  1. Here's what's in store for the 27th... Galen Gentry: 7:30 - 8:15 Galen vs. Brickhouse: 8:15 - 9:00 JayP - 9:00 - 10:30 Mike Consentino (Brooklynkid) 10:30 - 12:00 Brickhouse 12:00 - 1:30 Guests: Michael Consentino [Metromixradio.com] - Michael Consentino, also known as Brooklynkid on the boards, has been purveying his distinct cross-genre blend of tribal, trance, techno, and breaks for well over a decade. For tonight's soiree, he will be hammering out dark progressive breaks to please the ears and blow your mind. Galen Gentry [spinCycle] - Galen can usually be heard at Negril Village, spinning techy house at SpinCycle. For tonight's event, Galen will be making a departure from the usual and go back to his roots, playing broken beat and downtempo. Additionally, he will be doing a tag team set with Brickhouse that will focus on progressive and tech breaks. Residents: Joe Pirrotta - After devistating the crowd at the Detached debut, Joe (aka JayP) is back once again to lay down his driving mash-up of nu skool, progressive, and UK funky breaks. Brickhouse - Dan "Brickhouse" McAvoy will be starting the evening in a tag-team battle with Galen Gentry, and finishing up the evening with more dark breaks to get your week started right. Another one not to miss! And I KNOW I'll see you slackers out there who couldn't make it out last time (that includes YOU JoeG)!
  2. Don't read much anymore, but here's the ones that stick out in my head.... Invisible Man (Ellison) Sound and the Fury Catch-22 Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (about a million times better than the movie that was Blade Runner) Train to Pakistan The Stand (unabridged) Energy Flash (good book on electronic music + rave culture) Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot BTW, Flowers for Algernon was a short story, not a book....
  3. Another scenario: There were some interlopers in the fight, maybe it was one of them, so they released the initial suspects.... Besides, they can D/P the case now and still decide to prosecute them later if evidence mounts against them....
  4. Which version is on the pink vinyl?
  5. Good list.....about half of those are in my next 10....
  6. Suprised nobody's mentioned him yet, but I nominate Smokesum...
  7. Not sure I agree with most of those (especially 1, 2, and 4), but here's mine (in no particular order...) Dr. Strangelove Battleship Potemkin Cinema Paradiso Life is Beautiful Usual Suspects Man Bites Dog The Seventh Seal Before the Rain Reservoir Dogs Casablanca
  8. I just want to give a huge thank you to all of you who showed up last night to our initial Detached party. Last night was a huge success, and with all of your help, we will now be a weekly. We have huge things planned from the future, and we plan on bringing in some of the top local and international talent of these genres in the future. It was really great seeing all of you. I almost felt like it was the 'good old days' where we were all able to get together, socialize, and listen to some slamming music. Hopefully we can keep this awesome vibe going and keep things getting better and bigger. Joe, Kris, Lou, and Ken - You guys all kicked ass....I seriously loved the sets, and I'm sure other people would echo my sentiments.... We'll be starting as a full time weekly on the 27th. I can't give too many details yet, but at least one of our special guests will be Mike Consentino, aka Brooklynkid, playing a set of progressive breaks. Once again, this will not be one to miss. Much love and respect to everyone who turned out tonight. I hope to see all of you again in the very near future! - Dan "Brickhouse"
  9. Not sure what it'll be yet, but my guess is it'll be something that came out originally sometime between 1989 and 1992 and is getting a remix work by some famous DJ. Seems like quite a few of those have been getting big, and sometimes people aren't even catching that it's a remix of a UK Ardcore track under some other dipshit's name. About 3 or 4 years ago, it was Miss Jane doing it's a Fine Day, lately there's been the Gypsy Woman and LFO mixes, something similar along those lines this year, only with a harder edge... How the fuck am I supposed to know what'll be the summer anthem now (early April) though? Hell, not the stuff that debuted at WMC.....by the time mid-may rolls around, you guys will be arguing that that shit is tired and therefore can't really be the anthem. That's like asking me who's going to win the world series, only with more possible answers. Whatever....
  10. My guess is that everyone digging on the Asians at Exit really don't remember Twilo, which was also about 40% Asian except at the huge events. Or maybe nobody remembers the Great Wall back there...
