  1. Stop by Level and see the sign! I also thought WTF when I saw that over the weekend I think it's a fundraising party for her campaign for Governor.
  2. I do remember seeing something about this on the marquee... http://www.wjla.com/news/showstory.hrb?f=n&s=48603&f1=nat Anyone going?
  3. Before... as the last live act, they were on before Marc et Claude, who was followed by Bill Hamel then BT. I believe BT was the closer for the night.
  4. If anyone cares about what went on down there last weekend... http://bbs.clubplanet.com/showthread.php?threadid=105909 by the way, for those who don't already know, the only dress code I came across was for Space on Saturdays (or at least the afterhours on Sunday mornings): no sneakers, hats, shorts, or tank tops. It looked like the rules are sometimes relaxed a little for the ladies.
  5. If anyone cares... hopefully I won't sound too much like a typical tourist... It was expensive and tiring, but fun! Wednesday: Got off the plane, picked up the rental car, checked into the hotel, went to Space. I thought that Edgar V's tunes were a little old, but the crowd was loving it. Then Taucher came on and he was great. It's a riot watching him in the booth. He sure played harder stuff than the last time I saw him, which was May 2001 at Webster Hall, New York (those who know NYC clubs know that WH isn't the best of places). I wanted to stay til the end and hear a little bit of Deep Dish, but I wanted to see other places as well, and wasn't sure if I would be able to come back later in the weekend. Next stop was Level. I saw only Parks & Wilson listed on the sign on top, but since I was driving at the time, I probably didn't see the other names mentioned. I later read posts that showed other DJ's were on the lineup as well. Anyways, I got there at 3:30 am, and was surprised to see how empty the place was. Who was it spinning at the end? I thought he churned out the tunes quite well. It seemed like he was putting on a little party for the people in the lounge area in front of the stage/booth. I was thinking of checking out Danny Howells at Crobar, but it was getting a little late to do so. Thursday: I came across a flyer for the free 93.1 party at Bongo's, so I went to check that out. Very nice view of the water, where there was at least 4 different sets of fireworks going off. For those who didn't see the flyer or hear the radio ads, these were the acts: Live - Fiori, a male local artist (sorry I forget the name), Rockell, Amber, Iio; DJ sets - Marc et Claude, Bill Hamel, BT. Earlier in the night, it looked like 93.1 DJ's (I forget the names) spun between live acts. It's too bad I had to leave at 3 am, right when BT came on. Marc et Claude's anthem trance is more my style, but I really liked Hamel's set that followed. Too bad there was a power outage that interrupted the set. Also unfortunate how the records skipped so often for all of the DJ's. $3 Coronas (during 11 pm - 1 am) were nice. $6 waters were not. With all due respect, the glowstickers should come to NYC to see how it's done. Friday: I didn't see anything of interest to me, and had to be somewhere on Saturday morning, so I rested. Saturday/Sunday: As I drove into the area from Fort Lauderdale, a friend from Boston riding with me commented on how there were so many beautiful women on the streets. First stop was Crobar, where David Waxman had things going quite nicely. I came out to check out Level - while I was there, Acosta (or whoever it was spinning at the time) played The Truth and Awakenings. Impressive light show, with some stuff I didn't see on Wednesday. Quite a good vibe, but I saw quite a bit of empty space on the main floor. Because a friend (a different one) liked the chicks at Crobar better, and because we had to meet up with some people, we went back to Crobar - allowing re-entry is a very good thing IMO. Things were great there from 5 to 6 am, but since the crowd was dying, we headed to Space. Has anyone had problems getting in with Stefan(?) at the door? Dang, I waited an hour and a half, mostly near the front, to get in, cuz I wasn't fortunate to have any ladies with me. He finally let me and 3 others in at 7:50 am when we were the only ones left. At least I paid $20 for cover, instead of the advertised $30. When I entered, the main floor was so friggin' dark! So that must be why I saw so many people seem stunned when they walked out of the club and into the sunlight. On to the patio, where one could enjoy the sunlight. I had lots of fun there and stayed til closing at 1:55 pm. I was tired, but I was amazed at how I never felt sleepy. Maybe it had to do with the combination of beats and eye candy. Rain fell a few times, but when it did, it felt good to be right under the rain, to cool off. The nitro jets also gave great relief from the weather. There was all this red stuff on my shoes afterwards, but no big deal. Some food would've been nice during those hours. Maybe I should have been tried getting a banana from the DJ, like some others did. Speaking of DJ... I thought Ivano Bellini did a good job, but I see that some on this board don't quite agree about his performances in general. Maybe I'd need to hear him a few more times to get sick of him. For those who have been to Exit in NYC, and read the New York board, is he Miami's version of Tony Draper?
