone who came and waited for me to come on. peace d
  20. Myrl, It's a lounge space. Lots of red lights, velvet couches and leopard print. It's not over the top at all, pretty caj. Dress to dance with the honies - whoop! Can't wait to see everyone there. d
  21. 'sup yall. Everything's go for the lep. I'll be on around 2 and closing it out. Beats will be fat all night long though. Look for the yello ecko hat, that'll be me. peace d
  22. as per the conversations at the club... Mills way definitely way heavy handed in his mixing. Selection was on, so that at least made up for it. great times
  23. Aight kiddies, I'm outta here. See y'all tomorrow night.