  11. Umm.......FOOTBALL! (American football for you Euros who think soccer is football...) Most sports are boring unless you really know the players and are into the strategy. For instance, people are constantly moving in soccer, but it bores the hell out of most Americans because there aren't enough scoring opportunities. I could go on for just about any sport like that (except maybe basketball or indoor lacrosse, both of which are pretty damn exciting even if it's your first time watching) As for most boring, I'd say that cricket, golf, curling, any individual sport (gymnastics, figure skating, etc), and distance racing are all pretty damn boring to watch. But the one that really takes the cake is Yachting. I have no clue how anyone can watch it and find it exciting....
  12. Um, he's a big kid, and would be the first Korean in the NBA... http://joongangdaily.joins.com/200302/06/200302060126389709900091009101.html
  13. Somehow I missed this when it happened a couple weeks ago....looks like at least 1 more year of Knick suckage.... http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/0405nbashort0405.html Knicks draft pick OKs 2-year European deal Associated Press Apr. 5, 2003 12:00 AM NEW YORK - New York Knicks draft choice Milos Vujanic has agreed to a two-year contract with a top European team, agent Goran Ristanovic told the New York Post. "Milos will play two years on a famous European club," Ristanovic said Thursday. "We know he can play in the NBA, but Milos is thinking, and I am too, his basketball career goes step by step. First step is Europe, next step New York." The 22-year-old Vujanic, a Yugoslav point guard selected in the second round last year, is averaging 25 points this season for the Yugoslav club team Partizann. Ristanovic said the European team, which he will not identify until Vujanic finishes the season in early June, will buy out the Partizann contract. Vujanic will make more than $1 million next season and will have an option to get out of the deal after one year, Ristanovic said. "After one year, maybe he will come to New York. Maybe one year, maybe two years," Ristanovic said. "If the player is real good, it doesn't matter. We want to say to New York fans and the Knicks that when he's 24 or 25, when he has some money in his pocket, he will come to the NBA. And I know he will play for New York." Knicks GM Scott Layden said: "We're not going to address it until after the season. We continue to have a good relationship with Milos."
  14. I guess I'll give myself a hell yeah! #2  Rock on Joe!
  15. I wanna see a few "hell yeah"'s Seriously, this should be the shit. If you're too lazy or busy to make it, you're really going to be missing out! If you have no clue what the hell I'm talking about, see this thread.
  16. Here's another similar one......a little more amusing and accurate though... http://www.smalltime.com/dictator.html
  17. This one was absurd and interesting to watch at the same time....kinda let you see that Tyson is really a kid at heart when he's not on the defensive. A little strange, I'll admit, but no comparisons to Jacko here.... http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/030409.html
  18. 700 or 800 people is still a pretty damn large venue....that's about the size of Centro-Fly. Not mega-club size, but no Filter 14 either (which holds closer to 100).... For a real cozy venue, I'd love to see Jazzanova, but usually they do places like Irving Plaza and shyte. If it's a weeknight, wouldn't mind seeing a DJ like Carl Cox at a medium-sized venue, but it would still probably be too packed to bear...
  19. Saw him a bunch of times in DC.....like Kraver said, he's alright but nothing too special. However, at least at his residencies, he does spin a lot more than trance (some breaks, tech house, etc). Kinda fun, but almost comes off more like drug music than anything else...
  20. It's been a damn long time since there's been 10 albums I don't own on 12" that I've been rocking at the same time.... Heck, I'm not sure there are even 10 top quality tracks I've heard come out this year yet.....Dec 2002 was super solid, but it's been pretty weak since then...
  21. What's the other info on this (i.e. when, how much $, etc)? I dig Storm, and wouldn't mind hearing Echostar spin...
  22. In case anyone missed the point, it was a rip on the people on the board who always jump to crazy conclusions just as much as it was a rip on Exit....
  23. Argh! I think Beverage has actually made fewer posts than the ones I've accidentally made on her computer.... To answer: DC++
  24. I was thinking the same thing. Biden is the devil incarnate. If he gets the Democratic nomination, I might have to go Green....
