  1. According to http://www.arminvanbuuren.com/gigs.html he's scheduled for a 6-hour set, I guess from open to close (though 5 am is a little early for closing for Roxy) Can anyone confirm if he's truly going to do that?
  2. that sucks... did you use earplugs for musicians or just the kind you get in drug stores?
  3. Nominee for party of the year! Well, I don't know about that, but it was great. The place was packed, but it was the least crowded PVD night I've been to in NYC. At least I felt like I had more space on the floor than usual. Great crowd, great vibe that felt a little intimate. As for the music, I thought the mixing was a little off a few times, and a handful of tracks didn't have their usual energy (mostly between 12:30 and 1), but with that said, I was so lost in the music. I love his stuff, but I do wish he played more stuff that he didn't play at Roxy, and more new stuff in general. It would be interesting to see him do a night where he played all tracks that no one knew, or at least none of the usual anthems. I'm sure he could do it. His radio show is a little like that. PVD signed like a million autographs - it was great that he did that, and that the security let him do that. Especially due to the waits for my coat and for the subway, this will be me at work
  4. First of Johan Gielen, then followed by Blank & Jones For this month at http://www.eurodancehits.com/video/videomonth.html
  5. What's the catch? How crowded is that going to get? So he's going to fly back to NYC after flying out to Dallas today? (It's on the way back to Berlin, so I guess it's not too bad) And for which charity?
  6. http://www.paulvandyk.de/lowres/service_news.asp go down almost to the bottom He wants to do a little tour of the different places in NYC. Where else could he do it, that has enough main floor space (look at Sound Factory - all those rooms with the same music, but everyone wanted to be on the main floor and actually see PVD) and he hasn't played at yet? I think Arc (on a Saturday) would be interesting, but it's probably a bit too small. Same for Limelight if the new one is anything like the old one. Does anyone know if the new Crobar is a viable option, if it does indeed ever open? Edit: I just saw the post about Arc on Monday. For NYC, maybe he needs to do "unannounced" gigs from now on.
  7. linabina, you should have seen previous PVD nights, when and where the place was even more crowded everywhere.
  8. 3-4 times in the last 3 months? in NYC? His last time here was Exit, June 14 and the time before that was Sound Factory, March 29 and the time before that was Twilo, almost a year prior Check this http://www.paulvandyk.de/lowres/info.asp?page=2 For a quick search of NYC gigs in 2002, press Ctrl+F, type "New York", then press ENTER as many times as you can
  9. Wait in line felt like at least half an hour I was there 2-4 am, and there were lots of peeps but it wasn't ridiculously packed Silly question: When and which room did Oliver Lieb play? I saw Cassius and co., but don't think I saw Lieb.
  10. I think Luis Diaz is a lot better as PVD's opener than when he's the feature DJ (though I've heard him as such only once, and that was at Limelight). He's been the opener for PVD in NYC for as long as I can remember. Doesn't he also open for PVD at the WMC? Come early, spend less time in line, enjoy the time when there's actually space to move around, get the most out of your $50 and enjoy both DJ's!
  11. Funny I didn't think of this before... if they do change the name to Republic, won't people confuse it with that restaurant in Union Square? Or does that restaurant have something going on with the club?
  12. Where were all of you when DaVe was doing meetups on Mondays at the Q-Lounge?
  13. Which clubs in NYC are good for the 30+ (or late 20s and up) crowd? A friend of mine who is in that age group is tired of seeing teenyboppers at places she's been to.
  14. Try 7th Ave where there are meters - they're free on weekends. Also 15-18 St's between 8th and 7th Aves You could also try between 9th and 10th Aves on 20-22 St's. Read the signs carefully though. Look for the streets that have signs with street cleaning schedules. The ones that say "No Parking Mon - Fri 8-6" are usually ok too. If you see "Night Parking Regulation", don't park there! If you want indoor parking, there's one underneath the old Port Authority building (which is now an office building), which is across the street from Chelsea Market on one side, and across from the Covenent House on another side - it's between 9th and 8th Aves (closer to 9th), with access on both 15 and 16 St's. I'm not sure what they charge for weekend parking. They do have good Early Bird rates during regular work hours, if that tells anything. There should be plenty of other parking lots around there, but I'm not sure where they are.