  6. I believe it was Iio - one guy on keyboards and the female singer They did 3-4 songs before doing "Rapture", both original and remix (not Riva [which was played a jillion times on 93.1 over the weekend], not Armin van Buuren, not Deep Dish, but what sounded like Creamer + Stephane K)
  7. Most of those kids were probably turned away, as the door people said it was 18+ (now why didn't the flyer or the radio ad say that?) Funny cuz I saw some parents bringing really young kids there BT came on at 3 am... if only you had known Too bad I had to leave when he started
  8. Did anyone go to the 93.1 party on July 4? I don't see see any reviews. I thought it was fun, especially for free... well, before parking (hmm... I must be from NYC ) and over-priced water I'll give my out-of-towner review of this and other places when I have the chance. I was thinking about bringing my CP t-shirt, but wearing something with "I (heart) NY" in Miami didn't seem quite right.
  9. I came in at around 3:30 am, and the place was empty! The tunes were nice though. I also stopped by on Saturday to check out Acosta at around that time (before a friend of mine from Boston liked the chicks at Crobar better, and wanted to go back there ), and the crowd also seemed to be dying down by 4:30 am. Is it usually like that there?
  10. the d2k people have started an annual tradition of taking a break in July, just because they feel they need it Don't worry, they'll be back in full force in August!

    Dress codes?

Since I'm an out-of-towner, I must ask... Are there any clubs in Miami that have a dress code of note? I'm coming in this weekend, hoping to hit up Space and Crobar. Any other places with similar music and crowd? Thanks!
  12. It's probably too late to ask for catching Dirty Vegas (and Louie Devito ), but maybe for the next show... what do they do there when the weather is bad? Is the show taken indoors? To the atrium? Or somewhere else? Or does the show just get cancelled?
  13. Unbelieveable... the Cinderella story continues as they beat Spain, 5-3 in penalty kicks (after a 0-0 tie) to make the semis. Too bad I had to sleep and didn't tape this one http://www.msnbc.com/news/770817.asp
  14. I think it starts at 11 pm (on Fridays) Last night, a set from Oakenfold was on afterwards
  15. Now available on DJMixes2k http://d2k.dedserver.org Sounding quite cool!
  16. Was it packed like sardines, like it was at Exit (and pretty much each of the last 993 times he's been in NYC)? Looks like either PVD didn't have time to change his clothes from Exit, or didn't pack enough.
  17. I see that they have this "surprise guest DJ" thing going... who have they had? Any inside info on upcoming DJ's?
  18. Imagine a World Cup with no European countries in the final four... it could happen if Brazil, Senegal, USA, and Korea all win!
  19. It's cool that PVD is going around to different places, but isn't Roxy smaller than both Exit and Sound Factory? Dang, it's gonna be packed beyond belief, probably violating fire codes a couple times over. I'm guessing that after a certain time, people won't be let in until others come out. That would allow people to relive some of the Twilo experience
  20. Interesting how that has changed from "PVD... PVD"
  21. I'm gonna be in Miami that night... does anyone know of anything good going on there then? How about on the following Saturday (July 6)?
  22. Great saves were made on both sides And it is done! Korea wins, and US joins it in the 2nd round!
  23. Korea (and US) saved by the post in the 89th minute!
  24. Being down 3-1 to Poland, they can still advance if Korea can hold on to their 1-0 lead to beat Portugal C'mon Korea!
