  1. Hi friends: Our first party at Gemini Lounge last Wednesday was a blast (despite the rainy weather)--it went so well that they've asked us to do it one more time! So lace up your dancing shoes, because we're taking over again. This time, we'll be starting the festivities at 9 PM for those of you who actually have real jobs to wake up for in the morning. Also, we didn't see enough ladies out there last time, so they're letting ladies in for FREE before 10 PM. Jeff Gomez and David Christopher of HeadRush Music will be returning to prescribe a healthy dose of deep, funky house and trance. Miss Casey Lewis (D7 Management, NYC) will also be making a special guest appearance to rock the place with her funky house. SHE IS AMAZING. Cover charge is $5 if you mention Clubplanet.com. (Again, ladies get in FREE before 10 PM.) For more info, visit http://www.headrushmusic.com. 21 and older only--please remember to bring ID. >>GEMINI LOUNGE INFO: Gemini Lounge is located at 221 2nd Avenue between 13th and 14th St. Tel: (212) 254-5260; L, N, R, 4, 5, 6 to 14th St.-Union Sq. 2. My friends and I split a $60 bottle of the Tokyo stuff last week. It rocked us just as well as the American shit, but it did leave me feeling remarkably drained and lifeless the next day--I never had that problem with the American brand. TIP: Add vanilla extract when cooking. Also, if you have the time, don't cook it--just leave it out overnight.
  3. 8. Hey party people: I'm throwing a party at Gemini Lounge next Wednesday, November 29, from 10 PM to 4 AM, and you're all invited. The music will be deep, sexy house and trance--Clubplanet's own DJ Parish will be laying down beats, as well as some other killer DJs. It will be a very cool scene, without all of the mainstream electronica that's been filling the clubs and airwaves lately. Lots of cool people who are down with the scene. You can even bring lightsticks, if you so desire.(It's 21 and over, so bring your IDs--fake ones if you got 'em.) If you mention Clubplanet.com at the door, you'll get in for $5 instead of $10. For more info, check out http://www.headrushmusic.com. I hope to get to meet some of you! 9. I think that right after a long night of partying, nothing beats bananas for ease of eating, nutrition, and kindness to your stomach. And if your mouth isn't too dry, energy bars like Clif Bars or GeniSoy are good to eat, too. For later in the day, after I've had a little sleep but still don't have much of an appetite, I find that fast food is the easiest thing to get down--especially McDonald's hamburgers. Otherwise, I never touch the shit. The worst post-party eating story is when my friends and I went to a diner after Whistle 2 and all ordered huge breakfast meals with omelettes and all the sides...and no one could eat anything. Except for my friend Chris, who was smart enough to toke up before eating. The moral of the story is, pot is the only drug that you can always count on. Peace, David Christopher HeadRush Music
  10. I used to think the same think about DJs before I started spinning: "Where's the talent in playing other people's music?" I had been producing for a while, so I had developed a bit of a snobby opinion. But then when I started going out to parties, I found myself so incredibly moved by some of the DJs that I heard. I wanted to be able to create that feeling for other people. So, I started to learn how to spin in addition to my production work, and I found that they were excellent complements to each other. Spinning parties and exposing myself to new music had a tremendous impact on the quality of my production--I learned how to improve the structure of my songs and how to create songs that really moved people. I think that most people who DJ do it because they love it, not because they think it's the easy way out. Believe me, making money as a DJ is just as difficult as making money as a producer. And as long as people are happy doing what they're doing, why shit on their parade? Peace, David Christopher HeadRush Music
  11. Wow...I don't remember Twilo being this pitiful. I want to see everybody there on November 11 for Timo Maas and Max Graham--let's show them how it's really done! Peace, DJ David Christopher HeadRush Music
  12. I got 4100, too. Call me Rain Man, I guess... --DJ David Christopher
  13. When I was at 1015 out in San Fran, my friend and I couldn't find any pills, so we downed 5 or 6 Red Bulls in a row. You wouldn't believe it, but we felt pretty fucked up--almost like we were rolling. We called it "liquid cocaine." The best part is, about an hour later, we ended up finding some pills. Let me tell you, taking E when you're already on a Red Bull high is no joke. I was still rolling when I got on the plane to go home the next day. --DJ David Christopher
  14. "Battersea how it is..." Yeah, I'm going to this. Though I don't feel BT as much as I used to, I still hear that his live show is amazing. Love Hooverphonic as well. Just found out that it was their song that was on that VW commercial a while back. --DJ David Christopher
  15. I prefer songs that straddle the border between hard house and trance--uptempo and trippy, but not cheesily uplifting and sparkly (although there are certainly times and places for that kind of music). I would strongly recommend that you pick up Scott Henry's new mix CD, which nicely showcases songs that fit right in between the hard house and trance genres. I would also recommend nearly every track put out by Timo Maas, and most of the tracks put out or remixed by Mauro Picotto. Check out Winx's "Don't Laugh". If you want to learn more about the trance side of things, I would strongly recommend that you check out Paul Oakenfold's "Tranceport" if you haven't already--it's an amazing primer on the world of trance. Peace, DJ David Christopher
  16. Thanks for the post! I'll be giving Dino a call. --DJ David Christopher
  17. My friend was taken to a back room by some of the promoter's lackeys because he LOOKED like an Ecstasy dealer. He didn't have any E, but he did have some K for personal use. They took his K, ALL of his money, and kicked him out. Dirty promoter...
  18. Zombie Nation blew my mind when I first heard it at Exit whilst rolling my head off. Since then, though, I hear it all the time on WLIR, which just kinda made the song shitty for me. --DJ David Christopher
  19. Agreed--TN America surprised me with its lack of cheese. I bought the green Trance Nation (#2?) a while back, which I liked a lot, but which was still cheesy and not mixed incredibly well. (Although at the time, it didn't seem as cheesy as it does now--I guess it's cause everything sounds like that now.) Also check out Christopher Lawrence--Empire, Tranceport III, Micro Tech-Mix 2000.
  20. Yeah, Boo was rough last year cause of the weather, late starts, DJ cancellations, etc. Once it got started though, it was a great time. This year looks even better. Sandra Collins was excellent at Roseland (?) with Oakey and Max Graham a couple of months ago.
  21. I really enjoy Exit. It's got great sound, lighting, and variety (i.e., lots of different rooms throughout the place). Plus, rooftop! No lines in the bathrooms, either. Only downside was that I got $150 worth of pills confiscated--but managed to hook my friends up before that. Sound Factory can get very packed--all those shirtless muscleheads take up a lot of room, I guess. The sound was booming, but it left my ears ringing for a long time. Clubs like Twilo and Exit have a "cleaner" sound system--it doesn't leave you with ringing ears (unless you stick your head in the subwoofer). Peace, David Christopher
  22. I agree--Twilo isn't what it used to be for me. I used to worship the place--that was when Sasha and Digweed weren't popular yet and there was actually room to dance. The scene there has gotten a bit iller--used to be that I could leave my backpack laying somewhere and it would be there three hours later. Shit, I can't even bring a backpack in, anymore. Still, Twilo has an amazing sound and lighting system. Probably the best lighting I've ever seen. I love Exit, as well--the sheer size is amazing. Centro-Fly is also another dope spot. --David Christopher
  23. I'm looking to network with trance/progressive house DJs/producers in Manhattan and Queens. Would like to exchange tips, thoughts, ideas, etc. Perhaps some co-production work. I am also looking into starting a weekly or monthly party--I need solid, ambitious, talented, hardworking partners. If you have skills and a true love for the scene, contact me. Peace, David Christopher