  15. It's the promoter (four letters, begins with M - the ones who bring you all those cheaper events at Arc) who set the price It sucks that the price changed so suddenly, but they did warn that the price would go up to $50 at some point. If you can, go to the Roxy any weekday between 11 am and 6 pm, and save the surcharge. I think they also sell tix during regular club (or skating) hours, so if you go to Cox, I guess you can also buy PVD tix while there as well. I'll be chugging Red Bulls before going to the club. I hope I can go 8 hours without drinking anything (not even water), like I did when I saw him in Ibiza. btw, When Oakie played at the World, wasn't the price for that something like $65? I remember the price for Sasha + Digweed for Delta Heavy (also at World) was up there as well.
  16. If you like trance, you'll love Armin Here's where you can hear his stuff http://www.djmixes2k.com/index2.php (scroll down about halfway) http://www.clubglow.com (go to the audio section) He also has a radio show Thursdays 2-4 pm EST on http://www.id-t.com , but I can never connect - too many other listeners
  17. If you haven't seen him before, then yes, go for it Get rested so to get there early (so you're waiting in line for 2 hours instead of 3 ) and stay til the end (usually 8:30 - 9 am).
  18. http://www.madeevents.com/110102.php Tickets available on (online) http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=nyc&query=detail&event=374380 (geez, $40 tix are gone already?! was there any warning about this?) (in person) Satellite Records and probably also Roxy box office
  19. Now we all know about Days Gone By... But how the latest one, that sounds dreamy and with female vocals ? Does anyone know the name and artist of this one? It's kinda stuck in my head now.
  20. Add another to the count of people who enjoyed Sasha. Seemed like the many people (taking up maybe half the floor) left at the end did as well. I thought what Jimmy van M played was boring until the last hour. However, for one of the earlier posts, I think it's like apples and oranges to compare his set to what he played at Arc, because over there he's pretty much the feature DJ (tag-teaming with Burridge, right?) and hence playing peak time tunes. On an unrelated note, I think it would be cool to see and hear Digweed (either solo or with Sasha) at Roxy.
  21. I don't think those are actual tickets per se. I believe you can pay the advanced tix price at the door with them. For a sure thing, go to one of the places and put down the cash. I'm just curious: Has anyone bought tix for either of these events at a Ticketmaster booth?
  22. Go to the Roxy between noon and 5 pm, on weekdays at least Ring the doorbell to be let in, and go to the cashier's window. You could also try Satellite Records, but if they do have them, there will be a $1 surcharge
  23. I think they've got limited server space and bandwidth, and new sets coming in all the time. (think of what it's like to be in europe, and able to hear and record all this stuff on the radio) Once sets are offline, you'll have to look elsewhere, like tranceaddict or whatever file-sharing sites are still around like kazaa, etc. Maybe someone on the d2k forum can point you in the right direction.
  24. 'Twas great! I just couldn't stop dancing to Parks & Wilson (though I did recognize most of the tracks), and before that, the hour of the Low End Specialists that I caught The little time I spent downstairs was quite nice too, with I believe, Lexicon Ave. Sucks that I had to leave at 4 am. Need to work and save energy for Sasha. Can't wait til summer when I just have to survive through half a day at work.
  25. Find a parking lot or garage. I believe there are many around there. It might cost a bit, but much less than towing or tickets. Actually, Chelsea has many spots where you can park for free, especially on the weekends. Look for the streets with alternate side cleaning rules (you have until 8:30 am on the side being cleaned on Fri, and all weekend [if you're really lucky] on the other side), or the "No Parking Mon-Fri 8-6" (how likely will Cox go past 8 am on a weekday?) signs. Try between 8th and 7th Aves, which is just outside the projects. Also, the east side of 7th Ave with the meters is free from 7 pm to 9 am. I do it all the time. But do at your own risk - I take no responsibility for whatever happens to you and your car/
