  1. That really sucks. Good thing I didn't buy tickets for it. Wonder if they're offering refunds or not...
  2. For anyone who believes that trance is boring, I urge you to listen to some music by Infected Mushroom. For those of you who don't know, they are a trance duo from Isreal who spin Goa/Psy trance. I was fortunate enough to see them perform @ Avalon in May and the energy level in there was so intense and their skills were excellent. That was definately the best club experience I've had so far this year.
  3. Technics is definately the best choice as far as turntables go, however, I like Pioneer's cd players a bit better.
  4. Fuck Jessica Simpson - The real question here is why is that shit getting hyped up but not Tim Deluxe? He's gonna be spinning on the main floor tonight which will definately be worth checking out.
  5. Do they still have that guy at the door who looks like the Iron Shiek?
  6. Where did you hear that Tim Deluxe was opening for Baez? If you check on Spirit's website, http://www.spiritnewyork.com, you'll see that the night is featuring Tim Deluxe. It doesn't say anything about the Simpson/Baez crap. I really doubt they'd bring in an international superstar DJ like Deluxe and have him open up for Baez. I think he's gonna be the main feature, in which case there's no way that I'm gonna miss it.
  7. I think I'm gonna go check out Tim Deluxe @ Spirit.
  8. What new system? If they were smart, they'd get a Phazon like Twilo had.
  9. Well it isn't going to, so don't get your hopes up. If you had JP doing afterhours @ Spirit, it would only be a matter of time before some punk kid overdosed and the club got padlocked. Why do you think Avalon and Sprit do not run afterhours? The owners learned their lessons from what happened to SF, Twilo, etc.
  10. Great talent; lame crowd though
  11. If this event were occuring at someplace other than Crobar, I'd probably go. However, I can't stand the crowd there.
  12. The original SF was located where Spirit is now (27th st.) I believe it opened in 1989 and closed around 1995. It was then replaced by Twilo which was in the same space until 2001. After Twilo was shut down, it then became Spirit since late 2003.
  13. Ok, so you've been going out for 3 years and you think that SF is the epitome of a great clubbing experience? LOL!! Too bad you never even went there when it was good.
  14. I don't understand why the sound system in Crobar is so bad. Don't they have a Phazon system up in there? Maybe it has something to do w/ the acoustics or the system settings? Anyways, I agree that even though Crobar pulls in some big name talent, the crowd and vibe there completely sucks. I really wanted to see Sasha spin next Friday, but the fact that it's gonna be @ Crobar will probably deter me from going. Who wants to be surrounded by a bunch of people who would rather stand around and sip on Grey Goose and show off their new $150 jeans than tear it up on the dance floor?
  15. When I said that JP was done, I didn't mean that he wouldn't have a job spinning in NYC anymore; what I meant was that the days of him being a really big attraction are over. He will never be as popular as he was during his residency @ SF. Even during the later stages of his residency there, he wasn't the same DJ that he was in the years prior. Then, when he went over to Black, he wasn't exactly drawing record crowds there. So now he's going to Spirit. Ok, whatever. I would guess that 90% of the crowd @ Spirit will be going to experience the club itself, not to hear JP spin.
  16. Are you f'n kidding? JP doesn't even have a following outside of NY, NJ, and Southwestern CT, so how can you even consider him the best DJ in the US? NYC has some great local talent and brings in the best international talent on a regular basis; so if you think the scene is gonna take a hit due to lack of talent, you're dead wrong. The fact that the club scene in NY is slow right now is due to the fact that the feds cracked down on all the illegal shit that was going on which subsequently caused the closure of some of the best clubs around and changed the way that others do business. No one is gonna want JP to have a residency at their club, b/c he attracts a druggie crowd which will attract the attention of the cops. The last thing NYC needs is more clubs getting shut down. Gone are the days when blatant drug sales/use can occur freely in clubs. This is a new era. JP is done.
  17. LOL! Who is he kidding? JP is done in NYC.
  18. Donald Glaude is great! You won't be disappointed!
  19. Yeah, I don't know if they'll be selling tix at the door or not. The best bet would be to call and find out on the day of the event. If you really need to spend $75 to see him @ Cen. Park/Spirt, then I agree that it's a f'n rip off.
  20. I don't think that you need to buy the Central Park ticket in order to get into Spirit later, just to get the ticket for $25. You can probably go to Spirit only and see him, but it might be $35 instead of $25.
  21. I never met you before, but I think that I may have seen you there. I'm kinda new to this message board, so I didn't have any idea who you were at the time. If I see you over @ Avalon, I'll make sure to come by and say hello.
  22. 6/25 - Paul Van Dyk in Central Park and afterparty @ Spirit
